Challenge Yourself & Change the Life of a Child
Camp Boggy Creek was founded in 1996 by Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, with one simple premise in mind, that every child, no matter their illness, could experience the transformational spirit and friendships that go hand in hand with camp. With unobtrusive expert medical care, it was their dream that Camp would provide seriously ill children with a fun-filled experience defined by compassion, laughter and acceptance. Since 1996, Camp Boggy Creek has made it possible for children with serious illnesses to enjoy a camp experience in a safe, medically-sound environment. Located just a short drive from Orlando, Florida, the 232-acre camp serves children ages 7-16 who ve been diagnosed with chronic or life-threatening conditions. Camp Boggy Creek never charges campers to attend and never asks them to contribute anything other than a positive, playful attitude. As a year-round retreat, Camp Boggy Creek is able to serve thousands for campers and their families through activity-packed weekly and weekend camp programs. The camp offers children the chance to catch their first fish, go horseback riding or climb our ropes tower, all while making new friends. Beyond boundless fun, Camp Boggy Creek provides fellowship. Children can spend time with others who are just like them and share their life-experiences, which serves as a reminder that they are not alone 1

Set Your Goals I will raise $ by this date. I will contact people in order to reach my goal. For example, your fundraising goal is to raise $500. You estimate the average contribution will be $25. If 20 of the people you contact contribute, you will need to contact 50 people to meet your goal. Log-in to your Personal Fundraising Page Upload a personal photo. Create a message connecting yourself to the cause. Fill out your I accept the Challenge Page. Create and Implement a Fundraising Plan Use at least three of these ideas to maximize success: Build a camp of Supporters Run a successful campaign Ask for gifts Host an event Involve your company / workplace Ask for help Connect on Social Media Like the Challenge Ride on Facebook to connect with other riders and invite friends to join: 3

Who Is In Your Camp? Each summer our Cabins are filled with bright new faces, lots of laughter and friends to last throughout the year. Build your own Cabin Circle of supporters by making a list of people you know using the following categories or create categories of your own. hallenge yourself to think of 50 names to help fill your camp of support- begin your fundraising by reaching out to this list. Green Cabin (Friends) Yellow Cabin (Family) Red Cabin (Colleagues) Blue Cabin (Others- Be Creative!) 5
Keys to Fundraising Success Make it Personal: Personalize your fundraising Web page with a picture, story or video. Follow Up: Most donors will not give until the third time they are asked. Send out multiple s to friends and family and post to social media regulary. Share Camp s Mission: Use stories and pictures from Camp in your outreach to potential donors. Visit the Champions section for Camper stories. Use Your Online Fundraising Tools: Utilize your Web page, participant HQ, templates & thank-you notes. Set Clear Goals and Deadlines: Create a plan and stick to it! You will be amazed at how quickly you can achieve your goals! o For example, if you would like to raise $2,500 by August 15th for Camp (the cost of sending a child to Camp for during a summer session) set a goal to raise half by July 15 th, or challenge yourself to asking 10 people for support each week. Diversify: Use a mix of s, phone calls, personal letters, notes and social media to reach your goal. The more fundraising ideas you use the better your chances are for success. Thank Your Donors! Your donors will receive a Thank You from Camp Boggy Creek, but don t stop there. It s important to send a personal thank you to let them know how much you appreciate their support. This can be in the form of a personal note or . 6
Fundraising 101 Everyone! Send an to all family and friends, asking them to contribute. local businesses that might be interested in your cause. Ask them to sponsor you. Send an to your co-workers inviting them to contribute. As you receive donations, write thank you s. Manage Your Address Book Keep track of who you ve ed and when. Tips for a Successful Campaign Your subject line should be simple and cause related. Make it personal. Briefly explain why Camp Boggy Creek is so important to you. Educate your donors on your cause and stress the benefits of contributing. For additional information on how donations benefit Camp, please see the What It Takes page in this packet. Be sure to include the link to your fundraising page, & make it stand out. Ask often and ask big! Keep donors updated on your progress- share training, fundraising progress or other updates through social media, a personal blog or to connect potential donors to your personal efforts. Always ask contacts to forward your to others. 7
How to Ask for Support Five Easy Steps to Request Support 1. Identify the need you are trying to address. 2. Explain why it is important to you. 3. Share what you are doing about it. 4. Ask your potential supporter to take a specific action. 5. Stop talking! Give the person your speaking with time to absorb your request and to respond. An Example of a Face to Face Request for Support Children coping with serious illness and their family members often feel isolated and alone in their struggle and miss out on the opportunity to experience the fun, friendship, and spirit of childhood. I am cycling 60 miles in the 7 th Annual Challenge Ride to help Camp Boggy Creek provide a safe, mecially sound camp experience for thousands of Florida campers and their families, completely free of charge. Will you help me reach my goal of raising $200 by making a donation today? 8
How to Involve Your Company Matching Gifts Employee matching gifts (also known as matching funds) are grants an employer makes to match its employee s charitable contributions. Check with your company on their matching gifts policy. Start a Corporate Team Challenge yourself and fellow employees to participate in the Challenge Ride. Enjoy an unmatched teambuilding experience as you train and fundraise for an epic charity athletic event with friends and colleagues. Host an Employee Jean s Day Inspire your fellow co-workers to donate to your fundraiser by hosting a Jean s Day in your office. An example, would be that any employee that donates $10 to your cause can wear jeans to work on the designated day. Sponsorship Opportunities The Challenge Ride has many opportunities for sponsorship involvement at a variety of levels. For more information, please visit our event website at: campboggycreek.org/challengeride and select the Sponsorship Opportunities link. 9
How to Record Donations Made Offline (Donations made via cash or checks) All Checks should be made payable to Camp Boggy Creek. Please print your name/team in the memo section of the check to ensure proper credit. Mail checks to: Camp Boggy Creek ATTN: Challenge Ride Brantley Branch Rd. Eustis, FL Once we get the donations, a staff member will make it count in your fundraising page. Please note, if sending cash the participant must include donor s name and address to ensure they receive proper acknowledgment and receipt.. 10
About Camp Boggy Creek Camp Boggy Creek is specifically designed for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of a traditional camp. Between early morning swims and evening campfires, children whose lives have been a series of medical procedures and hospital stays are transformed into just kids. They have a chance to be with others coping with the same illness or condition and realize that they are not alone. "When our son is at Camp Boggy Creek he doesn't have to answer questions about being in a wheelchair. Other kids are eager to play with him and offer their friendship." -Camper Parent "It's not about the activites, it's about the people. You can be friends with anyone without fear of being judged unfairly. It's more than just a place to have fun." - Andrew, Camper Camp Boggy Creek is 232 Acres of hope. 11
