The provisions laid down in this subject module description are issued pursuant to the curricula for the Bachelor Programme in Social Sciences, the Bachelor Programme in the Humanities, the Bachelor Programme in the Humanities and Technology, and the Bachelor Programme in Natural Science. Unless otherwise specifically stated below, the provisions set out in the curriculum for the Bachelor study programme in which the student is enrolled shall also apply to this subject module. Object The bachelor subject module in Psychology focuses on Social Psychology in a Global Context It gives special attention to psychological approaches that point beyond more common western psychological perspectives, by gathering humanistic and social scientific approaches from around the world and integrating international, intercultural and global aspects into the teaching activities. The module gives students the opportunity to explore everyday life activities in their concrete meetings with societal problems across context and place. It explores forms of doing and thinking about everyday life, how they emerge, and how they may contribute to the remaking of the social world. Here, there is particular focus on exploring social psychology and its role in developing the emerging social economy and third sector. In keeping with a global perspective, the subject module considers indigenous perspectives on social, developmental and personality psychology, where themes such as subjectivity, agency, social processes and practices, situated power relations, intersectionality and the management of entrepreneurial social change are introduced to examine lived everyday life across societal contexts and values. In the module s research project, students will work with and reflect on the interconnection between local and global problems as related to social psychology of everyday life in situated societal conditions. The object of the subject module in Psychology is to provide the student with an introduction, in thematic form, to the central theories of psychology and their core issues of development, personality and sociality, seen in a global social and cultural context. Through their engagement with the courses in the module, students acquire knowledge of and learn to apply theory, concepts, methods of investigation and analysis of issues relating to developmental, personality and social psychology, seen in a global social and cultural context.

2 Page 2 The subject module in Psychology is also intended to qualify the student for entry to a Master s programme in Psychology or related Master s programmes. The subject module comprises one of the two subject modules included in the Bachelor programmes offered at Roskilde University. The subject module corresponds to 35 ECTS credits. Competency profile The subject module in Psychology aims to equip students with the following knowledge, skills and competencies: Knowledge: Broad knowledge of psychological theories and methods associated with the social psychology of everyday life, seen in a global social and cultural context. Considered knowledge of the theoretical and methodological implications of social psychological theories of everyday life, including ontological and epistemological issues. Understanding of the historical, methodological and epistemological affiliation of psychological theory formation in relation to lived everyday life across societal contexts and values Skills: Skills in applying scientific methods and undertaking critical and independent work on issues that require competences within social psychology of everyday life. Skills in communicating to various relevant target groups issues relating the social psychology of everyday life in a global perspective. Skills in independently planning, managing, accessing and reflecting on the implications of entrepreneurial social change in relation to an understanding of lived everyday life across cultural societal contexts. Skills in assessing knowledge of the relations between social psychology of everyday life theory and methodology in relation to practical issues of a psychological nature in relation to entrepreneurial social change. Competencies: Competency to identify, formulate and treat issues relating to the social psychology of everyday life in diverse contexts.

3 Page 3 Competency to analyse and treat the issue using scientific literature and methods, including implementing an independent and critical discussion of the theoretical approaches applied and their methodological implications. Competency to form coherent conclusions based on the analysis conducted and the treatment of the issue. Competency to contextualise the conclusion in relation to its psychological and/or social implications. Competency to perform critical and independent work on issues that require competence within the social psychology of everyday life and entrepreneurial social change. Competency to undertake and develop business functions in areas where a broad qualification in the discipline of social psychology of everyday life is useful. Competency to reflect on the theoretical and methodological implications of theories social psychology of everyday life, including ontological and epistemological issues. Content and overall structure The subject module corresponds to 35 ECTS credits, and consists of the following elements: Subject module project in Psychology (15 ECTS) Subject module course 1: Psychology of everyday life (5 ECTS) Subject module course 2: Cultural and social dimensions of Psychology theoretical perspectives and themes (5 ECTS). Subject module course 3: Developmental-, Personality,- and Social Psychology (5 ECTS) Subject module course 4: Psychological methodology and research practice (5 ECTS) The courses encompass theoretical issues associated with the psychology of everyday life, including developmental, personality and social psychology in a global, cultural and social context. Recommended academic requirements 4. Before commencing this subject module, the student is recommended to have acquired knowledge, skills and competencies corresponding to the course Subjectivity and Learning in the basic studies part of the Bachelor study programme in Humanities. Skills in analysing and addressing the issue in a methodical manner with the use of scientific literature. Skills to carry out independent and critical discussion of the theoretical approaches used. Skills in communicating knowledge and insight of key theories and issues in psychology, both in written, scientifically structured reports and orally. Competencies: Competency to analyse and work independently with scientific literature that deals with central theories and issues in psychology. Competency to utilise key psychological theories, and other theories of relevance to psychology, relating to human development, personality or social life seen in a social and cultural context. Competency to form coherent conclusions based on the analysis conducted and the treatment of the issue. Overall content Competency to contextualise the conclusion in relation to its psychological and/or social implications. In the project work, the student reflects upon a self-chosen topic from the perspective of psychological theories, based on the student s own empirical data or that of others.

