1 YaraVita GRAMITREL A new innovation for crop nutrition
2 YaraVita GRAMITREL High Spec YaraVita GRAMITREL is a highly formulated suspension concentrate containing: ANALYSIS 6.4% w/v = 64 g/l nitrogen (N) 15% w/v = 150 g/l magnesium (Mg) [25% w/v = 250 g/l magnesium oxide (MgO)] 15% w/v = 150 g/l manganese (Mn) 5.0% w/v = 50 g/l copper (Cu) 8.0 % w/v = 80 g/l zinc () YaraVita GRAMITREL is rich in key nutrients and very tank mixable: Easy to use flowable Immediately dispersed no dissolving necessary Exceptional tank mixability Very rainfast Very safe Very effective Available in 10 litre pack Built for Purpose YaraVita GRAMITREL is the latest foliar product to be released by Yara s Product Development team in Pocklington, England. Developed specifically for application on to cereals. Why Foliar Apply? Foliar sprays ensure precise application of the right nutrient mix at the right time, and can be specifically targeted to the leaf or fruit, to suit an immediate crop need. Foliar application also provides nutrients for immediate uptake by the leaves or fruits. As a result, the grower is not reliant on the right soil, ph or growing media conditions and can quickly put the crop back on course. Cereals: An adequate and balanced nutrition is one of the most important factors affecting cereal production. Copper, magnesium, manganese and zinc are especially important for the optimum growth of cereal crops. Straw strength, pollen quality and grain set depend on sufficient copper, zinc availability ensures growth hormones are activated whilst magnesium and manganese directly affect leaf quality. Plants with poor manganese levels have been shown to be more susceptible to soil-born pathogens such as takeall. Gramitrel is formulated to supply all these vital nutrients in a concentrated, safe and balanced way. Application rates and timings: Cereals: 1 to 3 l/ha from the 2 leaf stage to second node detectable (Zadok s G.S. 12 to 32). Repeat applications at 10 to 14 day intervals, within this timing, if necessary. For autumn sown crops, an application prior to winter dormancy may also be beneficial. In addition, 1 l/ha from second node detectable to flag leaf fully emerged (Zadoks G.S. 32 to 39). Water rate: 50 to 200 l/ha.
3 Key nutrients for foliar application to optimise yield in cereals Correct grain development Cu role in lignification enables pollen release increasing fertilization and reducing the incidence of blind grain Optimum zinc status during seed set can result in a increased grain number and size Cu Mg Cu Mn Trials information Trial 2005-DE-112-F, conducted in Germany by Agratest on a wheat test crop. YaraVita Gramitrel was applied at 3 l/ha at GS Yield (t/ha) Good plant structure Optimum Cu promotes lignification, decreasing the susceptibility of lodging, particularly with high N supply Optimum promotes auxin levels, which results in optimum canopy development Cu Mn Healthy roots Optimum Mn ensures high lignin content in the roots which increases resistance to root infecting pathogens Mg Mn Green leaves Mg is a key component of chlorophyll, optimum supply drives photosynthetic activity in the leaf Mn and play key roles in the production of chlorophyll and photosynthesis Untreated Gramitrel Winter Wheat Gramitrel Trial The trial was carried out by KWS at their site in Cambridgeshire on two soil N rates and two seed rates. Gramitrel applied at T2 to the variety Cordiale to look at boosting yield/ protein Yield (t/ha) Control Gramitrel Seed Rate (seeds/m 2 ) Nitrogen Rate (kg N/ha) The average yield increase from applying Gramitrel was 0.3 t/ha.
4 Key nutrients for cereals The major nutrients, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) are applied routinely to cereal crops. But just as important for optimum yield and quality are the secondary nutrients and trace elements. Magnesium, manganese, zinc and copper for early plant establishment, production of healthy tillers and the maintenance of healthy green leaves throughout the season. Copper for ear fertility and grain set of the crop. Magnesium, sulphur and copper for grain quality such as protein content, thousand-grain-weight and baking characteristics. Even in the absence of the deficiency symptoms illustrated here, sub-clinical deficiency, or hidden hunger, can seriously reduce crop health and performance. will be affected if any nutrients are limiting, even for a short time. Magnesium Deficiency Fig 1 Alternate green and pale yellow bands along leaves, resembling a string of beads. Older leaves are affected first and die back prematurely. Magnesium is important for good crop establishment and part of the chlorophyll molecule. Manganese Deficiency Fig 2 Pale yellow mottling on the most recently matured leaves, which may also appear floppy. Also, brown flecking in barley. Usually seen in patches across a field, deficiency is aggravated by wet, cold conditions and high ph, peaty and sandy soils (especially those with a puffy structure), liming and cropping of old pastures. Soil compaction and nitrogen top dressing can temporarily alleviate symptoms. Copper Deficiency Fig 3 Spiralling of younger leaves (flag leaf in particular) and shrivelling of leaf tips. Deficiency frequently occurs following nitrogen application, reclamation of heathland, on peaty and sandy soils and thin organic soils over chalk. Ears show blind grain sites or poor grain formation. Zinc Deficiency Fig 4 Parallel yellow bands appear at either side of the leaf midrib. In wheat this is followed by necrotic blotches. In barley this is followed by orange/brown blotches. Fig 1 Fig 2 Fig 3 Sulphur Deficiency Symptoms occur first in younger leaves, the entire leaf becoming pale yellow. Crop growth is stunted. Prolonged deficiency results in delayed maturity and reduced protein in grain. Analysis is the most accurate way of assessing nutrient deficiency and identifying cost-effective treatment. Where deficiencies of a number of nutrients are diagnosed, consider applications of crop-specific multinutrient product Gramitrel. Fig 4
