3 THE ENNEAGRAM TYPING INSTRUMENT Helping You Discover You ENNEAGRAM TYPING DIRECTIONS Preparatory Reflective Questions Reflect on yourself and how you ve been in your life both in your personal and work life for a moment. The more honest you are about how you truly are in your life (versus what you d like to be), the easier and more accurately you ll be able to identify the Enneagram Type that resonates most for you. As you read the following Nine personality styles, ask yourself these questions: 1. Which one/s do I most resonate with? Which one/s feel like me? 2. How would people who know me well describe me? How do they experience me? Which of the personality Styles below would they choose? Now Read the following 9 Enneagram Personality Style characteristics and traits. Each is uniquely different, so read each as a composite reflecting a particular personality style. Do your best to get a feel for that type of person. Avoid selecting and dissecting out isolated traits. Select the top two or three Styles with which you identify the most and rank them in order of 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd. Ultimately, we ll be narrowing down to one Enneagram Style that you identify with the most. If a particular Style stands out far ahead of the others as, This is me! then mark it as such. We ll still discuss your 2 nd and 3 rd choices to give you further insight. There are well-founded reasons why you selected the ones you did. Should you get stumped, think back to your younger years, late teens and 20s, and what you were like then. Next, we ll briefly discuss your selections to help clarify and understand your choice/s so you can move forward and apply this in useful and meaningful ways. I look forward to talking with you and exploring your selections. Becky

4 ENNEAGRAM Style One Reformer Perfectionist Integrity is doing the right thing when no one can see you. Style One individuals seek a perfect world that respects all people and life. To achieve this, they focus on the following. They Seek to be virtuous, responsible, and to protect themselves against fault and blame Seek to do what s good, right, and perfect Expect high standards of behavior of themselves and of others Place work first and set aside desires, spontaneity, play and expressiveness until work is completed Value reliability, completeness, conscientiousness, and hard work Are motivated by a sense of high Integrity and dedication to their ideals it s Paramount Make decisions and arrive at solutions from practical, discerning, objective, and analytical approaches Are continually focused on how to make themselves and the world a better place. Seek a perfect world and diligently work to improve themselves and others Set clear goals and act on them Find it hard to ignore what isn t done correctly Are highly responsible and follow through on their commitments, small to large, doing what they say they will do Bring elements of consistency, stability and structure to situations

5 Style Two Helper Giver Happiness is in your ability to love others. Style Two individuals want to be liked, loved, and maintain relationships that are important to them. To achieve this, they focus on the following Pleasing others in hopes of eliciting affection and love consciously or unconsciously Winning people over to ultimately gain acknowledgement, and the attention of others, which boosts their sense of value and worth Expressing genuine empathy, care for others, and sensitivity to the feelings of others Presenting themselves as cheerful, optimistic, warm and friendly Being a good mentor of others Helping people, especially those in emotional pain. They can feel frustrated when they want to do more for others than that which is wanted. Placing the needs of others ahead of taking care of their own needs Being skilled at diplomacy and building rapport -- delivering hard messages and positive communication Genuinely listening, empathizing, and meeting the needs of others Being driven, being extremely competent, and doing things well with a high level of energy Nurturing and developing caring relationships Saying yes readily. They can say no as well, when they recognize their own need for boundaries.

6 Style Three Achiever Performer Motivator I enjoy hard work; I love setting goals and achieving them. Style Three is a person who seeks and is motivated by achieving goals, being successful, and attracting the admiration and respect of others for what they ve accomplished. They focus on. Maintaining an image of success, bringing value to the task at hand, and being appreciated by others for doing so Being appreciated for the hard work and the effort they put forth Being accepted and being perceived as valuable Accomplishing whatever they set their minds to Setting and achieving goals as they work at a busy pace Achieving, accomplishing, and doing things finding it hard to sit and relax Putting aside feelings and emotions for the sake of progress and reaching the goal Accomplishments, which can result in losing connection with their deeper feelings Competence, being on top of everything, and being highly effective Working hard to assure success for themselves, their teams, or any group of which they are a part Being the best at what they do Putting their best forward and shining brightly at all times. Resonate with Being good at making love to the camera.

