3 Your subconscious mind is more powerful than you could ever imagine, it has immense power and controls 97% your life! Not only does it regulate your Automomic Nervous System such as heart beat, breathing, organs and glands, but also your life experiences: from the actions that you take each day, to the foods you eat, even the type of job you have and the amount of money you earn. Every part of your life s experiences are guided and controlled by your subconscious beliefs and interpretations. Your subconscious is just like the auto-pilot in an aircraft, and has been programmed to follow a specific course that cannot be changes easily, unless you change the old course directions by replacing them with new ones. OK, so what is The Subconscious Mind? The subconscious is the area of your mind that operates below the normal level of waking consciousness. As you read this document, you are using your conscious mind to understand and interpret the words and sentences. While this is happening, your subconscious mind is working behind the scenes, analysing, absorbing and rejecting information based on existing ideas and beliefs stored in your mind. These existing beliefs began to take root while you were still a small child. With every experience, your subconscious mind absorbs all this information like a sponge. When you were young, you accepted ALL the information you received because you didn t have any pre-existing beliefs to contradict what was being received. Now you can understand why this could become a problem later on in life! Whenever someone called you lazy, stupid or worthless or worse, your subconscious mind just filed that information away for later reference. Messages of disempowerment and worthlessness based upon your looks, height, education, skin colour or gender could have significant negative effects later on in life, as they form a strong and sold foundation of your beliefs. The Effects of Old Programming on Your Life Today! As adults, we many times believe, that we can just simply ignore and not think about any of the hurtful or untrue messages we absorbed while young. But this unfortunately is not the case. 4 yourself being limited from achieving the dreams and aspirations you have, or from trying to live a balanced and happy life. Have you ever had a dream to do something really worthwhile in your life, only to find out that you keep sabotaging yourself? Or, maybe you ve set some really great goals for yourself, only to realise that you don t follow through on them. It all starts to become a little discouraging. It s highly probably that your old programmed messages are now in conflict with your new ideas, plans and dreams. In a way this is good news, because with a little help in reprogramming your subconscious mind, you can achieve just about anything in life. This Programming is still happening today! It s very important for you to understand, that the programming of your subconscious mind is still going on today. You will make certain conclusions about your experiences in life, whether through people, the media or exposure to some happening, those messages will be stored in your subconscious for future guidance in your actions. Imagine for a moment being told that you are useless and will amount to nothing, what kind of message do you think you would store? Immediately your subconscious would rummage through your memories and look for examples of when you felt useless (like when you tried to skate like the other kids and kept falling and felt so foolish) and then draw a conclusion that you are unworthy and undeserving of success! The message stored would be I am unworthy and undeserving of success. So, let s see how this belief would work in a real situation: You have just been promoted to sales manager, and your job will be to manage the sales force, set targets, and compile monthly reports on the achievement of sales targets. But, because the newly appointed position conflicts with your unconscious belief that I am unworthy and undeserving of success you begin to experience fear, panic and apprehension within because you don t believe that you are the right person for the job. So, you will either reject the position, or do something to sabotage what could possibly be the chance of a lifetime. The very same principal happens when you struggle to achieve your goals, or follow a dream that you may have. 5 be successful and that it isn t for you. Now you ve come to expect failure in all that you do, and guess what? That s exactly what you get, more of the same! I m sure you can recall many situations that are similar to what I ve just mentioned; this is the result of your subconscious programming. The good news is, the programming of the subconscious is not that difficult if you know how. How to Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind I m going to share with you some simple ways to help you change the way you think. There are many different ways to overwrite the limit and self-sabotaging beliefs in your subconscious mind. You could use all of these methods simultaneously to help you achieve the reprogramming process. It would be more effective though, if you just pick one or two to start with. Later once you feel you can handle more, you can always integrate additional techniques. How the Environment Influences Your Subconscious Your subconscious mind never tires and never sleeps, it s like a sponge, absorbing information every second of every day, it forms conclusions and creates beliefs based on that flow of information. Of course, it goes without saying, that if your environment is negative, and filled with strife and unhappiness, what kind of messages are being formed in your subconscious mind. The very first thing I would advise, is to limit your daily exposure to negatively charged messages from the media, from people and from any other source that would influence you negatively. Try not to watch the news on TV or spend too much time around negative people, limit your newspaper and magazine reading to things that will uplift and motivate rather than instil a sense of horror, fear and doom. Don t deliberately look out for the newspaper headlines on the way to and from work, the majority of these headlines are skilfully put together to heighten one s curiosity so that you buy their newspaper. The majority of all the headlines you ll see add no value to creating a more positive, vibrant and enthusiastic you. You can LIVE without it! Affirmations Food of the Mind Affirmations are another effective way of reprogramming your subconscious mind. Affirmations are commands or statements of truth about something; they are a powerful ingredient in positive thinking. 5 Better Living through Better Thinking 2013 info@mindinmotion.co.za

