6 Playhouse Program Participating in The Playhouse Program allows you to support Austin Habitat for Humanity in building affordable housing without ever stepping onto a construction site! Volunteers build and decorate life-sized playhouses, which are then donated to local children in need through our community partnerships. We supply the building materials, tools, safety equipment and professional supervision; you supply volunteers and a space to build! Our Panel Build allows up to 60 volunteers to participate in building the interior and exterior stud wall panels of an Austin Habitat home. Additional tasks include set-up, lay out, assembling, raising/loading finished walls, and cleanup. Playhouse Build Day Activites: Brief safety overview and introduction to the program Volunteers assemble pre-cut pieces, shingle roof, and paint interior/exterior of playhouses Group photo opportunity with completed playhouses & short dedication ceremony to donate the playhouse to the beneficiary Disassemble and load playhouses onto trailer or truck for transport On larger or full-day projects, volunteers may also help to prep future playhouse kits Half Day Projects One shift of up to 10 volunteers per playhouse 9am-12pm OR 1pm-4pm Full Day Projects Two shifts of up to 5 volunteers per playhouse 9am-12pm AND 1pm-4pm s are welcome to take this event and truly make it their own. 7 Home Repair Program The Benefits of Homeownership Affordable housing stock is regularly lost at a rate faster than it is built, so helping keep what is already affordable a healthy, safe and decent place to live makes a huge impact on the low-income neighbors of your community. Our Home Repair Program provides critical repairs for people who make 60% or less of the Median Family Income, many of which are elderly and/or disabled. Projects typically include replacing doors and windows; restoring structural integrity; installing grab bars, handrails and ADA ramps; and patching or replacing roofs. Home Repair sponsorship allows groups of up to 15 volunteers at a time, 2 days per month (on the same project), with a special dedication on the final day of work. Housing is considered affordable when a household pays less than 30 percent of their income on monthly housing costs. The impact of owning a home and having affordable payments is powerful. It s not just about owning a house, it s about having home, strengthening a community and building the foundation for a better life. My name is Ebonie and I ve been an Austin Habitat for Humanity homeowner since After me and my daughter, Dekota, moved into our home, I was able to begin working on other goals. Now, I run my own 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Mission Accomplished where we make a difference in the lives of those in the community. Austin Habitat afforded me the opportunity to show my daughter what it feels like to live in a stable environment as well as how to become a business owner
