1 Year 9 History From September 2019, Year 9 students will spend their first term studying a unit on Post World War 2 world history. This will include topics such as- The legacy of the Holocaust for Human Rights The Swinging Sixties The rise of terrorism The legacy of 9/11 Following on from this, we teach the first unit of the Edexcel GCSE History specification so that all students have a taste of what GCSE History has to offer. The unit is a Thematic Study of Crime and Punishment from c.1000ad to This involves a study of how approaches to crime prevention and punishment have changed over the last millennium and includes focus studies on- Changes to the law made the Normans The range of punishments in the medieval period The Gunpowder Plot and the treatment of the suspects involved The introduction of the Police force Jack the Ripper Crime in the Twentieth Century

(AO1/AO2) Homework There are fortnightly homework tasks on Firefly VLE for this unit Some tasks are designed to be flip learning tasks for students and so it is important that they are set at the appropriate time. Some tasks are designed to enhance learning from lessons. With a lot of content to be covered, it is essential that students do further work in their own time to improve depth of knowledge for this unit British Values- Pupils are able to develop their awareness of how people should have freedom to practise religious beliefs, to promote tolerance and acceptance for all religions and people in Britain who contribute to our British culture. (Lessons CRI 01, 02, 08, 10, 13, ) We also enable our pupils to explore why extremist views do not fit in to our British democratic views and the detrimental impact that this can have both on our society and on a global basis. (Lessons CRI 12, 16, 17)

Law and order in the post-norman medieval period What role did the church play in Crime and Punishment? (case study covering several lessons) Why was trial by ordeal ended?
