2 Breast Lift (Mastopexy) is a procedure that tightens firms and lifts the breasts. Patients who are satisfied with the size of their breasts but not the shape or position are generally patients that benefit from breast lift surgery. Through body changes due to pregnancy, hormones, or weight fluctuation or aging, the breast skin may become stretched, allowing the nipple to fall too low. This can cause a deflated or long look to the breast because there is too much skin from the neck to the nipple. The most pleasing breast has the nipple set at the center of the breast mound. Solely putting in an implant to fill up the sagging skin is not the solution, since it does not shorten or remove the excess skin. If the nipple lies below the crease at the bottom of the breast or if you cannot see any breast skin below the areola while standing in front of a mirror, a Breast Lift is likely preferred. Having sagging breasts can lead to emotional insecurity with your body in fashion, swim wear or intimate settings. These will be explained to you along with the benefits and risks of each during your consultation. The procedure differences primarily relate to the number and length of incisions, which is determined by how much excess skin is present. Our goal is to give you the perfect shaped breast with the fewest number of detectable incisions.

3 THE PROCEDURE Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Houston A Breast Lift is performed in an accredited surgery center under general anesthesia. You will be marked before surgery and given a chance to ask any questions. Breast Lift surgery is more complex than Breast Augmentation surgery, but is usually completed in two hours or less. After the incisions are made, the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are then re-positioned to a natural, more youthful height. If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin at the perimeter, the excess breast skin is removed to compensate the new breast mound. Following the surgery, a wrap or surgical brazier will be placed around the breast, and, depending on each patient s response to surgery, a drain may or may not be placed. You will be in the

Everyone scars differently so exact scarring depends on each person. However, we take care and precision to put the incisions together in a perfect fine line to minimize scarring. Will the scars fade? Yes. The wound healing and scar fading process takes up to one to one-and-a-half years. The fine line incision may turn red and become more pronounced during the maturation process but the goal is fade to nearly undetectable at one to one-and-a-half years post-operation. Will I lose sensation in the areola? Usually, no but is it is always a possibility. The nerves that affect sensation to the

5 nipple should be undisturbed. Will my areolas be smaller? Usually patients seeking a Breast Lift have large areolas. These will be reduced in connection with the procedure to the appropriate or proportional size that looks best on your breast. Can I still have mammograms? Yes. With breast reductions or lifts, it is generally recommended that you get a new baseline mammogram six months after the procedure. Can I breast feed after a Breast Lift? In general, the architecture of the native breast (glands, ducts and nipple) should not be disturbed and should not affect your ability to breast feed. However, your specific case should be discussed at your consultation. Can I wear a brazier afterwards? Yes. You will be placed in a support wrap after surgery. You can wear a soft support bra without wire after your first post-operative appointment and until your incisions are healed. After that, any bra is acceptable.
