1 Interntionl Journl of Poultry Science 5 (7): , 2006 ISSN Asin Network for Scientific Informtion, 2006 Utiliztion of Treted Mngrof Leves Mel in Pullet Diets nd its Effect on Susequent Hens Performnce M.A. Al-Hrthi Fculty of Meteorology Environmentl nd Arid Lnd Agriculture, King Adulziz University, Sudi Ari Astrct: This work imed to improve the nutritive vlue of mngrof leves mel y cooking for 30 minutes or y supplementing either iogen or spices mixture e.g. Crdmom, Cumin, Hot nd Blck Pepper. The effects of feeding this mel on the productive performnce during pullets development (8-20 wks of ge) nd lying hens periods (21-28 wks of ge) were determined. Four hundred nd fifty 8- week old Hy- line egg strin femle chicks were rndomly divided into 15 dietry tretments in 5 replictes ech of 6 irds. Ech group during the studied periods ws fed one of the 5 experimentl diets without or with either iogen or spices mixture. Growth performnce nd nutrient digestiility during the pullet period (8-20 wks of ge), while ge t sexul mturity, egg production trits nd the chnges in ody weight, ovry nd oviduct, spleen nd liver weight studies during the lying period (21-28 wks of ge) were studied. Results otined showed tht the proximte nlysis of mngrof leves mel showed tht it contins resonle mounts of protein nd nitrogen free extrct s well s reltively high mount of fier. Boiling process tends to improve the mngrof mel content of protein nd decrese its content of sh nd some of the nti-nutritionl fctors such s tnnins. Improved feed conversion ws ssocited with incresed feed intke which contriuted to the tendency of increse in ody weight. Cooking tretment significntly incresed pullets growth gin nd improved feed conversion rtio, wheres feed intke nd the numer of ded pullets were not ffected. Although, either Biogen or spices mixture hd no enhncing effect on growth gin, feed intke nd feed conversion rte tended to improve. Incresing inclusion level of mngrof mel up to 10% significntly decresed lying rte, egg mss nd impired feed conversion. The opposite ws true with 5% of the tested mteril since it imposed less effect. Neither oiling process nor either studied feed dditives (iogen nd spices mixture) hd enhncing effect on most of the studied prmeters of lying hens performnce. It my e concluded tht pullets cn tolerte cooked mngrof leves mel t level 5% lone or 10% with Biogen supplementtion to chieve comprle feed conversion to tht of the control. Along the sme line, lying hens cn tolerte this tested mteril t level 5% lone without dversely ffecting the lyer performnce. Key words: Mngrof leves, egg production, Biogen supplementtion Introduction In mny countries, including Sudi Ari, poultry feed is sed primrily on corn nd soyen mel which eing the most expensive components of poultry diets. Fortuntely, high fier contining feedstuffs re utilized successfully in pullets nd lyers nutrition. Aki nd Mtsumto (1978) found tht feeding of cellulose did not ffect ody weight gin nd feed efficiency. Vrgs nd Ner (1984) found tht dietry fier (nutrients density) hd no significnt effect on egg production, egg weight, ody weight chnge nd energy lnce. El-Deek et l. (1995) using experimentl diets contining corn with co, rice polishing nd whet rn t 20% or other comintion of ech two (40%) or three (60%) ingredients showed tht Alexndri pullets growth during 8 to 23 wks of ge, feed conversion rtio, egg numer t 10% egg production nd mortlity rte were not ffected y dietry composition. Moreover, El-Deek et l. (1988) with csurins rnch lets; Osei et l. (1990) with gliricidi lef mel; Yssein et l. (1998) with leucen leucocephl nd Tlt (2003) with kochi indic indicted tht, no dverse effects were recorded on performnce of pullets nd lying hens. On the other hnd, Erstow et l. (1982) reported tht pectin, lignin nd lginte reduced chicks growth s feeding inclusion levels of dietry folcin-contining diet. Mngrof is fst- growing leguminous plnts. Its leves re widely regrded s source of resonle qulity protein (Ntionl Acdemy of Sciences, 1979) which mkes it promising feed for poultry. Like most hlophytes, its sh content nd nti-nutritionl ctivity of cell wll, non strch polyscchrides (NSP), hd n impiring effects on growth of irds (Choct nd Anninson, 1992 nd King et l., 1997). Consequently, severl feed processing techniques eing introduced in n ttempt to improve the nutritive qulity of the nonconventionl feedstuffs through correcting their nutritionl defect. Ghzlh (1996) explined the eneficil effect of oiling leucen lef mel in wter to the ility of wter s solvent on the hydrogen onds exist etween the phenolic groups which represent the structure of the 598

Pullet-development performnce: Results of pullets performnce during different growth periods re presented in Tle (3, 4, 5 nd 6). Considering the whole period, it is cler tht including mngrof leves mel up to 10% in the experimentl pullet diets linerly incresed feed consumption, lthough ll experimentl diets were formulted to stisfy nutrient requirements of pullets ccording to the strin ctlog recommendtion. This increment ws significnt y out 4.68% over tht of the control. It my e relted to the fct tht the irds hve to increse their feed intke to meet energy requirements. Also, tendency for pullets ody weight chnge to increse ws noticed mong experimentl irds in this respect ut such increse ws insignificnt. Such finding could e ttriuted to the ility of mngrof leves mel to provide enough nd dequte nutrients for norml development of the studied irds. Along the sme line, the digestiility of OM, CP, EE, CF nd C were not significntly ffected y incresing inclusion levels of the tested mteril up to 10 %, indicting no dverse effects on nutrient utiliztion. So, improved feed conversion ws ssocited with incresed feed intke which contriuted to the tendency of increse in ody weight. Mortlity rte ws lso not ffected. The present finding is well correlted with the findings of El-Deek, (1995 nd 2003 ) nd Tlt (2003) who indicted tht high fier contining diets hd no dverse effect on mortlity rte. Although, the est vlues of growth gin nd feed conversion rtio were otined s using 5% of mngrof leves mel in the experimentl diet, no significnt difference ws found etween this tretment nd tht of the control.
