Translational Research to Help Older Adults Maintain their Health and Independence in the Community (R01) files/pa html Translational Research to Help Older Adults Maintain their Health and Independence in the Community (R21) files/pa html This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications using the R01 award mechanism for translational research that moves evidence based research findings toward the development of new interventions, programs, policies, practices, and tools that can be used by organizations in the community to help older adults remain healthy and independent, productively engaged, and living in their own homes and communities. The goal of this FOA is to support translational research involving collaborations between academic research centers and community based organizations with expertise serving or engaging older adults (such as city and state health departments, city/town leadership councils, educational institutions, workplaces, Area Agencies on Aging, and organizations funded or assisted by the Corporation for National and Community Service) that will enhance our understanding of practical tools, techniques, programs and policies that communities across the nation can use to more effectively respond to needs of the aging population. 2. Core Infrastructure and Methodological Research for Cancer Epidemiology Cohorts (U01) Sponsor: NCI files/par html The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications for targeted infrastructure support of the core functions of Cancer Epidemiology Cohorts (CECs) and methodological research. Through this FOA, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) will support infrastructure and core functions for existing or new CECs. This FOA will also lead to support of core functions for CECs currently funded through other grant mechanisms by the Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP) and other components of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the NCI.

Hepatitis C Date Due: April 14, 2014 Reduce Hepatitis Infections by Treatment and Integrated Prevention Services (Hepatitis TIPS) among Non urban Young Persons Who Inject Drugs Sponsor: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention opportunity.html?oppid= The purpose and overarching goal of this cooperative agreement is to address the high prevalence of viral hepatitis C infection by developing and implementing an integrated approach for detection, prevention, care and treatment of Hepatitis C infection among young (18 30 year old), non urban people who inject drugs (PWID). Awardees will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to enroll young non urban PWID, collect epidemiological information, test for HCV infection and provide linkage to primary care services and prevention based education. International Health (3) Date Due: Letter of Intent: Tuesday, April 1, 2014 Noon Application: Thursday, May 1, 2014 Noon Awards announced: September 2014 UIC Global Health & Well Being Research Seed Grant Program Sponsors: global health seed grant project UIC Global Excellence Task Force and the UIC College of Medicine's Center for Global Health has established an annual seed grant program to foster new trans disciplinary and mixed and multiple methods research in global health and wellbeing at UIC. Grants will be made for new hypothesis driven pilot research with a substantial likelihood of gaining external funding or that can be completed with a limited budget. Priority will be given to projects that: address global health and well being research priorities; integrate multiple elements which can include, for example, biomedical science, social science, humanities, architecture, art, communications, urban planning, business, criminal justice, diversity, social justice and engineering; incorporate mixed and multiple methods; include investigators from both UIC's East and West campuses. This opportunity is open to full time tenure and non tenure track faculty from any department. Applications must involve a minimum of 2 colleges representing both East and West campuses only one of which can be from the health sciences. Each award will be a base maximum of $15K for one year; up to an additional $5 K will be awarded if matched 1:1 by the involved colleges, departments, or centers. Date Due: June 2, 2014 Global Non Communicable Disease Prevention and Promotion of Health Sponsor: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention opportunity.html?oppid= The purpose of this FOA is to promote health and prevent NCDs across the globe by supporting capacity building, surveillance and surveys, planning and monitoring, and activities that focus on the following key NCD conditions and risk factors such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, nutrition, reproductive health, and tobacco control. 5. NICHD Research Short Courses (R25) Sponsor: National Institute of Child Health and Human Development/NIH/DHHS Program URL: files/pa html National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) invites applications for grants to develop and conduct short term research education programs to improve the knowledge and skills of a broad based community of biomedical and behavioral researchers conducting research on reproductive, developmental, behavioral, social, and rehabilitative processes that determine the health and well being of newborns, infants, children, adults, families, and populations. The program should include both didactic and hands on experiences. If appropriate, the program may include activities to disseminate course materials and instructional experience to the scientific community. NIA MSTEM: Advancing Diversity in Aging Research (ADAR) through Undergraduate Education (R25) Sponsor: National Institute on Aging/NIH/DHHS Program URL: files/par html The NIA invites institutional Research Education Grant (R25) applications from institutions that propose creative and innovative research education programs to diversify the workforce inaging by (1) supporting undergraduate competency and completion in medicine, science, technology, engineering and mathematics ) ((MSTEM) to be referred to as NIA MSTEM fields henceforth), as they relate to aging and, also, by (2) application and transition to graduate study that advances a cadre of students from diverse backgounds into NIA MSTEM fields. The interests of the NIA span biological, biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social sciences research across the lifespan with a focus on processes of aging through midlife and into old age. This FOA is part of NIA's coordinated effort to (a) fill a gap in the pipeline transitioning from undergraduate to graduate education in aging as it relates to medicine, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and to (b) fulfill the objectives of the NIA Health Disparities Strategic Plan, Evaluation metrics for participants may include graduation rates in these fields, as well as application and enrollment in aging related and doctoral programs in these fields.

Research Infrastructure and Resources (2) Deadline(s): 04/28/2014; 05/29/2014 Network and Infrastructure Support for Development of Interdisciplinary Aging Research (R24) Sponsor: National Institute on Aging/NIH/DHHS Program URL: files/par html National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications for network and infrastructure support to foster development of novel interdisciplinary research approaches on aging research related to caloric restriction (CR) in humans. This FOA uses the Resource Related Research Project activity code (R24) to support research networks that will advance interdisciplinary collaboration through activities such as meetings, conferences, data exchange, small scale pilots, short term training opportunities, visiting scholar programs and dissemination activities to encourage growth and development in the science related to CR in humans. Date Due: January 25, May 25, and September 25 annually NIAID Resource Related Research Projects (R24) Sponsor: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases/NIH/DHHS Program URL: files/par html National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) invites submission of investigator initiated Resource Related Research Projects (R24) applications. The proposed resource must provide a significant benefit to currently funded high priority projects in need of further coordination and support in the areas specified. Under rare circumstances, this mechanism may be used to support development of a new resource to the broader scientific community of the NIAID. It is anticipated that the request for resource support through the R24 activity code will occur on an infrequent basis and only in circumstances where other mechanisms of support from the NIAID are not appropriate. The proposed resources should be relevant to the scientific areas of the NIAID mission including the biology, pathogenesis, and host response to microbes, including HIV; the mechanisms of normal immune function and immune dysfunction resulting in autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, allergy, asthma, and transplant rejection; and translational research to develop vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics to prevent and treat infectious, immune mediated, and allergic diseases 7. Violence Prevention Deadline(s): 05/12/2014 Violent Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Program (Project Safe Neighborhoods) Sponsor: Bureau of Justice Assistance/Department of Justice Website: opportunity.html?oppid= Program URL: Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is a nationwide network designed to create safer neighborhoods by reducing gang and gun violence and crime, and sustaining that reduction. The program's effectiveness is based on the cooperation of local, state, and federal agencies in a unified offensive led by the U.S. Attorney (USA) in each of the 94 federal judicial districts. The USA is responsible for establishing a collaborative PSN task force of federal, state, and local law enforcement and other community members to implement PSN initiatives within the district. Through the PSN task force, the USA will implement the five design features of PSNpartnerships; strategic planning, research integration, and

5 crime analysis; training; outreach; and accountabilityto address specific gun crime and gang violence, in the most violent neighborhoods.
