In addition, he successfully administered the projects on elimination of lymphatic filariasis. His other field works include public health programmes on Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya. Dr. MALOU VAN ZANTEN Research Coordinator, Molecular Clinical Sciences Institute (Dermatology Unit), St.George s, University of London With an interest in lymphoedema treatment, imaging, early diagnosis and prevention, she took her PhD in lymphology and is professionally registered in British Lymphology Association, Australasian Lymphology Association and International Society of Lymphology. She works as Senior Research Practitioner coordinating the MRC awarded genotyping and phenotyping in primary lymphedema and congenital vascular malformations project- a study linking medical lymphatic imaging, immunology, genetics and molecular biology.

He is associated with research activities of IAD for the past 15 years. Important publications include the book Manual on Experimental Design and Data Analysis for Coconut Researchers. He has 65 publications and authored six books. Dr. NANDINI. K. KUMAR Former Deputy Director General(ICMR), Vice President, Forum for Ethical Review Committees in India She retired from ICMR as Deputy Director General Senior Grade and is presently engaged in promoting bioethics education. She was and is closely involved in the formulation of the various national ethical guidelines on research involving humans, stem cell research and other related areas. She was member of international panel of President Obama s Commission for the Study of ethical issues and is member of several other national and international committees. As Dr. TMA Pai Endowment Chair for bioethics in Manipal University she was responsible for creating a Centre for Bioethics there. She was closely involved with the Government s Golden Triangle Partnership Scheme related to drug development in traditional systems of medicine. She has papers mainly in bioethics and traditional medicine and is reviewer for journals publishing in these areas. Dr. NARAYANA PRADEEP. P. Junior Consultant-Respiratory Medicine, District TB centre, Kasaragod, Kerala Dr. Narayana Pradeep P is an Intensivist and Pulmonologist with expertise in allergy, asthma, COPD and sleep disorders. Besides being a proficient doctor, Dr. Narayana is gifted with exceptional paperpresenting skills; something that has earned him several awards in various conferences.

7 Prof. PETER MORTIMER Professor of Dermatological Medicine, St.George s, University of London He has developed the emerging area of Lymphovascular Medicine. Current research is focused on breast cancer related lymphoedema, the genetic basis of primary lymphoedema, recurrent cellulitis and lipoedema. He has over 280 publications cited on PubMed. He is a member of the scientific & medical advisory committee for the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (USA). He is founder and Chief Medical Officer to the Lymphoedema Support Network, the UK patients' national charity. He is founder and Patron of the national body for health care professionals, the British Lymphology Society. Dr. RAJAGOPALA S Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, All Indi Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi An expert Ayurvedic Doctor, with priority working areas being Kaumarabhartiya (Pediatrics), immunity and recurrent illness like RURTI, Anemia, helminthic infections, thalassemia, nutritional deficiency conditions, general pediatric health problems, neurological and neuro-psychiatric abnormalities (MR, ASD, ADHD), other developmental anomalies. He has published over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals and over chapters in 25 books.

8 Dr. RAJENDRA PILANKATTA Associate Professor Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod He also holds the positions of Dean of School of Medicine and Public Health of Central Universiy of Kerala and visiting Associate Professor, DUKE, NUS Medical School, Singapore. He has over 25 publications in peer reviewed journals and done several presentations in conferences/seminars/symposiums both at National level and abroad. He is a member of Executive Council of Central University of Kerala. IAD is collaborating with his department to conduct cellular studies on lymphoedema. Dr. RIE ROSELYN YOTSU Department of Dermatology National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Tokyo, Japan A young dermatologist with deep interest in community dermatology and infectious diseases with skin symptoms, HIV-related skin conditions, mycobacterial diseases (tuberculosis, leprosy, Buruli ulcer, etc.), and wound care. She also provides education to the Master and PhD students of School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University. She is currently working on a multi-disciplinary intervention for novel diagnostics and management of neglected tropical diseases. She is the member of WHO working group on Buruli Ulcer and guideline committees for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Leprosy, Scabies, Buruli Ulcer. Her focus is on public health and also affiliated to School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University, Japan.

9 Dr. SACHIN KUMAR SHARMA Msc Phd, Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, Uttarakhand At present he is working as a Scientist C at Patanjali Research Foundation (a deemed to be university for yoga). He has worked as a Senior Research Fellow in a project entitled Effect of a yoga program on anthropometric and biochemical measures in obese persons. His main area of research is to study the therapeutic benefits of yoga. Prof. SAHAR MANSOUR Professor & consultant clinical geneticist, St.George's, University of London Prof Mansour is a consultant in clinical genetics, whose specialist interests include primary lymphoedema, dysmorphology, skeletal dysplasias, prenatal diagnosis and the genetics of haematological disorders. She leads the lymphovascular subdomain under the Cardiovascular GeCIP for the 100,000 Genomes Project.She runs the National clinic for Primary and Paediatric Lymphoedema with Prof Mortimer and Dr Gordon at St George s Hospital. Mr. SHASHIDHARA KOTIAN Biostatistician, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Manipal University A biostatistician, specialized in teaching Biostatistics to graduates and Post graduates of various Medical & Dental departments. He is involved in statistical analysis of the scientific work & research projects of

