Presented by Tisha Norman Stress-free Relationships: How to Work With Any Personality

Today We ll Learn 1. The key to a stress-free relationship 2. How to improve your attitude during conflict 3. How to respond instead of react 4. Understanding and accepting personality differences 5. How to acknowledge others 6. Building stronger relationships by managing your emotions 7. Communicating through personal disagreements

People skills are as important as technical skills. Constructive work environments help reduce stress. Cultivate a healthy worklife balance. Make a decision to let it go. Where is the stress coming from? Stress

Healthy Exercise personal leadership. Use power communication. Play to your assets. Showing tolerance and support will make you come across as motivational and upbeat. Work Environments

When a coworker has a problem, remind yourself of 2 things: 1. You are making your best effort to give constructive advice. 2. You are improving your attitude. Improve Your Attitude and Go With the Flow

Replace negative self-talk with a positive internal voice. Don t meet a negative attitude with a negative attitude. Keep it moving. Improve Your Attitude and Go With the Flow

Respect others opinions, even when you don t agree. We have the right to stand up for ourselves. Be direct but not condescending. Assertiveness

Attitude is everything.

Keep Calm and Carry On Learn how to respond, not react. The Heat of the Moment

How to Think Before You Speak 1. Use the 8-second rule. 2. Talk to your confidant. 3. Try to identify with your colleagues. Responding is thinking logically, not emotionally.

Everyone Is Different

General Characteristics Support/out-front Fast-paced/slow-paced Facts/stories Direct/indirect Detailed/big picture

Observe What People Do Is a person s question always focused on the end goal and what we re trying to accomplish? What time are we supposed to be there? Who s coming? What if they don t show up? Intentionally expose yourself to different people.

They are introverted and structured. They use evidence, facts, and logic. They are practical. They like things to be exact. Analytics

Analytical, solution-driven, and detail-oriented Structured and ambitious Direct, but it s nothing personal. Drivers

They are outgoing and create excitement. Affirm them and their skills. They may not be go-tos for input. They are good collaborators. Amiables

They are outgoing, charismatic risk-takers. Don t become irritated by grandstanding. They are good at presenting and selling. Don t stifle their energy. Social Expressives

Communicate Through Don t allow your feelings to cloud your judgment. Recognize the signs that you re getting angry. Be well-prepared for any response. Disagreements

4 Basic Communication Styles Style Primary Mission You Feel Reactions Passive Avoidance, going along, apologies Unimportant, ignored, insignificant Frustrated, sympathetic, want to fix Aggressive Blame, control, combative Angry, out of control, stressed Insulted, hurt, manipulated, bullied Passive-Aggressive Revenge, sabotage Used, slighted, outraged Confused, betrayed, wanting to avoid Assertive Actions and results oriented Confident, in charge, empowered Respected, informed, understood

Build Stronger Relationships Build positive work relationships. When you need assistance, do some research up front. Display integrity.

Send a follow-up after finishing a project or closing a deal. We all have emotional shortcomings. How we react is when unproductive behavior can surface.

Managing Your Attitude Focus on your emotions you re not managing. What do you think happens when you have a bad attitude? People remember when you re in a bad mood. Focus on the value of work relationships.

Colleague Boss Ideal Leader Demonstrate an interest in others. Always show your value. Help your colleagues succeed.

Unproductive behaviors cost your employer time and money. Commit to redirecting your energy toward personal productivity. Time-Wasters

Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive, because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny. Gandhi

We must make the best of difficult coworkers. You can t change people. You can choose how you respond. Summary