6 They are not statements that you wish to be true; they are statements that you must believe are true. Affirmations are positive statements that describe a desired condition in your life. Although this condition may not exist yet, it must be spoken as though it does. A typical example of a positive affirmation in the present tense may be: I am healthy and successful. In order for affirmations to be effective, they must be spoken in the present tense and be sincerely felt, they must be said with conviction and with enthusiasm and be repeated several times on a daily basis for at least days. Positive affirmations help you become more aware of how your subconscious mind works, and why you may respond poorly in certain circumstances. As you program your mind more and more with the positive affirmations, you will be able to recognise negative thought patterns and delete them before they can materialise. Visualisation Forth Coming Attractions The language of the subconscious is images and emotions. The subconscious responds well to this type of language, in fact 80% of everything we ve learned in life has been through the visual cortex of our minds. Visualisation is a great way to reprogram our subconscious minds using powerful positively charge images. It has been said that visualisation is a movie played in our minds of the forth coming attractions in our life. It has been said that if you can see it in your mind, you can achieve it in your body. Set some time aside for at least minutes a day to visualise positive scenes and images that feature you and your life at the centre of the experiences. Some things you may want to visualise are: A passion for life and growth A slim and fit body An exotic vacation Running your own business A beautiful home and car If you do this on a consistent basis, you will begin to replace the old images and negative pictures that have been stored from your past experiences, fears, worries and insecurities. 6 Better Living through Better Thinking 2013 info@mindinmotion.co.za

7 Because your subconscious does not discern between what is real and what is not, it s really important that you allow feelings of love, joy, peace, enthusiasm and gratitude to flow through you, just as if you were there experiencing it. Your subconscious mind will absorb these experiences and images as though they are real! The power of visualisation is to be able to bypass the limiting beliefs and messages and focus on empowering ones. All of these images and feelings will be recorded by your subconscious mind for replay at a later date. Brainwave Entrainment Another way of reprogramming your subconscious is with the use of BWE Brainwave Entrainment, these are audio recordings that have been designed to deliberately alter the frequency of your brainwaves, and they are called binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic tones. It sounds a bit far-fetched and science fiction like, but there is ample scientific proof as well as testimonials that report they work. You can visit my website for more information on BWE. Depending on the type of activity you are engaged in, your brainwaves will be in one of four dominant states: Beta when you are fully awake, alert and actively concentrating Alpha this is when you are in a relaxed state Theta when you are drowsy or having a light sleep Delta this is when you are in deep sleep A binaural beat is the result of two independent and different frequencies being played into each ear, triggering your brainwaves to follow a different pattern. For example if you wanted to move from alert and awake to relaxed and chilled, you would listen to an audio pattern that triggers that state. This is called (FFR) Frequency Following Response. You can read more about Frequency Following Response on my website These audio programs are very good at helping you reprogram your subconscious mind, as they create a more receptive state for embedding positive messages. Research has shown that your subconscious is much more receptive to new programming when you are relaxed, such as when you are in alpha or theta states. Using a combination of affirmations and/or visualisation with brainwave entrainment, can have a powerful effect in the reprogramming of your subconscious mind, this is because as you become relaxed, the urge to resist and analyse everything that comes 7 Better Living through Better Thinking 2013 info@mindinmotion.co.za

8 into your mind is not there, and so the subconscious mind is open to receive and absorb new positive and empowering information. All you have to do is relax and visualise positive images that create good emotions and enjoy the journey. Hypnosis Today hypnosis is a very common way of dealing with and altering the subconscious programming that limit our abilities. It works in much the same way as BWE. A hypno-therapist will gradually lead you into a relaxed state and once there will deliver positive and empowering suggestions to your subconscious mind. Although hypnotherapy is a very powerful and effective way of reprogramming your subconscious mind, not everyone can afford to see one. This is where self-hypnosis can be used. Self Hypnosis You would simply use pre-recorded audio (CD s, MP3 s) programs that have been specifically engineered and personally edited for your specific situation. They will contain audio that will gently lead you into a relaxed state (alpha or theta) followed by recorded affirmations and suggestions that are absorbed by the subconscious mind. They may even contain other sounds like, a flowing river or stream, maybe some birds singing, some may even contain ambient overlays to help in the visualisation process. Please me on mark@victoriousliving.co.za Learn to Develop a Self-Awareness Developing a strong sense of self-awareness will help you become more sensitive to negative and self-sabotaging behaviour before it becomes too much of a problem. This part of the reprogramming process is important; as it helps you identify, change and maintain the newly developed programming, as well as lessen the infiltration of negative input, which could cause you relapsing. Normally once new positive affirmations and beliefs have been formed, they are accepted long term, that doesn t mean you must stop reprogramming your subconscious, remember, you are receiving data every single second, most of which is negative in nature. 9 Here are some signs you may notice that indicate clear signs that subconscious reprogramming is working: You feel much more confident than when you started You feel more secure and at peace with the world around you You have more control over your emotions You attract more opportunities to grow and learn more Things don t overwhelm you like they used to You feel happier and more content irrelevant of external influences You are not so afraid to take calculated risks You will be aware that changes are taking place within your mind, as they will directly influence your physical body as well as behaviour. Important Notice! Please give the process of change time to work, do not expect to see immediate changes it takes time. Persistency and a strong will to continue will bring great dividends. As you continue in your quest for a better life, you will become stronger and more committed to the changes within. As you begin to overcome one obstacle at a time, you start to feel more motivated to move on to the next one, and the next one and the next one, and before you know it, what felt like a giant mountain to overcome, has been reduced to a mere mole hill.
