1 An advanced hydrocolloid dressing for moderately exuding wounds Indications for use Wound debridement Pressure ulcers Moderately exuding wounds Leg ulcers Assess the wound and select a suitable size (so that 2.5cm of dressing, including the adhesive border, extends beyond the wound edge). Holding the dressing by the tabs marked 1, remove the protective paper layer. Being careful to avoid stretching, apply the dressing over the wound. Smooth the dressing and the film border and edges into place. The oval shape of Tegaderm Hydrocolloid and Tegaderm Hydrocolloid Thin dressing conforms easily to contoured areas such as heels and elbows. Remove the plastic carrier from the top of the dressing by peeling the sections marked 2 in the direction of the arrows. Smooth the dressing edges down as you remove the carriers. Gently tear off the end tab marked 1. Avoid lifting the edges of the dressing when removing the tabs. Reinforce the dressing adhesion by applying gentle finger pressure over the dressing. 4 An advanced hydrocolloid dressing for low to moderate exuding wounds Indications for use Pressure ulcers on sacrum and/or ischial areas At risk and damaged skin around the sacral-coccyx area Pressure ulcers on hips Prior to removing the printed liner, fold the dressing in half and crease it down the centre. This will assist one-handed application into the gluteal cleft. Hold the tabs together, this will prevent gloves from sticking to the dressing. Remove the printed liner. Holding both tabs, position the dressing over the wound, tilting the dressing towards the anal area. Separate the buttocks to achieve better placement. Secure the dressing firstly above the anus to minimise wrinkling and tenting. After securing the dressing into the cleft, gently press adhesive sides of the dressing down from the centre outward. This will avoid wrinkling and provide a smooth, neat application. Avoid stretching the dressing or the skin. Remove the dressing frame, starting at the top and working downward. Reinforce and smooth the film border from the centre outward. Continue down one side, ending at the notch. Repeat process from other side until all sections of the frame are removed.
