2 Adopted: 5/3/06 SUBJECT AREA SOCIAL SCIENCE COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is an introductory study of the psychological domains: research methods, bio-psychological, cognitive, developmental, and social. It is research oriented in approach, introducing students to the systematic study of behavioral and mental processes. COURSE GOALS: Upon completion of the course, student will: 1. Understand and apply the developmental challenges unique to the student s senior year and utilize contemporary psychological research to support this growth. 2. Apply the scientific method to the study of psychology, particularly in the areas of biology, behavior and culture. 3. Comprehend the basic psychological phenomena of learning, sensation, perception, cognition, memory, motivation, emotion, stages of development, consciousness, abnormal behavior, treatment, social behavior, personality, and testing as they relate to post high school endeavors.
