1 The Dyersville community survey helps guide the comprehensive and downtown plans by addressing the diverse components driving how Dyersville functions today. Up to the design studio in July, 407 people responded to the survey. Of those responding, 85% live in Dyersville and 59% work in Dyersville. Overall, respondents perceive Dyersville to have satisfactory amenities, including: Pedestrian friendliness Community image Transportation Economic development Land use and environmental conditions Parks and recreation What do you believe are Dyersville s greatest assets? Major Themes Overall, respondents are pleased with public and community services in Dyersville. 51% of survey respondents believe that Dyersville has excellent library services and 43% believe that Dyersville has excellent educational facilities such as elementary and high school institutions. Respondents identified overall quality of life, parks and trails, and tourism draw (Field of Dreams movie site) as the top three greatest assets in Dyersville. Strengthening downtown as a destination, growing local businesses, and improving/ increasing active transportation are identified by survey respondents as top priorities for the future of Dyersville. In order to improve downtown, survey respondents believe that additional retail businesses, restaurants and entertainment facilities, special events and activities, and public gathering spaces should be developed. The survey includes a series of rating questions where respondents were asked to rate issues on a scale of one to five with one (1) being poor and five (5) being excellent. The survey then includes a number of open ended question to invite respondents to provide additional comments in regards to what they believe are the highest priorities and big-ideas for Dyersville and its future. The following pages show the responses to individual questions with responses listed in descending order by the weighted average, on a scale of 5 being excellent and 1 being poor. Respondents were allowed to select I don t know for each answer choice, reflected in the variety of total responses for each answer.

Figure 1.2: Community Perceptions - Community Image and Values On the topics related to Community Image and Values, the trend is fair with most being overall happy with living in Dyersville (3.8) with fair responses for attracting and welcoming new residents.
