2 3 The Race Starts Here Totum Sport enhances sport performance and recovery starting with the building blocks of life; our cells. By establishing optimum cellular health, we create the foundation for maximum performance. Every function that takes place within the cells relies on minerals and trace elements, directly and indirectly. The electrolytes in Totum Sport are bioavailable, and can be readily absorbed immediately and naturally by your body. The electrolytes are in the correct proportions to support the body right down to the cellular level. When you exercise, your body not only loses water and electrolytes through sweat, but your cells also lose minerals during metabolism. This is why just testing sweat composition only shows you a limited proportion of what minerals your body is using up and losing. Ensuring that our cells are provided with everything they need to function at their optimum is fundamental to nutritional support. A single serving of Totum Sport has a volume that has been chosen specifically as it contains the equivalent amount of minerals and trace elements used up in one hour. Taking Totum Sport before, during and after exertion enables athletes to perform at their best with sustained speed, power, stamina and mental concentration with optimal recovery.

4 5 Electrolyte 78 Electrolytes Interdependency At present, there are multiple approaches to electrolyte supplementation in sport but they tend to focus on varying concentrations of a small number of electrolytes. The body requires all 78 electrolytes in specific proportions to ensure complete hydration. All electrolytes work together in the body. Hydration supplements that contain only a select few electrolytes will limit maximum absorption and function in the body. Only Totum Sport provides all 78 electrolytes in a bioavailable form that can be rapidly absorbed by your body for maximum performance. Our unique composition: You need sufficient levels of copper to be able to utilise iron. Iron helps with the supply of oxygen to your muscles, resulting in more energy and better athletic performance. The ratio of sodium to potassium should be at least 12:1, as found in Totum Sport. The ratio is an important factor as they influence each other. Many electrolyte supplements have a much closer ratio of potassium than sodium which can lead to increased risk of cramp and muscle damage, and potential adverse cardiovascular effects. The overall effect of having all 78 electrolytes present together amplifies their action on hydration and metabolism, and is multiple times greater than the sum of the individual contributions of each electrolyte in isolation or in small numbers. 4 6 7 Totum Sport = Optimum Performance BENEFIT 1 Complete Cellular Hydration Peak performance is a combination of strength, speed, stamina, reflexes and concentration. Totum Sport helps you to reach peak performance levels through these 5 key benefits: Complete Cellular Hydration Enhance Strength & Stamina Sustain Focus You push yourself to run faster, hit harder, aim farther, and crank out that last repetition. Dehydration occurs during intense exercise right down to the cellular level because you lose water and electrolytes through sweat and metabolism. By the time you are thirsty you are already dehydrated, equivalent to a water loss of 2% body weight. Studies show that a 2% loss in body weight from thirst results in a 10% loss in performance. The more dehydrated you become, the greater the reduction in performance. Reduce Cramps & Muscle Fatigue Maximum Recovery

8 9 PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE Figure 2: Graph showing the reduction in performance caused by dehydration Dehydration results in raised core temperature, muscle fatigue, cramps and increased muscle injuries. Water alone doesn t solve the problem. Trying to rehydrate with only water can slow digestion and lead to an imbalance of electrolytes, cramps and hyponatremia (low blood sodium). Intracellular electrolytes enable the cells to absorb and retain water, helping to prevent dehydration and hyponatremia. The body needs a product that works as hard as you do to keep it hydrated. Only Totum Sport provides all 78 naturally occurring electrolytes, ensuring complete hydration, right down to the cellular level!

10 11 BENEFIT 2 Enhance Stamina & Strength As an elite athlete, your muscular endurance and cardiovascular system are always tested to the limit. Stamina relies on adequate energy stores and oxygen. Once energy or oxygen supplies fail to keep up with demand, cellular respiration switches from being aerobic (with oxygen) to anaerobic (without oxygen). This conversion is significantly less efficient at generating energy for muscles to work. The 78 minerals and trace elements in Totum Sport enhances stamina by significantly delaying the switch from aerobic to anaerobic metabolism through optimising cell metabolism and regulating blood sugar to ensure cells (especially brain and red blood cells) are supplied with enough glucose and oxygen for as long as possible. Muscle contraction and relaxation requires minerals and trace elements, energy, oxygen and dissipation of heat. Lack of minerals and trace elements contributes towards muscle fatigue and resultant injuries. Totum Sport helps strength training by enabling extra reps, which help increase muscle mass and overall power. Muscles with greater overall capacity are less likely to be pushed to the limit, reducing the risk of cramp and injury.

