Vantas GP Experts Insertion Service ONCE-YEARLY The Vantas GP Expert group consists of approximately 50 dedicated GP Experts strategically located tllrougrlout Ireland who have been fully trained in the Insertion and removal of Vantas. This service is easily accessed througll all Urology and Radiation oncology departments. Takes just a few minutes Requires local anaesthetic, which will numb the area where an incision will be made in the skin's surface. What is hormone suppression therapy? For decades, hormone suppression therapy has helped men fight prostate cancer. Blocking or suppressing tile male hormones, such as testosterone, may slow the growth of this type of cancer. This tllerapy can't cure prostate cancer, but it can slow the cancer's development (non-curative cancer medicines such as these are called palliative therapy). How has hormone suppression therapy changed ovel' time? Hormone suppression therapy has historically been given to patients as a series of injections. Until now, patients have needed to return for more medicine every few months. Now, the Vantas implant gives you the convenience of a full 12 months of therapy in just one treatment.

Set up appointments at times that work for. you

Your medical expert can insert the Vantas implant during your appointment with them and you will be able to go home straight after the procedure. Here is what you can expect:

Keep the bandage on and the area dry for at least 24 hours. After 24 hours, you may remove the bandage. Do not scratch or pick at the incision. Be careful not to bump the incision for a few days to help the healing process. Do not remove the adhesive strips - allow them to fall off by themselves. Do not lift, pull or push any heavy objects with your arm for at least 7 days, to allow time for the incision to Ileal. 12 months later, your medical expert will remove Vantas When treating prostate cancer with hormone suppression therapy, it is important that your medicine keeps your testosterone level low as it has been proven that this can slow the growth of prostate cancer. Your first Vantas implant starts working as soon as it is inserted, and within 4 weeks, Vantas will have reduced testosterone to the required low level. Vantas will then keep testosterone levels low for the entire 12 months of therapy. Vantas - unique technology The unique Hydron technology used to make Vantas begins releasing medicine immediately after the implant is placed in your arm and releases medicine continuously all year long.

After receiving the Vantas implant for the first time, you may experience an increase in testosterone levels during the first week. This may cause new prostate cancer-related symptoms to appear or your existing symptoms to get worse for a few weeks. Call your medical expert rigllt away if you have questions or unexpected problems, especially: These are not all the side-effects associated with Vantas. For more information, talk to your medical expert. When you are only receiving your medicine once a year you could feel less involved. It is therefore important to ensure that you are knowledgeable about your treatment and that you also know you have the flexibility to return to the medical expert during the year at times that work for you.
