Questions 1- What is and what it means tennis paradox? 2- What is the mental training? 3- What are mental skills? 4- How to train mental skills?
Questions 5- How to make a mental training plan? 6- Who has to take care of player s mental training? The player s coach or a psychologist? 7- How will be the tennis coach (sport coach) of the future? 8- The human person comes before the athlete?

General remarks : 1)Which one of the three training elements (physical, tehcnical, mental) is more important for the peak performance and by which percentage?
THE TENNIS PARADOX Physical training 30 % Mental training 42 % Technical training 28 % Few years ago nobody trained mental skills. During the last years someone started to train it.
Sport psychology was born in the 1960 s of last century. Prejudice until then: mental skills are inborn.
Mark Spitz, after winning his 7 gold medals : " AT THIS LEVEL OF SPECIALIZATION THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINNING AND LOOSING IS 99% MENTAL" Seems an exagerations??
In the famous book GOLF MY WAY, Jack Nicklaus says: Mental Preparation is the most difficult element to be trained to achive the Peak Performance
Djokovic said in 2011: I won because my Mental Stability changed. The emotions during the Match are everywhere, but now I can come back to the game faster and easier than before.

Martens unsettles us by saying that: one of the goal of psychology is to help normal athletes to become psychologically higher through mental training Is this too much?? He was thinking to NEW ATHLETE.
Vealey (1988 ) proposes a holistic approach to training: You grow as an athlete, while also growing as a person... The man before the athlete.
Which are the mental skills? Vealey classifies mental skills (one of the various classifications) A)basic skills: volition, awareness, confidence B)performance skills: arousal, concentration C)facilitating skills: interpersonal skills, lifestyle management.
I would add: self talking, goal setting, imaginative skills (imagery) emotion control peak performance (flow) stress management and anxiety control.

Mental skills work as technical skills
Before starting the mental training plan and applying the techniques, we have to take into consideration: 1)the difference between the feeling and thinking of the different athletes 2)life values, personal needs, habits of each individual athlete
PERSONALIZED PLANS! SEVEN STEPS TO PEAK PERFORMANCE 1 relaxation performance profile 2 stress control 3 thought control 4 self-regulation 5 vmbr (visual..) 6 concentration 7 energy control
Relaxation In a protected situation (Calderaro,Jacobson,Schultz) Music could be an extra option In even unprotected situations Even with open eyes and on the court
AROUSAL P Yerkes and Dodson s Law A L

Who has to take care of player s mental training? The player s coach or a psychologist? The COACH in my opinion This kind of coach has to improve his sport psychology knowledge
TO BE A GOOD AND NEW COACH The coach should: Evaluate the player s personality and remember that each player is unique. Improve his/her empathy to better understand the player Improve his/her ability to listen to Discover a flexible teaching method (the teacher teaches and the teacher learns) WIN WIN, two way teaching
Remain neutral in the important life decisions of the player Remember all the finer detailes that must be done in coaching (check list) the rules of ATP, ITF, WTA Remember the whole person before the athlet
PERFORMANCE The greater performance PERSONAL GROWTH The greater personal growth THE BEATIFUL COACHING (The Beauty s Coaching) Coaching is the art of managing and scientifically, the tennis player s training always with empathy, inside and outside of the court, to reach the goal of his best performance and also is the art of managing a positive relationships with the tennis player to develop his human growth
Music Therapy Goal : Psych up : from sadness to happiness. From low to high mental energy. 1) Relaxation 2) ISO principle Music Track (sadness) 3) Time to absorb the music 4) Intermediate Music Track 5) Time to absorb the music 6) Music Track (happiness)

The Coach is like an artist
The Goal of the NEW COACHING is to build THE NEW ATHLETE
The NEW ATHLETE Learned, Masterly, spends a lot of time for his personal grow Completly free and he want to learn every day more. He rejects social climbing, He is humble (rejects the ammiration of the masses) He is charismatic He follows his human moral
The NEW ATHLETE The NEW MAN 1. He is empathic, Human, Tollerant 2. Idealist 3. He rejects the nihilism 4. Accept the sacrifices 5. Generous to others 6. He accepts the diversity Sensitive towards the poors 7. Full of justice and truth and he is very active in this direction
KALOS KAI AGATHOS EMPATHIC AND HUMAN EMPATIČNI IN ČLOVEŠKI
PERSONALIZED PLAN OF MENTAL TRAINING FOR AN HIGH LEVEL TENNIS PLAYER
The sporting psychology was born in the 60s of last century. Prejudice until then: mental skills are inborn
Mark Spitz, after winning his 7 gold medals " AT THIS LEVEL OF SPECIALIZATION the difference between winning and loosing is 99% mental" exageration?
In the famous book GOLF MY WAY, Jack Nicklaus says that the mental preparation is the most difficult element to be trained for getting the Peak performance
Martens becomes unbalanced and says that one of the tasks of psychology is helping normal athletes to get psychologically higher by the mental training is it exaggerated? new athlete!!