12 13 BENEFIT 3 Sustain Focus The ability to maintain concentration keeps performance as strong in the last second as the first minute. Many mistakes and sports injuries occur late in the period of play. Glucose is the brain s primary source of energy. Low glucose levels lead to poor concentration, slowed reaction times, reduction in judgement and reduced depth and field of vision, all of which contribute to mistakes and injury. Insufficient glucose delivery from an upset in mineral balance and dehydration of the body, reducing the efficiency of oxygen uptake required for metabolism. Totum Sport regulates glucose and oxygen delivery, maximising glucose supply to the brain and nerves that support the ability to judge distance and peripheral vision. Teams and athletes that can stay focused right until the end know that this is the difference between winning and losing. Totum Sport ensures elite athletes finish strong. 8 14 15 BENEFIT 4 Reduce Cramps & Muscle Fatigue One of the major problems for elite athletes is muscle cramps, which can have massive impacts on performance. Totum Sport prevents the drop in blood sodium that contributes significantly to cramp and increased muscle injuries. Studies have shown that Totum Sport delays and reduces lactate production. This helps prevent muscle fatigue so that the athlete remains strong throughout and performance is not hindered. When there is a build up of lactic acid, there is a risk of physical fatigue, muscle soreness and cramping, all of which can heavily impact performance. Muscle fatigue occurs when an athlete does not fully recover. Totum Sport enhances the uptake of nutrients from your post exercise meal. This speeds up recovery as protein is more readily absorbed and utilised to aid in protein synthesis and muscle glycogen stores to be quickly replaced. This reduces recovery time for the athlete, preparing them for their next training session or competition.

16 17 BENEFIT 5 Maximum Recovery Recovering quickly between training sets and quick bursts of energy in competition allows you to keep your advantage going to the finish line. There is aproximately a 60-minute window post exercise where muscles and the liver have enhanced ability to replenish glycogen stores and absorb amino acids. Since glucose is the most important carbohydrate in energy production, it is important to maximise replacement. Glucose uptake at the intestinal level is performed by a sodium-dependant (Na) active transport mechanism. With the Na and a full range of electrolytes in Totum Sport, the uptake of glucose to replenish glycogen stores is enhanced. The concentration of sodium and the full complement of electrolytes have a buffering effect on the build up of lactic acid. This helps control cell acidity, reducing the risk of cramp and enhancing recovery. During training, our muscles breakdown and minor muscle damage occurs. Totum Sport enhances the absorption of amino acids consumed post training to repair damaged muscles. Adequate supply of amino acids from protein enables the body to repair, so the muscles grow bigger and stronger after training. Totum Sport provides a full range of minerals and trace elements to maximise your body s recovery and reduce the risk of injury.

18 19 Nutrition for Performance and Recovery Totum Sport provides all the minerals and trace elements required to enhance absorption and utilisation of all energy sources. The mineral composition of Totum Sport supports anti-oxidant activity that help to neutralise reactive oxygen species (ROS) so the cell can recover more quickly and reduce muscle damage from exercise. Nutrition that optimises performance supports all cellular activity and so optimises overall health. Maintaining health is foundational for performance. Getting nutrition right pre and post training is essential to optimise both your workout and recovery in readiness for your next session. Depending on your activity levels and training sessions, your personal dietary requirements will differ. Macronutrients are: 1. Carbohydrates 2. Protein 3. Fat

