2 Reproductive System: Organs that make possible the production of offspring.

3 Female Reproductive System: Produces the female sex hormones Provides female reproductive cell: Egg Cell Provides a place for fertilization to occur Protects and nourishes the fertilized egg as it grows and matures into a human being

4 Male Reproductive System: Provides the male reproductive cells: Sperm Produces sperm between ages 12 and 15 during a time called puberty Provides sperm a way to travel out the body

5 Problems of the Female Reproductive System: 1. Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): a collection of physical and emotional changes before and during menstruation 2. Toxic Shock Syndrome: rare but serious bacterial infection associated with incorrect tampon use. It many produce a fever and a sun-burn like rash, requires immediate medical care 3. Infertility: the inability to reproduce. It may be due to blocked fallopian tubes or failure to produce eggs. 4. Ovarian Cysts: growths on the ovary 5. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs): diseases that are spread during sexual contact. 6. Cancer: uncontrolled cell growth that destroys healthy tissue. (BREASTS, OVARIES, UTERUS, CERVIX)

6 Problems of the Male Reproductive System: 1. INGUINAL HERNIA: tissue separation that allows part of the intestine to push into the scrotum. Caused by heavy lifting. 2. STERILITY: the inability to produce enough healthy sperm to reproduce. Some causes: illness or exposure to drugs. 3. ENLARGED PROSTATE GLAND: common problem associated with aging. 4. SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES (STD): diseases that are spread by sexual contact. 5. CANCER: uncontrolled cell growth that destroys healthy tissue. (TESTICLES, PROSTATE)

7 How to take care of the Female Reproductive System: 1. Examine your breasts. Check once a month for unusual lumps or thickening. 2. Bathe regularly. 3. During menstruation (period) change tampons and sanitary pads frequently. 4. Record your menstrual periods. 5. Practice sexual abstinence before marriage

8 How to take care of the Male Reproductive System: 1. Get regular checkups by a physician. 2. Practice self-examination of the scrotum and testicles once a month, checking for unusual lumps or swelling. 3. Bathe regularly to ensure cleanliness. 4. Avoid wearing tight underwear, and wear a protective cup or supporter during athletic activities to prevent accidental injuries. 5. Practice sexual abstinence before marriage.
