1 The women s health physiotherapy outpatient team treats a variety of conditions affecting women: chronic pelvic pain urinary incontinence birth-related perineal trauma antenatal and postnatal musculoskeletal issues breast cancer and oncology rehabilitation We also offer an obstetric physiotherapy service including antenatal and postnatal treatment. The team is comprised of five experienced senior physiotherapists who have all undertaken specialist post-graduate training. Each therapist has developed their own area of expertise, so we can tailor your treatment to your individual needs. We work closely with consultants and are experienced in managing complex problems. While you may come to us through your GP or a hospital consultant, we also welcome self referrals. We work collaboratively across the gynaecology service, as well as with the pain clinic and oncology, providing a holistic treatment package. Page 1
2 Treatments Treatments offered include: manual therapy directed exercise programmes core stability/pilates hydrotherapy biofeedback muscle stimulation acupuncture TENS ultrasound Page 2
3 Pelvic floor rehabilitation We offer specialist services for: urinary incontinence stress urinary incontinence urgency urge incontinence mixed incontinence pelvic organ prolapse urinary and bowel symptoms following childbirth perineal dysfunction associated with dyspareunia (pain during intercourse) or vulvodynia (pain in the vulva) chronic pelvic pain management To assess the best options for you, we will first examine you carefully, including an internal examination. We will then prescribe a set of pelvic floor exercises, tailored to address your specific problems. We may also prescribe other options, including pelvic floor stimulation, biofeedback, defecation dynamics and bladder training. Because of our close working with other departments eg urogynaecology, we are able to refer you to a consultant when needed, for example, if your symptoms have not improved after three months. Page 3
