The Bard supprts a healthy envirnment where children learn and participate in psitive dietary and lifestyle practices. Schls cntribute t the basic health status f children by facilitating learning thrugh the supprt and prmtin f gd nutritin and physical activity. Imprved health ptimizes student perfrmance ptential. The gals f the Charter LEA s wellness plicy are as fllws: 1. Prvide a cmprehensive learning envirnment fr develping and practicing lifelng wellness behavirs. The entire schl envirnment, nt just the classrm, shall be aligned with healthy schl gals t psitively influence a student's understanding, beliefs, and habits as they relate t gd nutritin and regular physical activity. A healthy schl envirnment shuld nt be sacrificed because f a dependence n revenue frm high added fat, high added sugar, and lw nutrient fds t supprt schl prgrams. 2. Supprt and prmte prper dietary habits cntributing t student's health status and academic perfrmance. All fds available n schl grunds and at schl-spnsred activities during the instructinal day shuld meet r exceed the district nutritin standards. Emphasis shuld be placed n fds that are nutrient dense per calrie. T ensure high quality, nutritius meals, fds shuld be served with cnsideratin tward variety, appeal, taste, safety, and packaging. 3. Prvide mre pprtunities fr students t engage in physical activity. A quality physical educatin prgram is an essential cmpnent fr all students t learn abut and participate in physical activity. Physical activity shuld be included in a schl's daily educatin prgram frm grades K thrugh 12. Physical activity shuld include regular instructinal physical educatin, c-curricular activities, and recess. A gal f 150 minutes per week fr elementary students, 225 minutes per week fr middle schl students, and 2 units fr high schl students during high schl years. 4. The District is cmmitted t imprve academic perfrmance. Educatrs, administratrs, parents, health practitiners, and cmmunities shuld cnsider the critical rle student health plays in academic stamina and perfrmance and adapt the schl envirnment t ensure students' basic nurishment and activity needs are met. T ensure widespread understanding f

Establish and maintain a district-wide Nutritin & Physical Activity Advisry Cuncil with the purpses f: Develping guidance t this plicy Mnitring the implementatin f this plicy Evaluating plicy prgress Serving as a resurce t schl sites Revising plicy as necessary 1. Advisry Cmmittee A Schl-wide Nutritin & Physical Activity Advisry Cmmittee will be established. The Cmmittee wuld meet a minimum f tw times annually. Any existing Schl Health Advisry Cuncil will serve as the nucleus fr the Cmmittee. The Cmmittee will include members as specified by law. Respnsibility f the Nutritin & Physical Activity Advisry Cuncil may include, but nt be limited t, versight f the fllwing: Implementatin f Schl nutritin and physical activity standards Integratin f nutritin and physical activity in the verall curriculum Assurance that staff prfessinal develpment includes nutritin and physical activity issues Assurance that students receive nutritin educatin and engage in vigrus physical activity 2. The Nutritin & Physical Activity Advisry Cmmittee will be respnsible fr preparing a reprt that includes, but is nt limited t, the fllwing infrmatin: Mnthly Schl menus and meal cunts Listing f all a la carte, vending, and cmpetitive fds sld by schl fd service Listing f all ther sales f fds thrughut the Schl including vending machines, schl stres, culinary, and special educatin prgrams, inschl and in-class fundraisers, etc. Listing f physical activity prgrams and pprtunities fr students thrughut the schl year. Outcmes f Cmmittee activities.

