1 Pauline Mary Christmas PhD MSc MCSP SRP PROFILE: Consultant physiotherapist for the management of spasticity in children at Birmingham Community NHS FoundationTrust. Visiting consultant physiotherapist for the Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments (SCCMI) Craighalbert Centre, Cumbernauld, Scotland, PARTICULAR STRENGTHS: Clinical specialist; only physiotherapist to date appointed nationally within the NHS to a consultant level in this specialty Patient centred; physiotherapist specialising in the treatment of children with cerebral palsy, for over thirty years working in both the hospital and community setting Lecturing; on behalf of the Bobath centre she has led Introductory Paediatric Bobath courses across the country on the treatment and management of cerebral palsy Education; completed a PhD the University of Birmingham in 2016 (degree congregation July 2016). This was based on a randomised controlled trial investigating the efficacy of constraint induced movement therapy in the pre-school child with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Undertook a research master s degree at the University of Birmingham in 2002 and her dissertation was based on the development of a new tool for the early identification of cerebral palsy. Creative and innovative; created courses for therapists including an Introductory Neuro-Developmental (NDT) course to the Treatment and Management of Children with Cerebral Palsy ACHIEVEMENTS: Pauline is currently working as a consultant physiotherapist for the management of spasticity in children at Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust. In 2009 Pauline won a clinical doctorate research award of over 200,000 to undertake a PhD which she is doing at the University of Birmingham. The research project is comparing two methods of constraint induced movement therapy for children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Pauline has worked as a physiotherapist specialising in the treatment of children with cerebral palsy, for over twenty-five years and has worked both in the hospital setting and in the community.