I would add: self talking, goal setting, imaginative skills (imagery ), emotions control, peak performance(flow), stress management and control of anxiety.
Mental skills work as technical ones.
Before stating a mental training plan and apply techniques we have to take into consideration: 1)subjective differences in feeling and thinking of athletes 2 )life values, needs, habits of athletes thus...
PERSONALIZED PLANS!
Multimodal Plan of Mental Training SEVEN STEPS TO PEAK PERFORMANCE (R.Swinn adapted) Drafted from FIVE STEPS STRATEGY by Singer and from Visual motor behavior rehearsal (R.Swinn) (visual and motor ripetition of behaviour)
SEVEN STEPS TO PEACK PERFORMANCE 1 relaxing performance profile 2 stress control 3 thoughts control 4 self-regulation 5 vmbr (visual..) 6 concentraion 7 energy control
Relaxing In a protected situation (Calderaro,Jacobson,Schultz) In even unprotected situations Even with open eyes and on the court
Second step: stress control, progressiv desensitization Call to recognizing of stress symptoms before, during and after the match (both body symptoms and cognitive) Stress : body aspect (tensions, rigidity, sweats, tachycardias) cognitive aspect (doubts, fears, inability to concentrate). ANXIETY SCALE
Second step: Stress control Anxiety scale 100 break balls 90 tie break 80 Not feeling ready-slam 70 playing against a German 50 earth-too hot 40 playing against a lefthanded 30 playing with lights 20 wind
third step: Thoughts control Writing all most frequent negative thoughts down. Use of negative thoughts in a positive way-facing them, not avoiding them (break balls)-searching solutions (self talk). Control of negative thoughts 1) stating the cause and trying to remove it (..movement and body language in the break balls) 2)the stop exercise in relaxing (hurry- slow motion back)
Most frequent negative thoughts: I m inadequate for a slam. When I get to break point it s a point for the other one. I m afraid to play against another German, I wet my pants in fear. I ve got the most disgusting average in tie breaks. With left-handed I play 50% of my potential. With my usual hurry in break balls and tie breks. I hate the word break
forth step: SELF-REGULATION it aims to develop in the athlete a feeling of being completely comfortablemira action:
Action for improving self-regulation To be retrieved positive feelings of victory, which accompained the best previous performances the best performance To be re-lived in the details and in a relaxed state the feeling of victory (Flow), trying to create the same favorable emotional atmosphere of victory. to be carefully analized behaviours, thoughts, the normal evolution of the event but also.unexpected changes in the evento To be searched the optimal psychological activation (Arousal)
How it work for getting the arousal Determination of the arousal state that the athlete links to his best performance. Correction of the activation level if it doesn t match to the best one: down techniques (momories of relaxing experiences, short relaxing) Up techniques (energizing activities, rapid and repeated muscle twitchings, sudden movements, rapid movements, rapid shift of attention, reaction to 1 ore more stimulations, sudden eyeballs movement)
Fifth step:vmbr Deeper relaxing compared to the first step (centering:inside attention, inside multysensory visualization using the kinesthetic channel, music, musictherapy, camera, goal blackboard) Relax and multy-sensory using all the three channels.
Fifth step:vmbr He used to visualize 3 time a week alternatively neutral relaxing scenes and high competitive scenes concerning one or more peak performance intensified Vmbr during the previous days (doha and australian open) more specific goals and match oriented to be put on the blackboard of goals.removal of muscle tension areas.
Sixth step: concentration It s the capability of focusing the attention on a task for a period of time without getting disturbed by not relevant external and internal stimulations. Mental flexibility.
seventh step: ENERGY CONTROL The athlete has to get the awarness of his body energy and the capability of using it completely 1) energy in a relaxed status (breath, heartbeat, heat, pins and needles) 2)visualizations of situations with great energy performance properly expressed (EGOGRAMS) 3)energy directed to the performance..(example visualization. Light beam released in the direction of motion..forehand and service) 4) practical energy on the court (open breath, vocalizations, vibrational energy)
EGOGRAMS the 5 me (J.Dusay) the 5 me and a tennis match and of ANOTHER ONE (Castellani) Regulatory parent Emotional parent Adult Free child Adapted child.it S A DIFFERENT WAY OF READING A MATCH FROM THE ENERGY POINT OF VIEW. (G+A+B)f=C FORMULA OF PSYCHIC ENERGY CONSERVATION egograms:the OTHER ONE before and after the treatment.. Similar to a anorgasmic woman or to one who accessed to orgasm.
