During this innovative new course, you will study how 3 7-year-olds learn, gain insight into child development, and discover how to help them grow into their full potential. Education is impacted by multiple psychological, social, cultural and economic aspects. This innovative new course will give you insight into how these aspects affect the educational system and the people within it. 3 F410 Code F410 Ealing site Forensic Science FdSc Nutritional Therapeutics FdSc Four years Technological advances in crime detection require the creation of highly trained forensic scientists and this course has been designed to meet this need. This course provides a thorough grounding in forensic science, incorporating biological sciences, chemical sciences and the process of criminal investigation. This FdSc Nutritional Therapeutics course will develop your understanding of the science behind the relationship between food, health and wellbeing. On successful completion of this course, graduates may choose to specialise in a particular aspect of forensic science for example reporting officer, scene of crime examiner, fingerprint expert, imaging specialist, accident or fire investigator, or firearms expert. A notable feature of this course is the large amount of practical laboratory work associated with all of the scientific modules. Visits to external agencies, including forensic laboratories and courts of law, are incorporated, giving you the opportunity to apply your learning in a practical environment. Newly refurbished crime scene rooms have been created so that you can apply your theoretical knowledge of forensic science and evidencegathering techniques within a practical crime scene context. The final year of the course includes an experiential learning element, which will allow you to spend a period of time in employment within an external organisation, so you can gain valuable work experience. The process of gaining course accreditation from the Forensic Science Society has been initiated. 5 C80C Code C80C Psychology with Applied Forensic Investigation Psychology with Counselling Theory Code C8B9 C8B9 This course aims to provide you with a full grounding in psychology and an insight into the specialist areas of forensic investigation. It is provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts and will give you the opportunity to gain knowledge of all aspects of psychology. This course aims to provide a grounding in psychology with a focus on the specialist area of counselling. For those who are interested in mental health issues and have aspirations to work in counselling or related professions, this course will help you to gain the foundations that will help support these goals. Study progression Further training is required to practise as a forensic psychologist, but this course may be attractive to students intending to progress to masters-level training in forensic psychology. Employment opportunities are vast and wide-ranging in relation to this degree pathway, with experiential learning forming a fundamental part of the course. This course pathway is based on one of the longest established psychology courses in the UK, which has been accredited by the British Psychological Society since This innovative course aims to provide students with a full grounding in psychology, with a focus on the specialist area of forensic psychology along with the practical, scientific bases of forensic investigation. This applied course focuses on contemporary issues concerning the psychological understanding of the human mind and behaviour, particularly in a forensic context. For people who are interested in what goes on in a criminal mind, this course will help you to delve a little deeper. This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to identify and work with substance misuse-related issues in a variety of sectors. For example, you would be able to specialise in addiction counselling. On successful completion of this course, you will be able to choose from a diverse range of professions such as mental health organisations, the caring professions, management and industry. 7 L500 Code L500 Social Work Substance Use and Misuse (Top-up) 18 months This is an innovative course designed to meet the demands of contemporary social work practice. It will offer individuals the opportunity to study on a course with a strong practice focus balanced with theoretical, research and evidencebased teaching and learning. This is a top-up; therefore, students enter at Level Six only (the final year of a BSc). Social workers work in a wide variety of agencies and organisations; in local authority, health and education settings; as well as in non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the private and charitable sectors. Opportunities are diverse: career pathways can range from working in a community mental health team or working as a child exploitation worker in a charitable organisation to advocating for older people in an NGO. The course aims to develop you to become a qualified social worker so you can to practise and work confidently and effectively with other professionals to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. It is designed to enable you to successfully meet the Health and Care Professions Council s (HCPC) Standards of Proficiency (SoP) for social work, adhering to the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) and remaining conscious of the academic social work benchmark statements. Our students develop competence in applying acquired knowledge, skills and values that will assist you in making social work interventions to improve complex social problems for diverse populations of service users. Social work is a regulated profession and on completion of the course you will be eligible to register with the Health and Care Professions Council, the social work profession s regulator, and able to adhere to their standards and regulations. The course will give you a comprehensive insight into various aspects of substance use and misuse, including: Alcohol and drug effects Psychopharmacology The historical and cultural context of drug use and misuse Models of dependence Drug and alcohol policies Harm reduction interventions to reduce blood-borne viruses Evidence-based treatment interventions for substance misuse and dual diagnosis (risk assessment and risk management, policies, interventions and current research in dual diagnosis). Level Six Advanced Substance Use and Misuse in Context Advanced Substance Misuse Treatment Interventions Advanced Communicable Diseases (HIV, HBV, HCV, TB), Substance Misuse and Health Behaviour Advanced Dual Diagnosis Double Dissertation in Substance Misuse. Past students now follow successful careers in a variety of sectors as substance misuse specialists in: Mental health services Drug treatment services Homeless services Midwifery Youth services. Several students have progressed in their careers to become commissioners and directors of addiction services. This will provide a framework through which to understand how values are allocated and resources are distributed in various global contexts. for graduates will include roles in both the private and public sectors; for example, in local government and the civil service, international and development agencies, the armed forces, the police force and the security services. Students may also choose to progress to postgraduate study. The course will include both core and optional content.