5 Page 5 The frame for the project work is shaped by the objective of the subject module courses: knowledge of key theories of social psychology of everyday life and their basic issues relating to development, personality and sociality, seen in a social and cultural context. The project work must thematise developmental, personality and/or social psychological theories relating to the field of inquiry. Language of instruction Conditions for taking the examination The project may draw upon other scientific areas in order to place the selected issue in perspective. The project work concludes with the compilation of a project report. English As a condition for being allowed to take the examination, the student must have participated in internal evaluation. In the internal evaluation, the project group, through mutual constructive and critical discussion with an opponent group and another supervisor, is given an opportunity to qualify the overall project design, problem statement and response to this. For the internal evaluation, a project description of at least three and no more than five pages is submitted, and oral feedback is prepared for the opponent group. The student must compile a study portfolio of at least two standard pages, which is enclosed with the project report on submission. Students who do not participate in the internal evaluation must instead submit written feedback on the opponent group s project to the opponent group and the opponent group s supervisor. The written feedback should be min one and max two standard pages in length. Form of examination The size of the assignment is based on 2,400 characters (incl. spaces) per page, including the front page, table of contents, bibliography. Excluding appendices. Form of examination Oral examination based on a project report. The project is written in groups with a maximum of seven students. The examination is based on the students project report. The examination takes the form of a conversation between the student, the examiner and the moderator. Students must be examined on the basis of the whole project report. The assessment awarded is based on a combined assessment of both the project work and the oral examination. The project report must have a min size of 15 and max 20 standard pages per student, and no more than 100 pages, regardless of group size.

A submitted assignment will be rejected if it exceeds the set maximum size for an examination assignment or a written work. Knowledge of selected general outlines regarding psychology as a science and the history of psychology. Insight into the identification of general theoretical and methodological issues in psychology. Knowledge of and reflection on the similarities and differences between selected psychological theories and methodologies. Skills: Skills in evaluating theoretical and practical issues relating to subjectivity, development and power in everyday life.

7 Page 7 Skills in applying relevant general psychological theories and methodologies as a basis for the analysis of selected issues, and in order to form and discuss proposed solutions, models and intervention strategies Skills in communicating analytical perspectives on subjectivity, development and power in everyday life. Skills in assessing and commenting upon the professional communication and academic performance of colleagues based on professional criteria. Competencies: Competency to participate in academic and interdisciplinary study-related collaborations dealing with psychological topics. Overall content Language of instruction Study requirements Form of examination Competency to discuss and contextualise theoretical and practical problems relating to subjectivity, development and power in everyday life contexts, on the basis of overall knowledge of the theories and methodologies of psychology. The course aims to introduce important areas within the central theories, methods and issues of psychology, as they are included in research and practice. The course considers development and learning in a broad context by exploring subjectivity and the self in relation to socialisation processes in personal, institutional and societal frames, especially in a global perspective. The course will also introduce students to different disciplinary approaches to the study of psychology, especially the relations between humanistic and social science traditions of enquiry. English None The examination is in two parts: 1. Active, satisfactory and regular participation. 2. Preparation of video/posters and accompanying text in the group. Both parts must be satisfied in order to pass the examination. Re. 1: Active, satisfactory and regular participation is understood to mean: Attendance at at least 80% of the course sessions. The student holds one or more oral discussion presentations at selected course sessions.