20 21 How Totum Sport works with Carbohydrates Carbohydrates are used during exercise as glucose derived from glycogen, stored in the muscle and liver. High intensity training uses carbohydrates as they break down into energy more quickly. This means if you are training at high intensity, you should consume carbohydrates in your pre workout meal. These carbohydrates should have a low to medium GI as this enables slower energy release. Consumption of carbohydrates during exercise can often lead to digestive problems and cramping. Totum Sport prevents the risk of cramp, regulating blood sugar derived from an existing good nutritional regime. Minerals and trace elements help the absorption of carbohydrates. The brain and red blood cells can only use blood glucose as an energy supply. The minerals and trace elements in Totum Sport will therefore help to regulate blood sugar levels so energy utilisation is enhanced. Ensuring you have stabilised blood glucose is important for maintaining concentration, focus and oxygen delivery to the muscles towards the end of training. If you do multiple training sessions in a day, it is important to get the right recovery nutrition after each session. Consuming carbohydrates post training within 60 minutes of finishing is also beneficial if you have a second training session, so that you can perform your best during your next session. How Totum Sport works with Fats Fat stores in the body are too slowly utilised to be a source of energy for explosive activities and are primarily used as an energy reserve in stamina sports. If you are doing a lower intensity training session, a high intake of carbohydrates is not essential as fat can be used as fuel. Totum Sport contains chromium and zinc, which help your body generate energy from fat. Including fats in the diet aids with recovery, restoring energy levels and omega 3 has an anti-inflammatory effect on the body to help repair muscle damage.

22 23 How Totum Sport works with Protein Protein included with each meal provides amino acids for protein synthesis which contribute to muscle and connective tissue repair. Protein consumed in your pre-exercise meal helps stabilise blood sugar and aid satiety. Carbohydrates and fat are primarily used for energy however, when all other energy sources are exhausted, the body will break down its own protein for energy. During exercise muscles develop micro-tears, which stimulates the body to build bigger and stronger muscles in recovery. Amino acids from protein sources help to rebuild muscle tissue. On a heavy training day it is beneficial to consume additional protein in your evening meal, as the body regenerates during sleep. Minerals and amino acids are often absorbed in parallel, which is why taking one sachet of Totum Sport immediately post exercise enhances protein absorption. Muscles are composed of a number of different proteins. Proteins are constructed from 20 amino acids, 8 of which are termed essential amino acids because they cannot be synthesised and must be consumed in the diet. An ideal dietary protein contains the same balance of amino acids as required by the body and is therefore the most efficient source for muscle repair. Animal sources such as meat, dairy and eggs contain all the amino acids. Most individual plant sources are incomplete as they are limited by one or more essential amino acids. It is therefore important to combine protein sources to optimise amino acid intake. It is important to properly fuel for both training sessions and recovery. Depending on the timing of your exercise will also determine what you should consume at which meal times. It is important to plan for performance and recovery so that you optimise your training nutrition.

24 25 The Power of Plankton There are 78 naturally-occurring minerals and trace elements present in your body. Plankton are the most important group of organisms on Earth. They are the foundation of the whole food chain in the oceans and they perform some of the most crucial functions, necessary for the creation of life in the sea and on land. Phytoplankton use sunlight and photosynthesis to produce almost 70% of the Earth s oxygen. At the same time they convert inorganic minerals and trace elements in seawater to bioavailable organic elements. Zooplankton in turn feed on the phytoplankton, which release these organic elements into the sea (just below great plankton blooms) as the most potent source of bioavailable minerals on the planet. Totum Sport is the only 100% natural hydration sports supplement in the world, which contains 78 bioavailable electrolytes in the perfect proportions. Which is why Totum Sport contains: 99No calories 99No additives 99No flavourings 99No sweeteners 99No preservatives 99No nuts, dairy or gluten 99Suitable for vegetarians and vegans CREATED BY 100% PLANKTON

26 27 The Science behind the Performance Hydration is one of the most important aspects for maximising performance, supporting all other factors of speed, strength, stamina, concentration, immunity and recovery. Minerals and trace elements are essential for them all. Totum Sport is created naturally by plankton in great blooms in our oceans; we add nothing to the harvest of electrolytes; no man-made additives, preservatives or harsh chemicals. Totum Sport contains 78 minerals and trace elements in the right proportions for the body to fully absorb and utilise. There are multiple approaches to electrolyte supplementation in elite sport, but these primarily focus on a few electrolytes such as sodium (Na), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg), with some also containing vitamins, a carbohydrate source and artificial sweeteners. These mixtures fail to allow for the importance of the rest of the electrolytes required for effective and efficient hydration. Although macro-minerals such as magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), chlorine (Cl) and sodium (Na) are considered to be of primary importance, trace elements are just as necessary to enable the function of the macro-minerals whilst having their own functions. The interrelation between all the minerals and trace elements explains why supplementing with only a few electrolytes unbalances the homeostasis and compromises the body s ability to utilise the rest of the electrolytes to maximum advantage for hydration. People don t perceive thirst until dehydration has resulted in water losses of

