9 Concussions According to the CDC: A concussion is a type of trauma7c brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, stretching and damaging the brain cells and crea7ng chemical changes in the brain. In soccer, concussions most commonly occur by the following contacts: Ø Head to Head Ø Head to Elbow Ø Head to Ground Ø Head to Goal Post Head to Ball concussions rarely happen

10 Concussions From the CDC Website Signs Observed: Can t recall events prior to or after a hit or fall. Appears dazed or stunned. Forgets an instruction, is confused about an assignment or position, or is unsure of the game, score, or opponent. Moves clumsily. Answers questions slowly. Loses consciousness (even briefly). Shows mood, behavior, or personality changes. Symptoms Reported Headache or pressure in head. Nausea or vomiting. Balance problems or dizziness, or double or blurry vision. Bothered by light or noise. Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy. Confusion, or concentration or memory problems. Just not feeling right, or feeling down.

11 Concussions From the CDC Website For more information: Action Plan When in doubt, sit them out Seek medical attention Maryland Law: Any athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion during practice or play must be promptly removed from the game. The athlete may not return to play until he or she has been cleared by a licensed health care professional trained in the management of concussions.

20 Logistics 108 boys and 102 girls were selected from tryouts Training sessions Playday in June Players have an opportunity to attend Region I ID camp All selected players have been assigned to training locations

22 Logistics Ten Monday night 90 minute training sessions beginning March 27th Focus is on technical training and small group tactics Each site and gender will have a head coach and two assistant coaches Goalkeepers will receive specific GK training every week at their regularly scheduled training location and time
