1 Medical nutritional therapy for healthy eating
2 Is nutrition counseling right for you? Have you been told you have any of the following conditions? Heart disease, high blood pressure or high cholesterol Metabolic syndrome, prediabetes or diabetes Osteoporosis or osteopenia Gastrointestinal disorder Autoimmune disease Do you have trouble reaching or maintaining a healthy weight? Do you suffer from digestive problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome, reflux, gas or bloating? Do you want to improve your health and well-being through nutrition and a healthier lifestyle? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you could benefit from nutrition counseling.

4 Nutritional counseling just for you You know that maintaining a healthy diet is important for both good health and weight control. It can also help you manage certain chronic diseases and even reduce your risk of developing heart disease, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal problems and some cancers. This is why we offer personalized medical nutrition therapy (MNT) with a registered dietitian to help you make the best dietary choices. It starts with an individualized assessment Our MNT counseling is tailored to your specific needs. Your first visit includes: A comprehensive nutrition evaluation, including a review of your eating and exercise habits, medical history, weight, body mass index (BMI), relevant lab tests and medical treatments Education on healthy eating, food preparation and strategies for overcoming obstacles in your daily diet Customized nutritional recommendations hormonal changes and pregnancy influence a women s digestive health. These common digestive problems can also lead to discomfort, nutritional deficiencies and unintentional weight changes. The foods you eat can help you manage symptoms and prevent nutritional imbalances. Obesity and weight management Many health conditions are associated with excess weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, digestive disorders and certain cancers, particularly postmenopausal breast and endometrial cancer. Abdominal obesity is also strongly related to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Making nutritious food choices and increasing physical activity are keys to achieving a healthier weight. Monitoring your success During follow-up visits, we ll help you track and evaluate your progress and offer additional information and guidance based on your specific health and nutrition needs. Focused on your health and wellness, our dietitian works closely with your physicians and other members of your medical team to coordinate your care. Balanced nutrition is essential for your good health Nutrition for heart health Heart disease is the leading killer of women in the United States. The good news is you can significantly reduce your risk. Your diet, in addition to regular exercise, can help you prevent and even reverse heart disease. Nutrition for gastrointestinal (GI) health GI issues, such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, celiac disease and gallstones, affect women more often than men. Also,
5 Nutrition for healthy bones Women acquire about 85 to 90 percent of their bone mass during childhood and adolescence, so it s important to start paying attention to your bone health as early as possible. Calcium and vitamin D are important for bone health. Women need 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium a day (1,200 milligrams after age 50). The recommended daily allowance for vitamin D is international units (IU) for women under 50 and 800-2,000 IUs for women over 50. Other essential factors to consider for bone health include not smoking, regular weight-bearing activities (such as brisk walking, jogging and dancing) and limiting salt and soft drinks, as they contribute to bone loss. MNT counseling is available for a variety of health issues, including: Autoimmune disease Bone health Diabetes Eating disorders Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders Heart disease High blood pressure High cholesterol Prenatal and postnatal nutrition Sports nutrition Weight management
