2 Infant Observation Course Course Lead Francesca Calvocoressi, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist The course The course is a particularly useful introduction to a psychoanalytic understanding of human development. Individual students observe a baby for an hour each week in the baby s own home, through his or her first year of life. The student closely observes behaviour, interactions, developing attachments and the emotional life of the infant. A weekly 1½ hour seminar with a senior psychoanalytical psychotherapist allows students to reflect on their observations and recordings. Required reading aims to enhance learning. A final written paper helps the student bring together thoughts, observations and knowledge gained from this experience. Learning is in a small group setting.

3 The course is designed for Professionals engaged in therapy or counselling with adults, children and families and those working in therapeutic settings with infants and young children. The course is pre-requisite for those going on to train as British Psychoanalytic Council registered Psychoanalytical Psychotherapists. Location; SIHR, 172 Leith Walk, Edinburgh EH6 5EA Dates; October 2012 December 2013 Term 1: 2 October 7 December Terms 2, 3, 4: dates to be confirmed. Times; Tuesdays 5.15pm pm Cost; 1600 ( 400 per term). In some circumstances an arrangement can be made to pay by agreed installments. Please note that course fee invoices will be sent out with acceptance of applications/offer of place letters with payment due no later than the mid point of term 1.
