3 2017 SPORTS SYMPOSIUM The 2017 LPTA Sports Medicine Symposium will educate the participant in the latest surgical and conservative treatment options available, evaluation techniques, evidence treatments, and understand the physician s expectation for athletes in the sports medicine field. Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participants should be able to: - Understand the principles between anterior approach compared to traditional approach with considerations toward total hip replacement - Described the biomechanics of the foot and influence on the knee and hip - Described the conservative and surgical treatments for the cervical spine - Understand and demonstrate treatment techniques of Athletes with cervical pain - Demonstrated examination techniques of the shoulder, elbow and wrist - Described surgical techniques and rehabilitation principles for: SLAP, Bankart, Rotator Cuff Repair, Instability of the Shoulder, and Impingement syndrome - Described surgical techniques and rehabilitation principles for: Tommy John s injuries, medial and lateral collateral ligament injuries, fractures of the olecranon and radial head - Described surgical techniques and rehabilitation principles for: carpal tunnel, fractures of the wrist and fingers - Demonstrate the evaluation techniques for Neck Injuries and Shoulder dislocations - Describe considerations for safe return-to-play of the Athlete - Develop strength and conditioning program for the recovering athlete - Develop a treatment plan for an athlete following shoulder surgery - Develop a treatment plan for an athlete following elbow surgery - Described alternative treatments for athletes with cervical injuries The following is need for ATC CEU hours Goals: Continuing Education goals for Certified Athletic Trainers 1. Give Louisiana professionals current information and access to new training and sports medical techniques and products. 2. To learn evaluation techniques as used by physicians for better problem solving 3. To described current surgical procedures of the cervical spine, shoulder, elbow, and wrist 4. To learn outcome expectation from physicians following surgery 5. To learn treatment options for: cervical spine, shoulders, elbow and wrist 6. To identify and describe different treatment options when treating Athlete s with Concussions Target Audience: The Sports Symposium will attract a wide range of educated professional. Target participants are Physicians, Physician Assistants, Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapist, and other sports related specialist. Content falls within the following domains: Clinical Evaluation, Treatment, Rehabilitation/Reconditioning

4 Contact Hours Sports Symposium 14 hours (3 hours on Friday, 7.5 hours on Saturday and 3.5 hours on Sunday) Ethics Course 2 hours LPTB Approved Provider GENERAL INFORMATION Louisiana Physical Therapy Association is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. Eligibility Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Athletic Trainers, Physicians/PAs/Other Licensed, PT Students and PTA Students. Registration Registration available online at Register early to receive the lower early bird registration rate. Enclose all registration fees with your form. Cancellations may be made through February 27, 2017 without penalty. After February 27, 2017 a $50.00 cancellation fee will apply up to 48 hours prior to the Meeting, after which all fees are forfeited. Exhibit Hall only passes do not include drink tickets for the Welcome Reception or a luncheon ticket. Drink tickets can be purchased at the registration desk. Provisions will be made for unregistered members to attend the business meeting, although lunch on Saturday will be served only to registrants and to those who purchase a luncheon ticket. Scheduled Events Welcome Reception: The Welcome Reception will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the exhibit hall. Please come and take some time to visit with the vendors. Business Meeting and Lunch: The Business Meeting and Luncheon will be held on Saturday from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm. The purpose of this meeting is to inform the membership of LPTA s accomplishments and future plans, to conduct LPTA member-driven business, and to provide APTA updates. Sippin with the SSIG: Join us at the hotel bar for Sippin with the SSIG, Friday evening after the Welcome Reception! This event is free to all students and a minimum $10 donation for all other attendees. PAC Social: Who is ready for a fun Saturday night? Join us for LPTA s PAC Social Saturday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm! A minimum donation of $25 for students and $50 from all other attendees is required to attend. Purchase your ticket today! Dress Attire To help promote the Physical Therapy community as a doctoring profession and as independent practitioners, we are asking all attendees to dress in business casual attire for this weekend courses. Suggested attire would include: collared shirts, blouses, casual pants or jeans in good condition with appropriate shoes or sandals. T-shirts, shorts, scrubs and flip flops are discouraged.
