VARIETIES AND CHARACTERISTICS The avocado is a superfruit for being considered the most complete among fruits and vegetables. It doesn t contain cholesterol, but it contains healthy fats that favor the levels of HDL beneficial for our organism and reduces bad LDL for health. It is a good source of fiber, minerals, micronutrients, folic acid (200 gr. avocado provide 90 mcg aprox.) Contains almost all vitamins. Contains more potassium than bananas. The most exportable varieties of Peru are the Hass and Fuerte. A) HASS Variety It s originally from California, it s fruits are oval in shape piriform, medium size (180 to 300 gr.), excellent quality, thick, rough skin, peel with ease and presents green to dark purple when the fruit ripens. The pulp doesn t have fiber and its oil content fluctuates between 18 and 23%. The seed is small in size and spherical shape and attached to the pulp.

3 The fruit can remain in the tree sometime after reaching maturity, without losing its quality. The tree is very sensitive to the cold and very productive. It s currently the most commercial variety in the world. Reaches to 10 cm size. B) FUERTE Variety This avocado comes from the yolk out of a tree native of atlixo (Mexico) and have characteristics intermediate between the Mexican and Guatemalan race, for what is considered a natural hybrid of these two races. The fruits have piriformis aspect, of medium size (180 to 400 gr.). Its medium length is 10 to 12 cm. and its width of 6 to 7 cm. The skin, slightly rough, dark green, medium thick, easy cut, it separates easily from the flesh. The quality of its fruit is indisputable, the pulp lacks fiber and has an oil content of which can very between 18 and 24% IV.
