1 Terms of Reference: PR and Media Officer ENDAIDS2030 Festival Date of Contract : for completion by 1 st December 2018 Number of Days: 15 STOPAIDS is looking for an experienced PR and Media Officer to coordinate press and media coverage for our World AIDS Day Festival. The PR and Media Officer will lead on liaising with press and media key stakeholders to ensure that the festival is covered widely in traditional and digital media. We are looking for someone who is well-connected with strong media relations and experience in delivering strong press coverage on both small and large-scale events. They will need to have excellent organisational and communication skills and will work closely with the ENDAIDS2030 Festival producer to achieve the best outcome for the festival. The key focus of the PR consultant will be to promote and achieve coverage about the whole ENDAIDS2030 Festival, targeting all regions across the UK and drawing extra attention to the key events organised by the festival - the music event, a vigil, the London Eye Light Up (TBC) - and also the events organised by community groups and organisations. The post holder will be accustomed to working on various projects, will be flexible and able to deal with conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines. Background information STOPAIDS is a membership network of 70 organisations with a thirty year history of engagement on international development and HIV and AIDS. We bring UK civil society together, standing united, to advocate for UK leadership in the global response to HIV and AIDS.

2 World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st of December each year. It s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day will mark the 30 th World AIDS Day. Project Description This year, to mark the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day, STOPAIDS plans to partner with its members and other interested parties across both the international and domestic HIV sectors and across the country to hold a week-long festival of events, all under the umbrella of ENDAIDS2030, leading up to and including World AIDS Day (starting Monday 26 th November and running to Monday Dec 3rd). The Festival unites the domestic and international HIV sectors and all those passionate about ending AIDS in the UK under a one-off unifying non-organisationally-specific logo and key messages focused on the 30 th Anniversary of World AIDS day and the target of ending AIDS by All organisations, groups and individuals producing events as part of the festival will link to the festival by displaying the Festival logo and incorporating Festival headline messages into their event promotion. The festival will consist of a series of events including policy events in parliament and lifestyle events involving sports, music, dance and art. STOPAIDS Members, partners and interested members of the public can put on events on any topic related to HIV, either alone or in partnership with others. The final event on Saturday December 1st will be a large music event bringing as many people together as possible, including those who have been involved in the festival throughout the week. The music event will be held in a London venue and will be the culmination moment of the week. It will unite all those involved in the events in the preceding week but will be particularly targeted at engaging young campaigners and supporters from the public to mark the 30 th anniversary of World AIDS Day and highlight our key messages from the week, working towards the shared goal of ending AIDS by We will partner with Youth Stop AIDS for this event and use it as an opportunity to reach new audiences, in particular young people, and raise awareness about the UK and global HIV responses and issues such as prevention, testing and stigma. Young people and adolescents are disproportionately affected by HIV and this music event will provide a unique platform to engage with them in an environment that s appealing. We will aim to secure musicians, speakers and a venue that will resonate with a young audience. STOPAIDS will provide a resource pack for all those interested to be involved in holding events including event ideas, promotional materials and policy and advocacy products.

3 All affiliated events will be profiled on the WorldAIDSDay.org website in partnership with National AIDS Trust; through a festival programme pamphlet that can be handed out; through social media and through the mainstream media. Project Aims: Build broader public support for UK leadership in the global and domestic HIV responses This festival would aim to reach the members of the public through discussions and lifestyle events across the country, working closely with celebrity, corporate and political partners. Many of the events will happen in London and Brighton but there will be events scattered across the UK, many supported by Youth Stop AIDS campaigners who will develop events through their local groups. We would aim to secure national and local media coverage in print and online on the festival to raise public awareness about HIV in the UK and globally and foster ongoing engagement in the work of the festival s participating partners. Mobilise and engage high level UK political leadership for the global and domestic HIV responses Some of the events would aim to engage DFID and DoH Ministers to attend. We would also hold a dedicated parliamentary event to create a photo opportunity for parliamentarians to show their support for the end of AIDS. Build partnership and collaboration across the international and domestic HIV sectors and across cultural institutions The festival would give STOPAIDS members and the domestic HIV sector an opportunity to profile their own organisations work but also to collaborate with others on joint projects and link with cultural and entertainment institutions. Youth Stop AIDS groups, ONE Campaign youth ambassadors and other interested youth groups around the country will also host events. Experience: Essential: Previous experience in PR/media campaigns with a proven track record of delivering results Able to take a pro-active approach and flexible working Able to work under pressure and deliver to deadlines Excellent copywriting and editing skills Desirable:

4 Previous experience working in the NGO sector and/or music industry General PR and Media Officer responsibilities: To work closely with the Festival Producer to manage the PR and Communications most effectively Design a PR and Communications strategy for the Festival To achieve communication with key journalists and media outlets about the festival, and the music event. To engage new audiences about the festival and the music event, with particular attention to year olds. To produce PR that is accessible and communicates the message of the festival and encourages people to attend the festivals events, parties and music event. To work with established partners of STOPAIDS on press collaborations (celebrities, multilaterals, partner organisation press staff, international speakers etc) To ensure Listings are fully utilised - the festival to be present in all major print and online eg. Time Out, Metro et al. To explore radio coverage: (targets of the BBC, BBC London, LBC, Regional Radio) and, if possible, TV coverage. To achieve press coverage around the festival including interviews, features with artists/speakers/celebrities/ambassadors involved. Key deliverables: To cover ENDAIDS2030 Festival in several national media outlets either online or in print - Times, Guardian, Metro, City AM, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed To cover ENDAIDS2030 Festival in regional media outlets either online or in print, with through communications targeted at audiences aged To secure some radio or TV coverage Timings: Start immediately The specific dates of work between now and the start of the festival are to be agreed but a concentrated period of work would be needed immediately and around the festival itself.
