TEACHER: DANIELA ROJAS OSORIO 1. OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS. The following reinforcement plan contains basic concept of the topics developed along the term. To make it completely it is necessary to take into account all development and control guides already done, class notes and bibliography given at the end of this plan. This reinforcement plan should be responsibly completed in order to participate in the collective feedback that will be done; besides it must be kept to be supported during the recuperation activities that will take place at the end of the year. 2. 2 GUÍAS Página 2 de 6 Living things All living things have a life cycle Some living things have a long life cycle, like the sequoia trees, live for years and others short life cycle, for example, the bacteria live for 24 hours. BACTERIA LIFE CYCLE It s so fast, it lives for 24 hours. FLY LIFE CYCLE It is between a week and a month HUMANS LIFE CYCLE These live approximately for 100 years SEQUOIATREES LIFE CYCLE It lives for years The classification of living things: animals, plants, fungi and microorganisms There are many different living things on our planet. You can look around and find thousands of types of trees, grasses, animals, etc. This diversity is very important to the environment and for us, because we need water so this reason we need aquifers, lakes and rivers. We need food so this reason we need animals like cow, fish, chicken, pork, etc. We need to breathe (oxygen), medicines and wood for make our houses so we need trees and plants that capture carbon dioxide (CO2)

We can study living things in groups that have similar characteristics; we call this way of comparing things classification. The living things can be classified in 4 groups: Living things Animals Plants Fungi cs Microorganisms cs Can move Cannot make their own food Cannot move They need sunlight to make their food Cannot move They get food from the remains of other living things Tiny living things We cannot see We need to use a microscope Invertebrates Vertebrates Flowering plant Nonflowering plant Mushroom Yeast Mold Beneficial Cause illnesses Don t have a spine Have a spine Have flowers Don t have flowers Grow under the ground Microscopic fungi Grow on the decaying food Bacteria Turn milk into yogurt We use to make foods such as wine, bread and cheese Virus vs Bacteria A virus is not a bacteria. The human body always has some bacteria living in it, but it has a virus when the body is sick. Antibiotics are effective against sicknesses caused by bacteria. Vaccines are effective against some sicknesses caused by viruses. Virus Nonliving thing because it cannot reproduce Reproduction: It needs another living thing like humans, plants, animals and bacteria. 4 GUÍAS Página 4 de 6 Food and nutrition We need food, water and oxygen in order to live. Nutrition includes all the process involved in ingesting food substances, transforming them for their utilization and eliminating waste. Nutrition includes alimentation, digestion, breathing, circulation and excretion. Food is either of animal or plant origin, and is classified into four groups. GROUP FOOD THEY GIVE US COME FROM Protein Make the muscles strong Make the body s defenses strong Animals Fats Energy Protect us against the cold Animals plants Carbohydrates Energy Plants Vitamins and minerals Are important for the nervous system Make our muscles work well Plants Minerals Systems Digestive system This process, called digestion, allows your body to get the nutrients and energy it needs from the food you eat. Food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before the blood absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the body. Parts of the digestive system: mouth, esophagus, stomach, large intestine, small intestine, and anus Esophagus: When a person swallows, food pushes into the esophagus, the muscular tube that carries food and liquids from the mouth to the stomach. Stomach: The stomach stores swallowed food and liquid, mixes the food and liquid with gastric juice it produces. Small intestine: The muscles of the small intestine mix food with digestive juices from the pancreas, liver, and intestine and push the mixture forward to help with further digestion. Large intestine: It receives the food that we don t digest. It use water to change this food into feces. The feces then leave the body through the anus. Pancreas: The pancreas produces a juice containing several enzymes that break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in food. The pancreas delivers digestive juice to the small intestine. Liver: The liver produces a digestive juice called bile. Excretory system As your body performs the many functions that it needs in order to keep itself alive, it produces wastes. These wastes are chemicals that are toxic and that if left alone would seriously hurt or even kill you. Urine is the result of the excretory system balancing the amount of water and salts in your body. Parts of the excretory system: kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra and sweat glands.