7 Style Four Individualist Aesthete Vision is the ability to see potential in what others overlook. Style Four is a person who seeks deep, meaningful connections, to express themselves in very real ways, and to create a more beautiful, sensitive, original, and authentic world. They focus on and value Individuality Place a high premium on individuality for themselves, others, ideas, approaches, strategies, innovation, thinking, and creativity Having a large capacity to appreciate the rich world of emotions, including sorrow, disappointment, unhappiness -- emotions that the Four recognizes being part of real life Holding others emotions with great respect and sensitivity A natural and sensitive appreciation of beauty and the aesthetic senses of life Bringing unique creativity to processes, strategies and solutions A balance of outwardly expressing inventive and intuitive creativity while maintaining an internal focus of listening to their own internal compass Creating environments of meaning and purpose that inspire the best in each individual Being Introspective, intuitive, and compassionate Creating deep interpersonal connections that provide meaning to life Creative excellence, aesthetically, strategically, and successfully Originality of style and artistic expression in how they present themselves personally and through their living/working environments

8 Style Five Investigator Observer Thinker Understanding is a kind of ecstasy. -Carl Sagan Style Five is a person who wants an understandable, sensible world. They seek to deeply know and objectively learn about the nature, workings, and nuances of how things function and fit together in life. They... Orient to the inner world more than the outer world Retreat into the world of thinking, ideas, and contemplation Love pursuing knowledge -- a comfortable and secure place Find that intense emotions are a less comfortable area Readily observe what s going on around them and then slip inside to understand what they perceive Rest and recharge away from the demands of others, which is important for restoring their energy to re-engage the world Are analytical thinkers and astutely perceptive Are highly skilled at being objective, clear, calm, and rational Great at dealing with crisis Are sensitive to intrusions Place importance on boundaries and holding confidences Value healthy separation an ongoing balance between engaging and disengaging Offer wise, thoughtful council and the ability to remain calm in intense situations

9 Style Six Loyalist Questioner Loyal Skeptic In the best of time, security has never been more than temporary and apparent. -Alan Watts Style Six is a person who values loyalty, faithfulness, and honorably keeping commitments. They want to be safe and to help the world be a more safe, trustworthy place for all. They Seek to feel secure, safe, and worry-free Naturally hone in on potential threats and instinctively create solutions and actions to address and/or head off the perceived threat Experience doubt and concerns about authority, which is connected to the feeling of being potentially overrun or powerless Can have a sense of being overpowered at times or feel small compared to the world Seek to find comfort in their own strength and authority and move beyond self-doubt See through pretenses and hidden agendas Connect to their own inner authority and voice when they develop faith and trust in themselves Have a strong analytical mind Are good strategists, trouble-shooters, and problem-solvers Are loyal in personal and professional relationships Believe in keeping their word and seek that from others

10 Style Seven Enthusiast - Visionary Epicure Man is free at the moment he wishes to be. -Voltaire Style Seven is a person who wants to be happy, and to have the world be a more uplifting, pleasant place to be. They value joy, limitless possibilities, and the freedom to live a life filled with a wide variety of wonderful moments. They Seek pleasure and freedom from limitations Have an I want to do it all outlook -- a common Seven refrain Enliven themselves and live life with an upbeat, light energy Have a mind that naturally grasps the big picture and synthesizes seemingly unconnected ideas, concepts, and knowledge Live life enthusiastically with exceedingly positive idealism, youthfulness, and natural effervescence Are innovative, adventurous, imaginative, and fun-loving and bring these energies to whatever they do Avoid painful, unpleasant feelings Possess a wonderment about all aspects of life Have a keen eye for the potential that lies within people, moments, opportunities, ideas, and life itself Are imaginative, quick-thinking, and multi-taskers Are innovative, curious, and flexible

11 Style Eight Challenger - Leader Protector A true friend advises readily, adventures boldly, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably. William Penn Style Eight is a person who appreciates power and values being strong, independent, and assertive. They want a fair and just world to live in for themselves and others. They Go for the gusto with an all-or-nothing approach to life and work Love a challenge and seek out various ways to live life to the fullest Are a force behind moving ideas into reality Drive projects forward and fearlessly take on new challenges they make things happen Transmute weakness and vulnerability into strength and power Protect the weak, rebel against restrictive authority, and go up against limitations and conventions Come by strength and power naturally, and when combined with heartfelt humanness, they are a compelling force Hold the energy and desire for all of us to show up, be bold, and go for it! Are straight-forward a what you see is what you get individual Move forward, overcoming obstacles and challenges to continue making progress Trust authority if/when the authority has proven themselves to be trustworthy

They desire a conflict-free world.