% body weight. Studies show that 2% of body weight equates to a 10% loss in performance. Ensuring an athlete is fully hydrated before training and competing is therefore crucial for maximising performance. Intense exercise results in the loss of water and electrolytes, from the cells as sweat, water vapour via breathing and via the kidneys into the bladder as urine. Measuring the composition and amount of sweat is therefore only an approximation of losses. There is variability in the quantity of sweat loss and the sweat electrolyte composition between subjects (Montain, Cheuvront and Lukaski, 2007). Electrolyte supplementation and hydration may appear more complex than they need be. When the full complement of 78 minerals and trace elements are provided this covers individual variations and ensures hydration is automatically maximised. This makes life easier when professional athletes and managers are looking for optimal hydration. Inadequate water intake during prolonged training sessions and competition can result in several physiological effects, including increased heart rate and raised core body temperature. An increase in core body temperature may be a factor in causing muscle fatigue and reducing nerve function. Drinking water might appear to be the only solution, but without the full cellular complement of minerals and trace elements, the cells and circulation struggle to hold on to water. Drinking just water predisposes the body to further dehydration and a higher risk of cramp, muscle injuries and electrolyte disorders. Complete cellular hydration is the key to enable the cells to function properly. The cells require the correct composition of all minerals and trace elements to hold on to intracellular water and achieve cellular hydration. The distribution of the higher concentration electrolytes, such as sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) are carefully controlled to maintain the electrical potential across the cell wall. Providing just these electrolytes in hydration products has minimal impact on enabling cells to hold on to water for hydration. It therefore comes down to the trace elements. Rosés & Pujol (2006) described how ingesting a sufficient amount of fluid is important to prevent dehydration which negatively impacts performance. Alongside optimizing performance, hydration prior to exercise is important to ensure correct muscle functionality and efficiency. Electrolyte content and balance needs to be at its peak prior to starting to prepare for the physiological effects that occur during exercise. Once you start exercising and intensity progresses, rehydration becomes more urgent. Water and electrolyte losses through different channels increasingly compromises performance and cell functions, which increases injuries. Regular water and electrolyte supplementation together during exercise is therefore essential. Rehydration after exercise is focused on the recovery of the muscles and function of the nervous system. Muscles have three different metabolic pathways for generating energy, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Each energy system impacts how well the muscles function and last. The first pathway is the phosphagen system, which is anaerobic, providing an immediate energy source. There are very limited stores of ATP and creatine phosphate in the muscles, which are used up in seconds. This pathway generates explosive power for short-lived exercise, such as sprinting, where recovery is quick to be ready to sprint again. Cellular hydration and replacing electrolytes can also enhance the recovery time. The second pathway is aerobic glycolysis, requiring oxygen for metabolism. This pathway can be sustained to deliver moderately intense activity as long as the cells are supplied with glucose from glycogen stores in the muscles and liver, generating 38ATP. When RBCs run low on glucose and compromise oxygen delivery, energy metabolism is forced to function as anaerobic glycolysis, generating only 2ATP per glucose molecule. This also produces lactic acid, predisposing muscles to cramp and injury. Athletes that can regulate and maintain blood glucose for longer will delay the switch to anaerobic metabolism and gain advantages in performance and quicker recovery. Electrolytes have important roles in metabolism as cofactors and catalysts, influencing the switch to less efficient pathways. This compromises performance in terms of stamina. Totum Sport delays the switch to less efficient pathways, maximising stamina. Athletes who are training hard often find that the body conserves energy for training and the immune system suffers as a result. When the immune system is depressed, athletes are more prone to circulating infections. Totum Sport supports muscles, nerves and all cells throughout the body.

