Mondays 8:30am to 10:30am March 26 to June 11 Pain Management and Rehabilitation 2 (TCM) Students learn to differentiate TCM patterns for pain located in various parts of the body including the hip, low-back, hand, elbow, shoulder and the neck. Appropriate acupuncture point combinations for each pattern diagnosis are presented and discussed. This course will include creation of a resume, a cover letter and interview skills. Osteoporosis, prostate problems and incontinence are among the conditions that will be discussed. It's principles as a TCM treatment modality are also presented and discussed. (1 credit) Pre-requisite: Physiology 5 Wednesdays 8:30am 10:30am March 28 to June 13 Communications (RMT/TCM/NHP/CEU) Learn the key characteristics for day-to-day communications with clients and understand the personal and client needs. Wednesdays 8:30am 10:30am March 28 to June 13 Acupuncture Patient Study Clinic (TCM) Each student follows the same patient for 9 weeks of treatments to monitor progress. Students learn how to apply their TCM knowledge of diagnosis and treatments and write a progress report. (1 credit) Pre-requisite: Theory Foundations 1, Meridian Theory 1, Assessment and Diagnosis 1, Clean Needle Techniques, Depths and Angles, Point Location 1-2, Point Functions 1-2, Techniques of Acupuncture 1-2 Wednesdays 8:30am 10:30am March 28 to June 13 Physiology 7 (RMT, TCM) Students continue to study the finer aspects of the nervous system. This course also takes an in-depth look into the muscular system, including a study of skeletal and smooth muscle, and the cardiovascular system. (2 credits) Pre-requisite: Massage Techniques 1-4, Anatomy & Physiology 4 Wednesdays 1:15pm 5:15pm March 28 to June 13 Client Assessment 1 (RMT) An introduction to clinical assessment including case histories, client-interview, as well as both visual and physical examination techniques. Wednesdays 1:15pm 3:15pm March 28 to June 13 Colour Therapy (NHP/CEU) Learn about the characteristics and benefits from the use of colour light to help the body heal or maintain its health balance. 11 Wednesdays continue TCM Materia Medica 2 (TCMP) Students learn about individual TCM herbs and their uses. Topics presented in this course include herbs that resolve toxicity, downward draining herbs, and herbs that drain dampness. (1 credit) No pre-requisite Wednesdays 6:00pm 8:00pm March 28 to June 13 Nutrition 1 (NHP/CEU) An overview of both the digestive process and individual essential nutrients (vitamins, minerals, amino acids and water). Wednesdays 8:00pm 10:00pm April 4 to June 13 Wednesdays & Thursdays Principles of Treatments & Advanced Techniques 5-8 (RMT) Learn to treat a variety of chronic conditions using massage therapy. (4 credits) Pre-requisite: Principles of Treatments/Advanced Techniques 1-4 Wednesdays 1:15pm 5:15pm & Thursdays 8:30am 12:30pm March 28 to June 14 Terminology 1 (RMT/NHP/CEU) The use of roots, prefixes, suffixes, plurals and opposites. Wednesdays 3:15pm 5:15pm & Thursdays 8:30am 10:30am April 4 to May 3 Terminology 2 (RMT/NHP/CEU) Significant focus is placed on the understanding, writing and pronouncing of medical terms, as they relate to Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology. 12 Thursdays TCM Point Functions 2 (TCM) Students further evolve their knowledge of acupuncture point functions and combinations. (1 credit) Pre-requisite: Point Location 2 Thursdays 10:30am 12:30pm March 29 to June 14 Hydrotherapy and Self Care for the RMT (RMT/NHP) The majority of this course covers hydrotherapy theory with emphasis on practical hydrotherapy applications in both a clinical and self care context. (2 credits) Pre-requisite: Anatomy/Physiology 1-4, Massage Techniques 1-4 Thursdays 1:15pm 5:15pm March 29 to June 14 TCM Herbal Preparations (TCMP) This class is a theory and hands on preparation lab, where students learn about different ways of preparing herbs and herbal remedies with emphasis on how preparation methods are changing properties of each herb. (1 credit) No pre-requisite Thursdays 1:15pm 3:15pm March 29 to June 14 TCM Materia Medica 1 (TCMP) Students are introduced to herbal properties and classification, taste and the concept of entering specific channels as well as techniques of combining herbs. Topics presented in class include herbs for relieving superficial syndrome and herbs for clearing heat. Thursdays 3:15pm 5:15pm March 29 to June 14 TCM Meridian Theory 2 (TCM/CEU) This course reviews the 12 regular meridians and the 8 extraordinary meridians and provides detailed descriptions of the 12 divergent channels, the 15 collaterals, the 12 muscular regions and the 12 cutaneous regions.
