An argument or situation that may have had physical confrontation. Relating a story about an experience or event or situation. Trying to cause a person to become hostile, often intentional. An intentional review of systems and/or behaviors of an individual to evaluate their health status, usually done by a professional health care person. To use violence to try and harm or intimidate someone. A reference point or baseline that can be used to compare an individual s actions or behaviors. Actions or behaviors to try and make someone feel less than or not important. A clearly stated or unspoken understanding of professional or emotional limits between individuals. The term adopted and used to describe an individual s actions (behaviors) following being startled or not understanding what is being asked of them. Often used for people with cognitive challenges due to brain injury or Alzheimer s. Something that is fastened to limit somebody's freedom of movement. Evidence-informed practices addressing high-priority areas that are central to quality and safety. A written document to discuss actions or techniques to follow when going to an individual s home to decrease potential violence or responsive behaviours. It is a shared communication tool between or for health care providers. To watch closely, examine or ask questions to establish the risk of violence. Spoken words, may be mumbling, or yelling used to intimidate another person. Experience suffering through somebody else s story or witnessing of events. The use of emotional or physical force to harm someone or something. Violence is further defined as acts of aggression and or responsive behaviours whether intentional or unintentional arising out of medical conditions for which the individual seeks care for. Includes family members and members of the public. These are people who are not receiving care. Easy to be harmed or taken advantage of. A period following drug/ alcohol use causing a person to feel uncomfortable and maybe painful symptoms. A term used referring to any person who is working in a healthcare setting in any sector, acute, home care, community and long term care.
