3 At Age UK Hertfordshire we want you to enjoy later life We want to help you to get the most out of later life. We recognise that sometimes getting older can present a number of challenges so we provide a range of services that help you to keep active and living independently for as long as possible. We have been supporting older people for over 50 years. So you can have full confidence in the services that we provide. Every week we help over 3000 older people get more out of later life. Our dedicated and hardworking team of volunteers and staff: enable people to keep fit, healthy and active organise events and creative activities at our social clubs provide vital information to older people, their relatives and friends give help with managing paperwork and financial matters visit isolated older people in their own homes for companionship support people after a stay in hospital help older people with household chores Most of our services are free apart from Help in the Home and some of our social clubs for which we make a small charge. 4 Information and advice We can help you If you need information or advice, help with filling in claim forms or you just simply don t know where to go to get the support that you need our Information and Advice team are there to help you. They can provide assistance over the telephone on a wide range of topics and issues that affect older people. The Information and Advice team arrange Information and Advice Sessions in your local community and they are also happy to come to your home to discuss any concerns you may have or provide assistance with claiming benefits. We understand that it is not always easy to ask for help but we hope that just one call to us could change your life for the better. Call our Countywide Information and Advice Line t e info@ageukherts.org.uk Independent living Helping you regain and retain your independence We understand that as we get older it can be hard to maintain our independence whether due to ill health, following the loss of a partner, close friend or relative, after a stay in hospital or simply because we do not have the capacity to do so. At Age UK Hertfordshire our friendly team of staff and volunteers are keen to help you to continue to do the things that you have always enjoyed, to be as self sufficient as possible and to remain in your home for as long as you wish to do so. We provide a range of long and short term schemes that enable you to regain your independence, give you the confidence to do things for yourself and the ability to get out and about. Our teams can help you with the household tasks that you find difficult around the house. A friendly chat with one of our volunteer visitors can help relieve social isolation. 6 Active Ageing Get the most out of later life Our clubs are vibrant communities where people aged 50 and over can meet like minded people, make new friends, share interests and take part in a wide variety of activities. They are bright and innovative places that provide a warm and welcoming environment where you can enjoy live entertainment, listen to interesting talks and go on outings to places of interest. We supply lunch and we can also provide return transport to your club. We want you to have fun, learn new skills and keep active and happy. 7 Volunteers are Vital Insurance Services Get involved. There is just so much important work to be done helping older people to live happy and healthy lives. Pam St Clement, Actor Age UK Hertfordshire relies on over 600 volunteers to help older people throughout the county and with your help we can support even more. We have a range of interesting and rewarding opportunities to suit you whether you d like to befriend an older person, help out in a club, provide valuable office assistance or work in one of our shops.
