But they are not all the same. The tube coating formula and other features vary between the products. 4 Urotonic Surface Technology low friction during the entire catheterization LoFric catheters are the only ones available with Urotonic Surface Technology (UST). Once activated, UST creates minimal friction during the entire process of catheter ization. This is due to a combination of two properties: A hydrophilic surface A surface layer that is isotonic to urine Being isotonic to urine prevents water from the surface of the catheter to migrate into the surrounding tissue (the urethra). Migrating of water can cause the catheter surface to dry out and thus increasing friction at withdrawal. LoFric catheters slide in and out of the urethra in a smooth and frictionless way making catheter ization more comfortable, and safe over time. Salt + water PVP Catheter tube The outer layer of the catheter the Urotonic Surface Technology consists of a thin polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) layer that together with salt, in the right concentration, binds water on the surface of the catheter.
