González-Gómez as a coordinator. The first Course was held in 1992 with 32 speakers and 290 participants, and was followed by other three ( speakers, 250 participants; speakers, 280 participants; and speakers, 140 participants). Courses were held at Caja Rural s Auditorium in Granada and were organized by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Clinic University Hospital of Granada.

Some courses should be primarily based on hands on training.

10 Jose M. Carrera, MD Professor Dexeus University Institute Barcelona, Spain Dr. Carrera graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1962 and obtained a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology speciality in In 1981 he earned a doctorate (Summa Cum Laude) for a thesis entitled «Contribution to the classification of intrauterine growth retardation». The Examining Board was then chaired by Professor Robert Caldeyro Barcia, the current President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). During his 40-year clinical and academic career, Jose M. Carrera chaired several Scientific Societies (Spanish Association of Prenatal Diagnosis, Ibero-American Society of Pre-natal Diagnosis, Catalan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, etc.) and headed a number of specialized sections within the SEGO (Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics), including the Ultrasonography Section and the Perinatal Medicine Section, etc. He was also Chairman of the European Committee on Doppler Technology, the European Committee on Prenatal Diagnosis and the European Diploma of Prenatal Diagnosis and Obstetric Ultrasonography. He presided over ten International Symposia and ran more than 100 courses on Perinatal Medicine. In addition, he chaired the 6th Spanish Congress of Perinatal Medicine (Barcelona, 1984) and the 5thWorld Congress of Perinatal Medicine (Barcelona, 2001), amongst others. His publications include 42 books, 102 book chapters and 232 scientific articles published in national and international journals alike. Amongst the positions held, he was appointed Professor («Catedrático visitante») of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Coimbra (1987), which later awarded him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in He is also the Chairman of Honorary Member of various international Scientific Societies. He is currently Secretary General at the WAPM and the International Academy of Perinatal Medicine.
