2 Safe, easy and controlled positioning The ARCH Table Extension, a leg holding traction device that works with any brand of surgical table, facilitates surgery through safe, easy and controlled patient positioning. The ARCH allows more hospitals to economically bring the benefits of procedures such as Anterior Total Hip Replacement (ATHR) to their patients, while carrying on TRUMPF s traditions of improving efficiency, safety and patient care. The intuitive design of the ARCH guarantees easy handling and a short learning curve for surgeons and OR staff. Additional value may be realized through its use in hip and femur fracture cases and hip arthroscopy. The ARCH Table Extension facilitates surgeries, including Anterior Total Hip Replacement. 2

3 The ARCH works with any brand of surgical table without the need for modification. The ARCH is positioned at the foot end of the surgical table. The patient s foot is placed in the ARCH s proprietary traction boot, which can be completely opened to allow easy access and handling. The boot s high-wrap design, padded interior and Velcro straps provide support, stability with a custom fit to help maintain positioning and avoid complications. Once properly supported, the foot and traction boot are connected to and move along the device frame. Optimal leg positioning, including critical positions such as hyperextension, abduction and external rotation, can be achieved with constant, measurable, safe traction and precise reference points. 3

4 Anterior total hip replacement The ARCH and Anterior Total Hip Replacement ATHR can reduce hospital stays and improve recovery times, even for patients in need of bilateral procedures. ATHR requires only a small incision and reduces soft tissue damage. The most important muscles for hip function, the gluteal muscles that attach to the posterior and lateral pelvis and femur, are left undisturbed. The stability of the hip is immediate and there is a reduced risk of dislocation because the dynamic stabilizer of the hip joint (short external rotators) is maintained. Patients are commonly discharged two to three days after the procedure depending on their degree of disability prior to surgery and overall capabilities. The ARCH facilitates ATHR. 4 The durable, washable ARCH traction boot is available in small, medium and large sizes.

5 Positioning The ARCH facilitates extending the hip, lowering the foot toward the floor and rotating the leg. This enables femoral access through the muscle-sparing and less invasive straight anterior approach. Intra-operative imaging The ARCH allows unobstructed intra-operative imaging to control the position of the components, accurate placement, and proper sizing of the implants. Repositioning With the ARCH, the surgeon can reposition the leg to its starting point to allow correct limb-length measurement. Stability testing With the help of the ARCH, the leg and hip can be rotated, extended, lowered and lifted to check for stability intra-operatively. Having performed over 600 anterior hip replacements, the ARCH table has worked extremely well, allowing this technically difficult minimally invasive hip surgery to become more predictable.