30 31 Athlete Approved Mica McNeill, GB Bobsleigh Athlete I am the leading female driver for GB Bobsleigh, currently working towards competing at the next Olympic games. A typical training day will start with watching video feedback from the day before so I have my correction fresh in my mind. I walk the track with my coach to mentally prepare to go on the ice. I then warm up and train on the ice which is usually 2-3 heats per day. Either before or after sliding I will have physical training, sprinting or gym work. A typical training session would last 3 hours including warm up and cool down. I have been using Totum Sport for about a year now and have noticed a big difference in my performance levels. I take one sachet of Totum Sport before I start my session and every hour from there until the end of the session. On competition days I take Totum Sport every hour as performing at altitude puts more stress on my body. I struggled at altitude before I started taking Totum Sport and found that I had difficulty sleeping, and my body hurt for the first few days after each training session. Now I hit my first training session hard and feel fresh. I have no muscle cramps, sleep through the night and don t feel dehydrated. In bobsleigh, we travel between mph and I can t afford to lose concentration and being able to maintain my focus for longer has improved my results as we work with tenths and hundredths of a second. Since I started taking Totum Sport I have become Junior World Champion. In elite sport it s so important to do all you can to have a good performance, and making sure my electrolytes are balanced is one thing that gives me that edge. As an athlete, the fact that Totum Sport is approved by Informed Sport makes it safe for me to use.

32 33 Amanda Lightfoot, #1 UK Biathlete I am the number one British Biathlete, which is cross country skiing and target shooting combined, and I am also a serving soldier in the British Army. I m currently working towards my next Olympic Games. My typical day starts with three hours physical training either roller skiing, running, biking, or endurance training, alongside shooting. Then I head back home to stretch and shower. My second session varies but a typical session involves strength training in the gym, followed by an hour and a half of endurance training. On an evening I take 45 minutes to pick up my rifle and conduct dry training, going through my rifle drills to quicken up my setup in the range and my stability. I have been using Totum Sport for a few months and I have to say I have seen huge benefits. It really does boost my training without any sugar highs, and I ve found I have consistent energy throughout my sessions. I m sweating less and I never have a dry mouth, which I tend to find I suffer from with other products. I always feel hydrated throughout my sessions. I ve also noticed that it decreases my recovery time, allowing me to feel recovered for the next session. My focus has improved, which is vital in my sport as I need to have a lot of focus when I come into the range to hit the targets. I have tested Totum Sport during my race formats and have found it really helps me to be able to push myself to the next level. As a biathlete, I train an average of hours each week, meaning it is vital I take care of my nutrition and recovery and Totum Sport helps me to do that. I found that once I started taking Totum Sport, it actually helped in every aspect of my training. To be completely honest, I m wishing I had found this product a long time ago. I now swear by this product daily for my sport, performance and recovery.

34 35 Aimee Willmott, GB Olympic and International Swimmer I am an international swimmer, having represented Team GB in two Olympic games, England in two Commonwealths and have won medals at three European Championships. I m currently training to qualify for the Commonwealths and European Championships. My training sessions start at 7.10am with rolling, stretching and priming for the session ahead. After 20 minutes I dive in and get going after taking my first sachet of Totum Sport. I have around 2 hours of training to tackle, my morning sessions involve plenty of skill work and aerobic swimming. As soon as I get out of the pool I have another sachet of Totum Sport before I hit the gym at My gym sessions are currently heavily structured around occlusion training, activation and coordination exercises for my knee. After recent keyhole surgery, my gym coach has me working really hard on upper body; and I m almost hitting new PB s in the gym every other week. I have a short break before my afternoon session, which begins at 15:30. I have a Totum Sport sachet before I start, but as these sessions are slightly more gruelling I usually top up with another sachet half way through to keep my electrolyte levels high throughout the entire session. Once the session is over I finish with another Totum Sport to aid recovery. Totum Sport has become an integral part of my training. Since taking the product I ve noticed a huge change in my energy levels. Before I started using Totum Sport I used to really struggle with DOMS from my gym sessions, so much so that I could barely swim the next day. Even though I m lifting heavier than ever before, I now find that my muscle soreness is manageable and I put that down to Totum Sport. I ve found my training has been 10x better than ever before, I m seeing a positive effect on my times in the pool with improved performance and I m confident that will convert into podium success this forthcoming season.

