1 PROGRAMME FOR COMPREHENSIVE FELLOWSHIP AT ADITYA JYOT EYE HOSPITAL, MUMBAI. The program is targeted towards ophthalmologists who have completed their basic training, or are practicing, and need to upgrade their skills in all specialties. The course provides them with up-to-date skills to ensure that diagnosis, treatment and surgery are accurate and timely. The eighteen months fellowship program in comprehensive ophthalmology comprises technical instructions in modern methods of eye care, extensive work experience and complete patient care. It prepares candidates for a professional career in comprehensive ophthalmology with the ability to manage an eye care centre independently. The program aims to train ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and management of common diseases of the eye in the areas of clinical evaluation, use of various investigative procedures, medical treatment, surgical intervention and research. The clinical training involves fellows working in rotation through different subspecialties in the outpatient department. They will also be encouraged to evaluate patients' problems in detail, using logic and clinical data to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. Course Objectives At the end of the training program the trainee will: Be capable of managing a secondary center independently, Be proficient in various cataract surgery techniques, and Have a good experience in all the subspecialties

2 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COURSE OPD training in clinical (cornea, retina, glaucoma etc.,) and para clinical (CL, LVA etc.,) specialties Training in OPD procedures (suture removal, glue + BCL etc.,) Structured and supervised training in cataract surgery (Phaco, SICS + IOL) and other minor procedures. Hands-on-teaching for handling electronic medical records (EMR). Exposure to principles of hospital management. Duration of fellowship programs: 18 MONTHS. Course design Consists of clinical rotation in various subspecialties of the institute such that fellows will learn to manage clinics and operate independently and also gain expertise in managing a secondary level center. 1 st term: Clinical rotation: During this period the fellows would be rotated in various subspecialties of: Cornea & refraction 2 months Contact lenses & LVA 1 month Glaucoma 2 months Neuro ophthalmology 1 month 2 nd term: Clinical rotation: Oculoplasty 2 months Pediatric ophthalmology 2 months Retina 2 months.

3 3 rd term: Clinical rotation: Consists of a revision posting during which the fellows will learn to manage clinics and operate independently and gain confidence in the same. Cornea & refraction 1month Glaucoma 1 month Neuro ophthalmology 1 month Oculoplasty 1 month Pediatric ophthalmology 1 month Retina 1 month. Corneal/External Disease and Refractive Surgery Service On the Corneal/External Disease and Refractive Surgery Service, residents receive extensive training in the medical and surgical management of corneal diseases, including eye banking and refractive surgery. Each resident will rotate through this service twice during their training. Contact Lens Service A full-time optometrist supervises the Contact Lens Service. Under the supervision of the optometrist and optician, residents experience fitting uncomplicated and cosmetic-type contact lenses, as well as post cataract surgical patients, infants as young as 2 weeks old, and others. Glaucoma Service The Glaucoma Service provides experience with medical and surgical decision-making in the management of these patients. This initial exposure serves as the introduction to the clinical evaluation of glaucoma patients. The resident learns and performs diagnostic skills needed for the evaluation of anterior segment disease as it pertains to glaucoma. The resident does complete evaluations of new glaucoma patients and provides continuing care to patients returning for follow-up care. The resident gains experience at gonioscopy, optic nerve head examination, kinetic perimetry, and static threshold perimetry. The candidate will get an opportunity to observe Argon laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy, Glaucoma filtering surgery and cataract surgery on patients with glaucoma..

4 Neuro-Ophthalmology Service The Neuro-ophthalmology Service is both an outpatient clinic and an inpatient consultation service. Many patients have complex problems that require extensive evaluation. Each patient is seen by a resident or fellow and staffed by faculty. Patients requiring an in-hospital work-up are admitted to Neurology but are followed by the Neuro-ophthalmology Service. Oculoplastics/Orbital Oncology Service The Oculoplastics Service is involved with the evaluation and management of patients with diseases of their eyelid and adnexa, lacrimal system, and orbit. Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Service All pediatric eye problems other than routine refractions are directed to Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus. Faculty, fellows, residents, and orthoptists examine and evaluate children and adults with motility problems. The candidate will learn to check the visual acuity in children, evaluate a patient with strabismus, force duction tests, orthoptic evavluation and the use of synaptophore. The candidate will get an opportunity to observe pediatric Cataract surgery and all complicated squint surgeries. The candidate will also learn regarding the visual rehabilitation of children after cataract surgery and also learn amblyopia therapy. Retina Serivce The candidate will be exposed to and will be expected to examine various cases of the retinal disorders in the OPD. Diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy, vascular diseases of the retina, AMD, retinal detachment, intraocular inflammations shall be taught and discussed. Handling of diagnostic modalities like Fluorescien angiography, OCT, b scan shall be the responsibility of the fellow. Retinal lasers will be taught and given to do under supervision. Efforts made towards publication will be encouraged. The candidate will have to present a few didiactic lectures on topics during the start of the posting and also a synopsis of what he has learnt at the end of every posting. Fees / renumeration: The candidate has to pay a fees of Rs 1 lakh. Attractive stipend will be offered. Working hours: 8.30am pm. Accommodation: Is not provided.

5 Weekly seminars or lectures for fellows: Weekly seminars, consultant classes, journal clubs, wet labs as necessary before hands on surgery. Community outreach program: Community outreach programs and surgical camps are conducted regularly. Hands on surgical experience: Adequate surgical training is given in all specialties. Graduation ceremony /certification: Certificates will be given at the end of the course.
