3 Blenheim s mission is to end dependency by enabling people to change. Along the way we also improve people s health and quality of life and reduce their involvement in risky behaviour and criminal activity. At Blenheim we now work with nearly 10,000 people a year, making a positive impact that not only improves the health of the individual we are working with, but also has a lasting positive impact on the wellbeing of their family and friends. People who use our services are not just people with drug and alcohol problems, they are partners, fathers, grandmothers, children, brothers, sisters, friends, work colleagues, and carers. Helping them beat dependency helps put the joy back in so many lives. The ripples of Blenheim s work with people spreads out across the London communities in which we provide services. 5 Blenheim s Recovery Outcomes Latest figures in the Outcome Report show we achieved the following outcomes in reliably reducing or ending dependency. Physical health had improved by 16% Quality of life had improved by 16% Over 54% of service users presenting with alcohol as a primary drug at the start of their treatment became abstinent or significantly reduced their alcohol within six months. Almost 50% of service users presenting with crack as a primary drug at the start of treatment were abstinent or had demonstrated a significant reduction in use after 6 months. Over 50% of service users presenting with illicit heroin as a primary drug at the start of treatment were abstinent or had demonstrated a significant reduction in use after 6 months. Over 75% of service users presenting with powdered cocaine at the start of treatment were abstinent or had demonstrated a significant reduction in use after 6 months.

6 Recovery & reintegration Blenheim is passionate about providing accessible and high quality support services for drug and alcohol users, families and carers. Our principles are informed by our aspiration to be the best and our belief in people s capacity to change. We provide tailored services to enable positive and meaningful change to support social reintegration. Our community services include: Day programmes Shared care Educational services Criminal justice services Outreach and engagement Direct access The Day Programme has been a life saver for Stimulant services me. The brilliant work of the service has put Alcohol services me on the right road to recovery. The service Needle exchange is safe and prepares me for the outside world. We helped nearly 10,000 people in 2012, an increase of 87% from Successful treatment of heroin or crack cocaine users cuts the level of crime by 50% (NTA, Why invest report Jan 2012).

7 Young People Our young people s services provide a safe environment which helps them to access support through activities, counselling, education and positive reintegration into their local communities. Many of our young people face drug and alcohol issues and are at risk of starting a pattern of offending behaviour. In helping to break this cycle our therapeutic interventions respond to the needs of young people. My keyworker is brilliant. I feel comfortable, listened to, supported, directed and never feel judged. Of those young people who accessed Blenheim s services in 2012, over 70% successfully completed treatment.

8 I have learned that there is more help out there than I had imagined. What I will do differently in the future is listen more carefully when someone is sharing their hurt with me and feel more confident about sharing mine. Families Our services provide direct access to a welcoming, friendly and professional environment for families, partners and friends who are affected by someone else s drug or alcohol use. Early intervention is central to our families services which aim to prevent problems arising and help to tackle issues (many of which are alcohol related) before they are embedded. 85% of families who accessed our services in 2012 showed a positive change in protective parenting, having a significant impact on their children s lives.

9 Education, Training & Employment (ETE) We are nationally recognised as a lead ETE provider for drug and alcohol users. Our award winning ETE services include: Specialist support from a designated ETE Co-ordinator Accredited courses Pre-employment programmes Challenging, rewarding and supported volunteering opportunities Peer mentors Key skills, soft skills and life skills workshop Return to work support Thanks to the training and Blenheim s support, I quickly learned to like, love and respect myself and others. I am a living example of how people can change. In Kensington & Chelsea in % of service users assessed for ETE moved into paid employment. 50% of offenders will not reoffend if in sustained paid employment, Iain Duncan-Smith, DWP.

10 Volunteer programme This has been a very significant year for Blenheim s volunteer programme. We have achieved recognition through a number of awards including the Mayor of London, Team London Award for Best Practice in Volunteer Management and the Lady Goodman Award for Good Practice. One of our volunteers also achieved the prestigious Adult Learner of the Year Award for London We currently involve over 150 volunteers across our services, this is a 100% increase from last year, over a 1/3 of our total workforce. Over 8,000 hours were completed by our volunteers in This experience has been extremely rewarding and enabled me to face fears, challenge myself and identify new strengths. I am now prepared for the wideworld.

11 I am valued and respected by the organisation and encouraged by my manager to reflect on areas that could be improved to put meaningful changes in place. Blenheim staff member Employee + service user engagement Positive engagement of our service users, our employees and volunteers is a priority for us. Each year we actively seek views, feedback and ideas from all 9,168 of our service users which shapes our strategic plans for the development of our recovery services. This year we conducted a staff survey and specific consultation exercise to inform our new 5 year business plan. In response to feedback from our staff, volunteers and other stakeholders we held an organisational event to celebrate the organisation s achievements and recognise team, service and individual contributions. 94% of Blenheim service users would recommend our services to other service users. 12 Training programme We have continued to be recognised as a lead training provider across the UK through our extensive range of courses and accredited programmes. Two key unique courses launched this year were the CMI accredited Management and Leadership Level 5 Diploma and the OCNLR accredited ITEP programme. A recent successful application to Skills for Care has officially launched our innovative partnership approach to delivering the Substance Misuse Awards and Certificates in partnership with WDP and Foundation 66. Excellent facilitators, the presentation was fun, informative, creative and inspiring. Project worker, SHP In 2012 over 500 people from across the UK benefited from our training programme.

13 Innovation & Influencing We were the first, and remain the only substance misuse organisation in the UK to regularly publish its treatment outcomes. We commission and publish annual independent reports on outcome effectiveness by John Marsden and Garry Stillwell from the Addictions Department at the Institute of Psychiatry. We welcome the clear policy shift to a recovery agenda in the 2010 Drug Strategy, its focus on reducing drug use and dependency and its increased focus on community reintegration and service user led provision. Our key role in the Drug, Alcohol and Justice Cross Party Parliamentary Group gives us the opportunity to raise issues and inform MP s, members of the House of Lords, senior civil servants and Government Ministers around health re-organisation, funding and future policy in relation to alcohol and drug misuse. Blenheim continues to be at the heart of the drug and alcohol sector s work to influence the political landscape, both nationally and in London, during a critical period for our sector. Blenheim s advocacy is passionate, incisive - and informed by evidence, its value base and its wide experience of delivering services in communities. It is listened to by decision makers and has been a key voice in setting the agenda and moving forward the debate. Blenheim has 3,005 people in structured treatment, therefore saving society 78,353,370 this year.

14 Partnerships Thames Reach and Blenheim are a great example of two charities taking a pragmatic approach to their work and seeing what can be gained by this approach. Charity Commission We recognise the value of partnerships and our current services are evidence of this commitment. We work closely with a wide range of partners from criminal justice agencies, treatment and health and social care providers, across the voluntary, private and public sectors. Joint working supports each individual service user s recovery and directly impacts on their experience and positive recovery. We have evidence that successful partnership working is key to exceeding targets and achieving outcomes.