10 the faculties of the different departments with the help of statistical packages. Has published papers in more than 100 journals and has visited many colleges and institutions as a resource person. He is on the institutional ethics committees of IAD. Dr. SHAM MAILANKODY Assistant Attending Physician & Assistant Professor, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York A medical oncologist and hematologist specialized in the care of people with multiple myeloma and related plasma cell disorders. He is an Assistant Attending Physician and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is the principal investigator on multiple early phase and first in human clinical trials including cellular therapies for patients with multiple myeloma. He also has an interest in health policy as it relates to oncologic drug approvals and the cost of cancer care. His research has been published in major medical journal including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of American Medical Association, Journal of Clinical Oncology, British Medical Journal, JAMA Internal Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Blood, and JAMA Oncology. The work has been covered in lay press including in the New York Times, and Times of India. Dr. SURESH RAO Director, Chief, Department of Radiation Oncology, Mangalore Institute of Oncology, Mangalore An expert in external-beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy. He developed his reputation for clinical excellence at various premier cancer centers of Europe and USA. He has the unique distinction of starting three radiation oncology centers in the world. He is one of the few radiation oncologists in India to have specialized in stereotactic ablative radiation therapy, a method that helps eliminate tumors that cannot be removed surgically with minimal side effects. He has succesfully treated patients with inoperable liver, brain, kidney and stomach cancer at MIO.

11 IAD s Mentor Prof. TERENCE RYAN Emeritus professor of dermatology, Green Templeton College, Oxford, As a well renowned Dermatologist who believes that a failing skin is a heavy burden, Prof. Terence J. Ryan has dedicated his life to research and treatment of skin diseases. His contribution to public health is immense and he aims to provide skin care for all. His belief, that modern medicine systems could be combined with traditional medicine systems, took him around the globe. He has been spreading his philosophies and coordinating with likeminded professionals to further the cause of dermatological healthcare. By encouraging and supporting new ideas he has been a progressive influence on many around the world. His work mainly targets the economically and socially backward classes who suffer from dermatological ailments. Professor Ryan is currently Professor Emeritus of Dermatology at the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University and Churchill Hospital in United Kingdom. He has been actively engaged with Oxford for more than four decades and has developed it as the leading Centre of Dermatology. He is the Honorary President of the International Society of Dermatology and Chairman of its Task Force for Community Dermatology, Professor Terence Ryan, and FRCP Our Mentor is member and Honorary President of the British Microcirculation Society and Director of the Global Initiatives for Traditional Systems (GIFTS). Prof. Ryan is an adviser to the St Francis Leprosy Guild, World Health Organization and the American Lymphoedema Framework Project. In addition, in the past he has been the President of World Congress for Microcirculation, Chairman of the International Foundation for Dermatology, Founder of the European Society for Repair and Regeneration and of the British Lymphoedema Interest Group, Head of LEPRA Research Department at Oxford, Chairman of the Medicine Board and Faculty of Medicine. This visionary had sparked the idea of a British Skin Care Nursing Group and the International Skin Care Nursing Group and initiated Community Dermatology in China. Management of Lymphoedema has been his major interest; he has worked extensively on leprosy, traditional medicine, wound healing and international nursing. Awards and honours have adorned the professor for his national and international achievements. The Archibald Gray Medal of the British Association of Dermatology, the quintessential Distinguished Services Award and the Castellani Medal of the International Society for

12 Dermatology December 2013 are only a few among them. He has over 620 publications to his credit in dermatology, international public health and in Lymphology. Dr. VAUGHAN KEELEY Consultant Physician, Department of Lymphoedema, Royal Derby Hospital, Derby, UK A Consultant Physician who works full-time in Lymphoedema. He leads the lymphoedema service in Derby, Nottingham and Mansfield, UK. He chairs the British Lymphology Society / Lymphoedema Support Network consensus group which has produced guidelines on the management of cellulitis in lymphoedema. His research interests include the early detection and possible prevention of lymphoedema in Breast Cancer, quality of life in lymphoedema, oedema in multiple sclerosis and oedema in obesity. Dr. VIJAYA BASAVARAJ Professor of Pathology, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysore A well-known dermatopathologist of south India has experience of 16 years in the field and immunofluoresence of skin biopsies. She is continuously interacting with the dermatologists of JSS Medical college and conducting teaching sessions for dermatology postgraduate students. She is IAD s collaborator for dermatopathology analysis of biopsy samples. She reported rare lymphoedema

13 associated malignancies like Primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma etc in the biopsy samples of IAD s lymphoedema patients. Mr. WILLIAM REPICCI President & CEO, Lymphatic Education & Research Network, New York His mission is to fight lymphoedema and lymphatic diseases through education, research and advocacy. His career has focused on executive positions associated with social change, from running organizations for the developmentally disabled and the deaf, to producing issue-oriented plays during his many years in the theatre and publishing worlds. From writing the US Senate bill that established World Lymphedema Day, to securing Lymphoedema activist actor Kathy Bates as LE&RN's spokesperson, he has focused his six years at LE&RN on deconstructing the obstacles to lymphoedema awareness and building a campaign to make it a global mission.
