2 2016 ANNUAL MEETING GRAND GENEVA RESORT & SPA INVITATION TO ATTEND FROM OUR PRESIDENT The WSA Annual Meeting aims to provide its attendees updates on new developments and controversial issues in anesthesia, as well as the opportunity to practice skills and earn CME credits. The theme of this year s meeting is Practice Management and Ambulatory Anesthesiology. Lana Volz, MD and Michael Trawicki, MD, this year s Program Co-Chairs, have invited several regional and national speakers to discuss these topics. Highlights of this year s schedule include an expert panel session on ambulatory practice management and a question and answer session on Anesthesiologist Assistants (AA s). We will offer workshops focused on ultrasound-guided outpatient regional anesthesia. New this year, we will offer problem-based learning discussions. Speakers will present on a wide range of lecture topics and offer problem-based learning discussions. Residents from the State s two anesthesiology teaching programs will present at the ever popular Best of MARC (Midwest Anesthesiology Residents Conference) session. There will be an opportunity to enjoy an evening with friends and colleagues during our sunset lake cruise. Additionally, we are honored to have Daniel J. Cole, MD, current President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), give a comprehensive update on the ASA itself and legislative issues our specialty is facing on a federal level. This year s Annual Meeting promises to be very exciting and I am looking forward to welcoming you at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Please join us. Joshua J. Sebranek, MD President, WSA GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: After participating in this activity, the attendee will be able to: List accreditation standards for ambulatory surgery centers and manage risk in ambulatory anesthesia. Formulate patient selection criteria to decrease morbidity and mortality rates for office-based anesthesia. Manage complex cardiac, pediatric, chronic pain, and obese patients in an ambulatory setting based on current evidence-based medicine. Describe the role of Anesthesiologist Assistant in the anesthesia care team model. Counsel patients on the perioperative management of pacemakers, insulin pumps, nerve stimulators, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and anticoagulants. Employ low-flow anesthesia and reduce waste to make anesthesia practice more cost-efficient. Identify new bundled payment structure and utilize value-based modifiers to maximize reimbursement. Use ultrasound guidance to demonstrate the anatomy of commonly preformed upper extremity, lower extremity, truncal, and neuraxial blocks.