Suite 150 Phne: Student Nutritin The Schl Breakfast/Lunch Prgrams: The full meal schl breakfast and lunch prgrams will cntinue t fllw the USDA Requirements fr Federal Schl Meals Prgrams. The Schl Fd Service Prgram will fllw the Schl's Nutritin Standards when determining the items in a la carte and "cmpetitive fds" sales. The Fd and Service Directr must wrk clsely with the Nutritin & Physical Activity Advisry Cmmittee. Cafeteria Envirnment: A cafeteria envirnment that prvides students with a relaxed, enjyable climate that shall be develped The cafeteria is a place where students have: Adequate space t eat in clean, pleasant surrundings Adequate time t eat meals Cnvenient access t hand washing r hand sanitizing facilities befre meals When pssible recess time will be prvided fr elementary students befre lunch. Fundraising: All fundraising prjects fr sale and cnsumptin f fd items within and prir t the instructinal day will fllw the Schl's Nutritin Standards when determining the items being sld. 4. Student Nutritin Educatin: The Schl has a cmprehensive apprach t nutritin in Kindergarten thrugh 12th grade. All K-12 instructinal staff will be encuraged t integrate nutritinal themes int daily lessns when apprpriate. The health benefits f gd nutritin shuld be emphasized. Lessns will fcus n skills and psitive aspects f healthy eating. The Schl nutritin plicy reinfrces nutritin educatin t help students practice these themes in a supprtive schl envirnment. Parent Nutritin Educatin: Nutritin educatin may be prvided in the frms f handuts, pstings n the Schl website, articles and infrmatin prvided in Schl r schl newsletters,

Staff Nutritin & Physical Activity Educatin: Nutritin and physical activity educatin pprtunities will be prvided t all schls staff at the elementary, middle, and high schl levels. These educatinal pprtunities may include, but nt be limited t, the distributin f educatinal and infrmatinal materials and the arrangement f presentatins and wrkshps that fcus n nutritinal and healthy lifestyles, health assessments, fitness activities, and ther apprpriate nutritin and physical activity-related tpics. 5. Schl Nutritin Standards The Schl strngly encurages the sale r distributin f nutrient dense fds fr all schl functins and activities. Nutrient dense fds are thse fds that prvide students with calries rich in the nutrient cntent needed t be healthy. In an effrt t supprt the cnsumptin f nutrient dense fds in the schl setting, the Schl has adpted the fllwing nutritin standards gverning the sale f fd, beverage, and candy n schl grunds. Schls are encuraged t study these standards and develp building plicy using the fllwing Schl Nutritin Standards as minimal guidelines. Fd: Encurage the cnsumptin f nutrient dense fds, i.e. WHOLE GRAINS, FRESH FRUITS, VEGETABLES, and DAIRY PRODUCTS. Any given fd item fr sale prir t the start f the schl day and thrughut the instructinal day, will have n mre than 35% f its ttal calries derived frm fat. Any given fd item fr sale prir t the start f the schl day and thrughut the instructinal day, will generally have n mre than 10% f its ttal calries derived frm saturated fat. Nuts and seeds with minimal added fat in prcessing (n mre than 3 grams f added fat per 1.75 unce r less package size) are exempt frm these standards because they are nutrient dense and cntain high levels f mnunsaturated fat. Candy: Candy is defined as any prcessed fd item that has: a. Sugar (including brwn sugar, crn sweetener, crn syrup, fructse, glucse (dextrse), high fructse crn syrup, invert sugar, lactse, maltse, mlasses, raw sugar, table sugar (sucrse), syrup) is listed as ne f the first tw ingredients AND b. Sugar is mre than 35% f the item by weight. Vending sales f candy will nt be permitted n schl grunds.

Student Physical Activity Schl Physical Activity Gal: The Schl shall prvide physical activity and physical educatin pprtunities that prvides students with the knwledge and skills t lead a physically active lifestyle. The Schl shall utilize the fllwing Implementatin Strategies: 1. Physical educatin classes and physical activity pprtunities will be available t all students. 2. Physical activity pprtunities shall be ffered daily befre schl, during schl (recess), r after schl. 3. As recmmended by the Natinal Assciatin f Sprt and Physical Educatin (NASPE), schl leaders f physical activity and physical educatin shall guide students thrugh a prcess that will enable them t achieve and maintain a high level f persnal fitness thrugh the fllwing: Expse yungsters t a wide variety f physical activities Teach physical skills t help maintain a lifetime f health and fitness Encurage self-mnitring s yungsters can see hw active they are and set their wn gals Individualize intensity f activities Fcus feedback n prcess f ding yur best rather than n prduct Be active rle mdels 4. Intrduce develpmentally apprpriate cmpnents f a health-related assessment t the students at an early age t prepare them fr future assessments. 5. Physical educatin classes shall be sequential, building frm year t year, and cntent will include mvement, persnal fitness, and persnal and scial respnsibility. Students shuld be able t demnstrate cmpetency thrugh applicatin f knwledge, skill, and practice
