ANDREAS SKARPARIS Dr. Andreas Skarparis, a specialist in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery and surgery of the hand, has gained extensive training in world renowned medical centres and academic institutions. Dr. Andreas Skarparis graduated from the Medical School of University of Athens, Greece. Residency: He specialised in General Surgery and completed his plastic surgery residency at Chaim Medical Centre Tel-Hashomer Hospital in Tel-Aviv, Israel. There he gained a vast experience in all the principles of plastic and reconstructive surgery as in aesthetic surgery, treatment of burns and post burn reconstruction, trauma and reconstructive surgery, hand surgery-microsurgery. Other Degree: He served as a Hand Surgery fellow at St. Luke s Roosevelt Hospital (Columbia University, New York). Part of his fellowship was further specialisation in Congenital Hand Deformities at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Dallas, Texas. He returned to Cyprus in 2001 where he is now practicing plastic and reconstructive surgery and surgery of the hand within the private sector. Cosmetic surgery is the largest percentage of his work. Dr. Skarparis is recognised by his patients, peers and mentors as a compassionate surgeon with artistic vision and excellent technical skills. 8 HAND SURGERY Hand surgery is a subspecialty of medicine which deals with diseases of the hand covering the area of the elbow and below. Hand surgeons have either a Plastic or Orthopedic surgery background. The hand has a complex and delicate anatomy and extra training and surgical expertise is required for surgeons who deal with diseases of the hand. The purpose of hand surgery is the treatment of a broad range of problems that affect the hand, whether they result from trauma or disease processes.
