1 Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust NSCAP- NW Transpennine Group Courses & Training What is it Half Day Study Event When is it Saturday 10th February 2018 Where is it St Thomas Centre Ardwick Green, Manchester M12 6FZ What does it cost 60 Including light lunch Limited number of reduced cost places for trainees Event outline In her foreword to Fakhry David s book, Internal Racism: A Psychoanalytic Approach to Race and Difference, Ann Scott, writing as Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Psychotherapy notes that: We live, increasingly, within political and social cultures whose official language opposes racism and celebrates difference. At the same time racism - whether individual or institutional continues to exist, and its effects continue to reverberate, in subtle and more obvious ways. This half day event provides an opportunity to engage with the complexities of racism from the intensity of the consulting room, the interactive spaces of group relationships and through the prism of psychoanalytic writing and contemporary public discourse. Fakhry David takes us into the realms of internal racism which operates unconsciously and which in his view is a universal component of the mind in both* parties. Julia Fabricius will present a paper as discussant to further inform exploratory discussion. *author s italics All NSCAP courses are taught by experienced clinicians skilled in the application of learning to a wide range of settings and situations.
