It was discovered in the early 1930 s by two scientists at Columbia University in New York, Karl Meyer and John Palmer. Subsequent research into Hyaluronic Acid revealed that it s an integral component of many areas of the body. HA plays an important role in cell proliferation and migration, as well as tissue hydrodynamics. It s a major component of articular cartilage (the tissue that cushions the area between joints) and synovial fluid (the fluid that lubricates joint tissues). In fact, HA is one of the two main lubricating components found in joint tissues (lubricin being the other).
