1 Name: Xueming Zhao Professional Title: Professor Telephone: Fax: Website: Research field Animal embryo biotechnology, mainly including in vitro maturation (IVM), in vitro fertilization (IVF) of mammalian oocytes, vitrification of oocytes and embryos. Work Experience , IAS, CAAS, Professor , IAS, CAAS, Associate Professor , University of Connecticut, Postdoctor , Institute of Animal Science (IAS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Assistant Professor. Educational background China Agricultural University, Animal embryo biotechnology, Ph.D , China Agricultural University, Animal embryo biotechnology, Master , China Agricultural University, Animal Science, Bachelor.
2 Notable honors and service Outstanding young researcher of CAAS. Research description In vitro maturation, fertilization of oocytes and embryo development We successfully establish the high efficiency system of in vitro production of bovine embryos, and the cleavage and blastocyst rates of IVM oocytes reach 85% and 40%.We also investigate the effect of antioxidants on the quality of oocytes and embryos. Notably, we preliminarily discover the mechanism via which melatonin improves the cytoplasmic maturation of bovine oocytes, which may be regulated by melatonin through demethylation approach (2017, Journal of Pineal Research, IF:10.391). Vitrification of mammalian oocytes and embryos We successfully cryopreserve the oocytes and embryos of mouse and bovine by using OPS method and EDFS30 vitrification solution. Mean while, we also focus on the effect of vitrification on the cellular, molecule and epigenetic events of oocytes and embryos. Notably, we find that vitrification leads to the apoptosis of oocytes via mitochondria and melatonin supplementation can inhibit this approach (2016, Journal of Pineal Research, IF:10.391). Funds Until now, I am the PI on nine grants, including two grants of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and I am also sponsored by China Scholarship Council and the outstanding research foundation of CAAS.
3 Reviewers I serve as the peer review of National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Agricultural Science and Technology Award, and five SCI journals, including PLoS One, Reprod.Fertil.Devel., Gene, etc. Publications and patients As the first/corresponding author, I have published 18 SCI papers. The total IF reached 60, and the IF of two papers reached 10. As the first inventor, I have applied for three invention patients. 1.
