Page 6 Page 4 MARCH 21 IS THE NEXT MEETING Our next regularly scheduled meeting is schedule for March 21, It will follow our usual format of a casual, open style carve-in. There will be a short business session at 11:00am. Bring refreshments to share. Last month we had donuts, cake and cookies What will this month bring. MARCH DOOR PRIZE We will have a SHOW AND TELL display table. Please bring several items, something new, something old, something unfinished. Please place your name with each carving you bring. There will be a drawing held at the close of the business sessions for a carving knife donated by Greg Barnes. For each item you bring for the display you will receive one free ticket. Wear a Club shirt, receive a free ticket, wear a club logo and you will also receive a free ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased for $1.00 each. 2 JUST A FEW WORDS... from the club president Spring is still almost a week away but yesterday it was 79 degrees and I was mowing the lawn Speaking of spring We will participate in the annual SPRING FLING put on by the Mauldin Garden Club. This will take place in the Cultural Center auditorium on April 11th. We done this for a number of years and it s always fun. We need carvings for display and carvers to interact with the public that stops to look. We take turns carving and talking. Here s a photo from last year. Lila, John and Heyward were talking and others were busy carving. A FUN DAY from 8 am till 2 pm. DID YOU MISS IT? If you miss a club meeting you may be missing out on important news. We try to keep our business session brief and to the point, but it does include information about the club that you may find interesting. For instance: in a recent meeting the annual financial statement for 2014 was presented to the club. A copy is posted on the bulletin board in the club room. We also cover upcoming events and the latest news on plans for our annual show. The Board of Directors has discussed the possibility of holding monthly meetings in the auditorium if attendance was large enough. 4 CARVING MARK AKERS Mark has accepted another position with his current job and will not be able to do our April meeting as planned. We are so fortunate to have such top-ranked carvers that are friends of PWCC. He is on our list of possible seminars for this year. Mitch Cartledge Seminar. Did you wait to long to register??? Here is her Mary and Joseph figures. A special thanks to Jim Woods for leading this project. GREAT NEWS FOR RELIEF CARVERS November 6 th, 7 th and 8 th we will be having relief class with Greg Wirtz. The cost of 3 day class will be $150 if we can get 10 students. If you are interested please send $50.00 deposit by May 30 th. As of June 1 st I will open the reservajons for non PWCC members. Greg has several new projects to choose from as well as his Santas. 5 2015 SCULPTURES AND DESIGNS IN WOOD QUESTION: HOW DO YOU PAY FOR AN ANNUAL SHOW? ANWSER: A RAFFLE PAYS FOR SOME OF IT GOOD NEWS:The State legislature has passed a bill that now makes raffles legal in South Carolina. CLUB PROJECT: A flat plane nativity set to raffle off at our annual show. This nativity set has 14 pieces and we are looking for volunteers to carve one piece for the set. It will be nice to have as many members involved in this as possible. The idea is to get this completed as soon as possible so we can display it during the year leading up to our show. Vince DiCarlo is cutting blanks and making patterns. Hopefully they will be available for our next meeting. It is important that all pieces are done to the same scale and style. 8 JULY 2014 WOOD CARVING MEMBERSHIP DUES Did you notice that page six is a membership application? We have a membership grace period through the month of March, then our mailing list is purged. So far renewals are running ahead of last year but we don't want to lose anyone. We do ask that you fill out a membership application along with your check. this form is used to balance funds received back to our membership list. It helps to keep our records accurate.
