1 CURRICULUM VITAE Carien Sabey Occupational Therapist Tel: Address: Newark Steading, Crocketford, Dumfries, DG2 8QT PROFILE I have 10 years post graduate experience (Graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, 2006). I ve completed various post-graduate courses to improve my knowledge and skills. I m currently in the process of completing my Sensory Integration Advanced Practitioners course which is counting towards my Masters degree (Ulster University). In 2006 I presented a research study on the prevalence of depression in 17 year olds at the POTS Symposium in South Africa. From I worked in South Africa in a rural community with adults and children with various conditions and difficulties. With limited resources, it greatly improved my ability to improvise and be creative. In 2008 I started working in the UK. I worked with adults in an acute setting and within their homes, providing rehabilitation, moving and handling solutions, and home adaptations and aids. I also worked within a vocational rehabilitation setting. In 2008 I started working in Bury St Edmunds as a paediatric Occupational Therapist (OT) and continued in this capacity when I moved to Dumfries, Scotland in I ve since 2010 worked with both children and adults, both in an acute setting and at home. I have work experience in both the NHS and Private sector. In my role as an Occupational Therapist I ve provided intervention, advice, and training; and advocated for those I represent. I ve delegated work and provided supervision and training to junior staff as well as students on practical placements. A combination of clinical skills, experience and compassion enables me to provide a service that is unique to each individual, allowing the child, young person, or adult to address those difficulties or areas that are important to them. In the therapy I provide, there is a strong emphasis on working both with children and the significant adults in their lives to foster an environment that will optimize learning, growth and development. Occupational Therapist, Band 6 Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary ( ) -To provide the necessary skills and expertise to ensure high quality, effective occupational therapy for patients with neurological impairments, orthopaedic conditions, elderly, surgical needs, in palliative care and respiratory dysfunction. - To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/patient-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions. - Provide access visits where indicated to allow successful discharge. Specialist Children s Occupational Therapist, Band 6 Child Development Centre, Dumfries ( ) -Plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate a high quality specialist paediatric occupational therapy service in Dumfries and Galloway. - To participate in the development of the service and ensure best practice in partnership with colleagues in children s services. - Manage a highly specialist paediatric occupational therapy service including assessment, diagnosis, and advice for professionals and parents for children (0-18 years) referred to the Women and Children s Therapy Service. - Working as a lone practitioner in the community and domiciliary settings. - Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary / agency teams to provide a coordinated and integrated approach to patient care, e.g. health education, social services, voluntary sector, families.
