Few Characteristics of Generations Traditionalists Baby Boomers Generation X Generation Y Work Pattern 9 to 5 Dawn to Dusk What do you mean by 9 to 5? Work smarter & Quicker till work done Work Style Tell me Guide me Participating On my terms Work need Build Security Make it better Give m Comfort Learning Style Classroom Facilitated Independent Give me Meaning Collaborative & Networking Leadership style Command & Control Get out of the way Coach Partner Technology Use Uncomfortable Unsure Unable to work without it Unable to understand, if not provided Job Changing Unwise Sets me back Necessary Part of my daily routine Power of Paradigm Shift Inside - Out 1
Paradigms Paradigms is the way we see something Our point of view, or belief. They create limitations. Paradigms are like glasses. The lens affects how you see everything else. 3 Think of these influences on our lens! Family School College Place of worship Friends Television Channels Movies & Songs Current Social Concepts All the things we saw made their silent unconscio us impact on us. Our Paradigm 4 2
Power of Paradigm Shift Every significant breakthrough in science is first a break with old tradition. Copernicus created a paradigm shift, with great deal of resistance, by placing sun at the center of universe. US made a paradigm shift by the concept of Democracy in place of centuries old Monarchy. Swiss watch companies suffered of Paradigm and Japan enjoyed the Paradigm shift. 5 Power of Paradigm Shift All paradigm shifts need not be in positive direction. Non-violence is a paradigm shift. Terrorism is also a paradigm shift. 6 3
Paradigms of Life Paradigms of Life Friend- Centered Basing identity You are moving away Make as many but don t build on them Stuff- Centered Lens of possessions Quantity of things or Quality of heart? If who I am is what I have and what I have is lost, then who am I? College- Centered Education is vital.. Obsession with getting good marks Our worth is not measured in exams 8 4
Principle-Centered Centered the the real thing! What is being principle centered? What is Principle? 9 Captains in the fog! The paradigm shift experienced by the captain is totally different. Reality supersedes our limited perception in our daily lives. Principles are like lighthouses they are natural laws that cannot be broken! 10 5
What are principles? We are familiar with law of gravity. Throw a ball up, it comes down. Just as natural laws govern the physical world, Principles govern the human world. If you live by them, you will excel. If you break them you will fail, Examples are integrity, honesty, love, respect, hard work, gratitude, loyalty, responsibility, service, excellence 11 Principles & Paradigms Closer alignment of paradigms to principles will lead to accuracy and functionality! 12 6
Baby Steps.. List and say something positive about yourself. Show appreciation to other s point of view. Think of a limiting paradigm about yourself and do something totally against that paradigm When you do your works at home tonight, try out the principle of hard work. Do something more than expected. 13 7
Be Proactive There are two types of people in the world the proactive and the reactive. Those who take responsibility for their lives and those who blame. I am the Force! I am the Captain of my Life! I can choose my attitude! I am not just a passenger! Scene One Reactive Choices Tell her off. Fight. Go into a deep depression because you feel so bad about what she said. Decide that she s s a two faced liar and give her a silent treatment for two months Spread various rumors about her. After all she did it to you. You overhear your best friend bad mouthing you in front of a group. She doesn t know you overheard the conversation. Just five minutes ago, this same friend was sweettalking you to your face. You feel hurt and betrayed. Proactive Choices Forgive her Confront her and calmly share how you feel. Ignore it and give her a second chance. Realize that she has weaknesses just like you and that occasionally you talk behind her back without really meaning any harm. 8
Stimulus Response Theory! Pavlov s experiments with dogs proved that we are conditioned to respond in a particular way to a particular stimulus. Proactive Model Stimulus Response Freedom to Choose Between Stimulus and Response, man has the freedom to choose. 9
Listen to your Language Reactive Language I ll try There s nothing I can do I have to I can t You spoiled my day Proactive Language I ll do Let s look at all our options I choose to I can I m not going to let your bad mood spoil mine When you re reactive it s like giving someone else the remote control to your life and saying, Hey, change my mood anytime as you wish. How to be Proactive? So, when something happens which you don t like just reach up and push the pause button to your life (Because now your remote control is with you!). While your life is on pause, open up your tool box the human tool box, which you may not have opened often. 10
Human Tool Box Self I can stand apart from myself and observe my thoughts and actions Awareness Conscience I can listen to my inner voice to right from wrong Imagination I can envision new possibilities Willpower I have the power to choose Be Proactive On the road of life, there are passengers and there are drivers.drivers Wanted! Volkswagen Ad Baby Steps Reactive language I use most. Do something that you wanted to do but never dared If you get in a fight with a parent or a friend, be the first to apologize. Things that I can t control and I always worry about.? 11
