3 Outcomes s Outcomes with Helper Recovery can take place only within the context of relationships; it cannot occur in isolation. In her renewed connections with other people, the survivor re creates the psychological faculties that were damaged or deformed by the traumatic experience. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person's own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion. 5 The Spirit of MI Spirit of Partnership Your purpose is to understand the life before you, to see the world through this person's eyes rather than superimposing your own vision. The Spirit of MI Spirit of Evocation is the expert on the patient Bring out the wisdom that lies within the patient When the patient voices the need to change, it predicts that actual change will occur should be speaking more than half the time The Spirit of MI Spirit of Partnership Your purpose is to understand the life before you, to see the world through this person's eyes rather than superimposing your own vision. Partnership is done for and with the patient Directing helper tells patient what to do Following helper passively listens Guiding active listening, feedback, and expertise The Spirit of MI Spirit of Acceptance Feeling unacceptable immobilizes the patient Change requires someone to feel they are worthy of improvement Find the good in patient and their situation Self fulfilling prophecies Worth Empathy Autonomy The Spirit of MI Spirit of Partnership Your purpose is to understand the life before you, to see the world through this person's eyes rather than superimposing your own vision. Partnership is done for and with the patient Establishing shared aspirations and goals The Spirit of MI Spirit of Acceptance An ability to understand another s frame of reference and the conviction that it is worthwhile to do so.
