3 MEETING DESCRIPTION Statement of Need Physicians and cardiac care associates are required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest clinical developments in the practice of cardiology to improve patient outcomes. The Ohio Chapter-ACC Annual Meeting will include education that provides needs-based learning covering a thorough overview of pregnant women and heart disease, LVADS, surgery and non-surgical options, quality indicators, arrhythmias and pulmonary hypertension. Overall Goal Increase aptitude about quality indicators and improve competence of proficiency in clinical decision-making to bring about quality patient care. Learner Objectives: Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: Decrease maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity in pregnant women with pre-existing heart disease by improving diagnosis, management and appropriate counseling. Reduce complications of non-cardiac surgery by reviewing evidence-based guidelines. Discuss ways to provide patients with heart failure with appropriate referrals for LVADS. Analyze how to provide patients with pulmonary hypertension with appropriate diagnosis and optimal management. Improve morbidity and mortality by appropriate use of cardiac robotic surgery. Recognize and differentiate between benign vs. malignant forms of ventricular arrhythmias and to understand when non-icd therapy is appropriate and even preferred in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia in order to improve outcomes and prevent sudden death. Target Audience Adult Cardiologists, Pediatric Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Cardiology Fellows-in- Training The entire cardiac care team including but not limited to: Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists Disclosure & COI Resolution Policy ACCF/Chapter committee members, faculty, staff and other individuals who are in a position to control the content of this activity are required to disclose all real or apparent conflicts of interest. All relevant potential conflicts of interest that are identified are thoroughly vetted through a process that includes course directors and appropriate peer review by education committee chairs/members, for fair balance, scientific objectivity and validity, patient care and safety recommendations. Full disclosure will be published in the syllabus. Accreditation Physicians This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. The American College of Cardiology Foundation is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The ACCF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses American College of Cardiology Foundation is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. The ACCF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6 continuing education hours. Each attendee should only claim credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. While offering CME/CE credits noted above, this program is not intended to provide extensive training or certification in the field. All current Ohio fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 7:00-7:55 a.m. and 10:15-11:00 a.m. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. The abstracts will be judged in advance to select the top two abstracts for oral presentation. The rest of the accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and judged at the poster presentation on Saturday, October 18. To enter, please visit: Prizes Oral Presentation First and second place for the oral presentation will be awarded based on a combination of abstract content and oral presentation delivery as judged by a panel of cardiologists from various institutions. First place - $500; Second place - $300. Poster Presentation First place - $300; Second place - $200. Winners will be announced on Saturday, October 18, at the end of the meeting. Hotel Reimbursement For those fellows residing outside of the Columbus area, one night s hotel room and tax will be reimbursed. Call to make your room reservation.