Keith Lowis Ross Muray Andy Young I can honestly say that Totum Sport has improved my recovery 1800m Olympian, GB Testimonials Taking Totum Sport has definitely time and overall health immensely. made improvements to my pace I had previously always struggled I train in the mornings and and ability to train. I have found my with DOMS and recovery time, but Totum Sport helps to prepare recovery rate has greatly increased, this is the area where I have seen me for sessions by being more meaning I can get out and train more the biggest improvements in my hydrated and more alert. Not than I ever have before. My energy performance, meaning I could train more frequently. only this, but post session, levels have been so much higher, I don t think I could have Totum Sport helps me to recover quicker so that I can made such big improvements in my time without taking train harder the next day. Lynda Clough Totum Sport and being part of Team Totum. Totum Sport has allowed me to train harder than ever before; 5-6 times per week. Recovery and being able to sustain a pace for longer has been the most noticeable, and as I m getting older, that s a huge bonus! It s made training extremely enjoyable, as I ve discovered there are no limits to what s possible. I m fitter now than I was in my 20 s! Iain Wilson I have found since the early stages of taking Totum Sport whilst training that it does give me a boost and I have felt more energised during my runs. Previously, I would have slowed or flagged but I felt energised and able to maintain my pace. The biggest benefit I have seen is my recovery times. Previously, after a long or hard session I would have been aching and unable to train, but with Totum Sport, even after long runs, I have found I can still go out and run the next day. Peter Moralee Six years ago I had a big knee operation, and the surgeon told me I would never run long distance again. In September 2017, I defied the odds and crossed the finish line of The Great North Run. I knew it would be emotional for me, after the surgery I had spells of depression from personal problems and did little exercise. When my mental health improved, I decided I needed to get fit and eased myself back into running, and in 2016 I was running short distances a few times a week. But 2017 was the year I wanted to up my distance, and I joined Team Totum ahead of the Sunderland 10k and Half Marathon. Having the support of other runners was motivational, and the supplement helped my running and recovery massively. The Totum Sport journey has been amazing. The product itself has helped my running so much. I am recovering quicker after runs, making it possible for me to run more often per week. It used to be 2/3 times a week but I am now up to 4/5 times a week. This has also resulted in me being able to up the distance of my runs. I ve not been ill, not even a cold since starting on Totum Sport. Since starting on Totum Sport in January 2017 my speed has increased and I have upped by distances more regularly. I believe Totum Sport has given me the ability to recover quicker, feel healthier, run longer and more often. It has definitely taken my running to the next level. Richard Chamberlain Totum Sport has helped me with my training over the past few months. Before taking Totum Sport, I started to suffer from really bad leg cramps, after a few runs using Totum Sport the leg cramps stopped and I haven t suffered since. I ve found that I m not taking on as much water, I used to drink a lot while out on runs, but now I ve reduced my intake and feel much more hydrated. Lee Dover I have felt great training and racing throughout the majority of the time using Totum Sport. Even when I suffered with illnesses throughout winter, I felt as though I recovered well and could get back to training quickly. Though the taste can be something you need to get used to, I have grown used to it. My recovery rates following training runs and races also feels quicker, and I am suffering from less cramps and aches. Aly Dixon Olympic Marathon Runner, GB The biggest benefits I have found so far is the improved recovery after a hard workout or a long run. Totum ensures that all electrolytes lost from your body during training are replaced, speeding up recovery and allowing you to train hard in a few days time. Russell Little Since starting to use Totum Sport, I have noticed a significant change in my need to consume water whilst running. With Totum Sport, I have noticed that when doing speed training, I can go harder and longer uphill before the inevitable muscle aches start to set in due to intense exertion. I feel a huge difference in my recovery, after my hard runs or strength training in the gym I used to feel tight and achy for a couple of days, but with the help of Totum Sport I feel much better after only a day, and the intensity of the aches has greatly reduced. Andy Scott Tony Hopkins Totum Sport has helped me to stay hydrated and maintain focus for longer periods than I can usually manage. The PB I got at Sunderland Half, I firmly believe was assisted by a midrace Totum Sport at a time when I was struggling. I will be training for a couple of marathons later in the year, and will definitely be relying on the many benefits of Totum Sport to help me get a new PB and reduce post marathon DOMS. I genuinely believe this product contributed to a much faster recovery from Plantar Fasciitis. I had this on my left foot earlier this year and while taking Totum Sport, I was able to recover after a period of 8-10 weeks. The previous year I had the same problem on my other foot, and that took 6-8 months to recover. The only difference was that I started taking Totum Sport.