8 Page 8 Re. 2: Production of a video and associated analysis in the accompanying text based on a set examination questions. The examination question will be supplied at the final course session. On the basis of the examination question, the group: Produces a video of 3-5 minutes duration Compiles an accompanying text of min 4 and max 6 standard pages. The size of the assignment is based on 2,400 characters (incl. spaces) per page, including the front page, table of contents, bibliography. Excluding appendices. The purpose of the production of the video and accompanying text is to demonstrate active participation in the course and knowledge of its topics, themes and debates, including how and why the video shows psychologically relevant everyday issues, and how the group explores these with the help of psychological theories and concepts. The video and the analytical text in the accompanying text must be submitted ten days (incl. any weekend or public holidays) after the examination question has been provided. Accompanying texts that deviate from the size requirements will not be assessed. The video and the analytical text form the basis for a peer-reviewbased oral group examination of a maximum duration of four hours. Assessment Moderation Re-examination: Seven-day individual written assignment (including weekends and public holidays) of min 11 and max13 standard pages. The examination response must reflect the student s mastery of the entire course syllabus. The size of the assignment is based on 2,400 characters (incl. spaces) per page, including the front page, table of contents, bibliography. Excluding appendices. Skills: Skills in explaining the theoretical and methodological implications of the main schools of thought in psychology. Skills in the use of selected psychological theories in an independent analysis of specific empirical issues. Skills in written and oral communication and discussion of the psychological knowledge and insights that emerge from the main schools of thought. Competencies: Competency to analyse and work independently with scientific literature dealing with the main schools of thought in psychology. Competency to deal with theoretical and practical issues, using scientific literature within the main schools of thought, including independent and critical discussion of the theoretical approaches used. Overall content Language of instruction Study requirements Form of examination Competency to contextualise the main schools of thought in relation to the psychological and/or social implications of the issues. Psychology is a broad discipline engaging with knowledge and methods from across the natural, humanistic and social science traditions. The particular emphasis in this course is on a social psychological perspective where cultural and social factors shape the formation of the self. As such, the theoretical perspectives presented in the course are placed in their historical context and related to the social and societal frames in which sociality is experienced. Whilst the course is grounded in western perspectives on the self, subject and society, it will place these in the context of other major systems of thought, especially Eastern and indigenous approaches. English It is recommended that the student take Subject module course 1 of the Bachelor programme in Psychology before commencing Subject module course 2. The examination is in two parts: 1. The oral presentation must be accompanied by a brief written paper relating to the texts and issues of the course in question. Re. 2: Written assignments on set questions: The assignment must be min. four and max six standard pages 2,400 characters (incl. spaces) per page, including the front page, table of contents, bibliography. Excluding appendices. Assignments that deviate from the size requirements will not be assessed. The duration of the examination is three days (including any weekend or public holidays). A single, combined grade is awarded. Assessment Moderation Re-examination: Five-day individual written assignment (including any weekend or public holidays) of min 11 and max 13 standard pages. Knowledge of methodological and theoretical issues in the focus areas of developmental, personality and social psychology including cultural and social perspectives. Skills: Skills in the analysis of issues associated with, developmental, personality and social psychology, and in contextualising these areas based on a cultural and social perspective. Skills in the use of selected, developmental, personality and social psychological theories in an independent analysis of specific empirical issues. Skills in written and oral communication and discussion of the psychological knowledge and insights that emerge from the focus areas. Competencies: Competency to analyse and work independently with scientific social psychological and social science literature related to the focus areas. Competency to deal with theoretical and practical issues, using scientific literature within the focus areas, including independent and critical discussion of the theoretical approaches used. Overall content Language of instruction Study requirements Competency to contextualise scientific literature from the focus areas in relation to the psychological and/or social implications of the issues. The course provides a thematic overview to three main areas of psychology: developmental psychology, personality psychology and social psychology. The course introduces theoretical, epistemological and methodological issues associated with these areas and considers them in relation to particular social contexts. As part of the overall focus on a social psychological perspective, the course will explore social science perspectives where issues such as community, civil society and governance frame understandings of trust, social capital and social responsibility. English It is recommended that the student take Subject module course 1 of the Bachelor programme in Psychology before commencing Subject module course 3.

Knowledge of specific methodological approaches and theoretical issues relating to the choice of method. Skills: Skills in analysing the issues linked to the use of specific methods in various psychological research practices. Skills in explaining the possibilities and limitations of various methodological approaches in relation to obtaining relevant psychological knowledge. Skills in using specific psychological research methods. Skills in written and oral communication of knowledge and insight about psychological methodology and research practice. Competencies: Competency to select, on a theoretical basis, specific psychological research methods in relation to their potential usefulness in studies for specific purposes, and to assess their psychological and/or social implications. Competency to analyse and work independently with scientific literature that deals with psychological research methodology and research practice. Overall content Competency to assume responsibility for collecting empirical data with specific psychological research methods. The course aims to introduce key aspects of the application of specific psychological research methods in qualitative as well as quantitative empirical studies. The focus is on illustrating the relationship between a given method of research and its epistemological basis through examples drawn from research practice. Additionally, the course will introduce the notion of

14 Page 14 various scientific levels in the approach to research, and show how the different levels relate to each other. Form of examination The examination is in two parts: 1. Active, satisfactory and regular participation. 2. Written examination in the form of a portfolio. Both parts must be passed for a pass grade to be awarded in the examination. Re. 1: Active, satisfactory and regular participation is understood to mean: Attendance at at least 80% of the course sessions, with active and satisfactory participation. A draft of the group assignment is communicated and discussed through peer-review Re. 2: Written examination in the form of a portfolio, submitted within 3 calendar days (including weekends and holidays) of the conclusion of the course, and containing: - A reflection note of min 3 and max 6 standard pages, compiled by the individual student, containing reflections on the single course sessions. - A written group assignment of min 4 and max 7 standard pages. The assignment is compiled based on a self-selected research-methodological issue. The size of the assignment is based on 2,400 characters (incl. spaces) per page, including the front page, table of contents, bibliography. Excluding appendices.
