Date of specification approval: May 0 A- Basic Information Title: Code: MPPhSMM Teachin Hours:/week Lecture:h/w Tutorial:h/w PBL Practical: h/w Total:h/w B- Professional Information Overall aims of course To enable the student to recognize and assess the severity of common disorders in neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, rheumatology, orthopedics and geriatric medicine both in hospital and community settings and know their basic multidisciplinary management.
2 Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs) a- Knowledge and understanding: a.-recognize the common diseases seen in neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, rheumatology and orthopedics. a.-explain the natural history of degenerative neurological disorders. a.- Express the natural history and management of the major psychoses. a.-define common clinical conditions which cause raised intracranial pressure and their management. a.-identify the significance of metabolic bone disease. a.-discuss the diagnosis, investigation and management of patients with joint disease. a.-describe challenge presented by patients with multisystem disease. a.8-explain provisions which can be made to support patients with handicaps in the community. a.-express an understanding of multiprofessional team work. a.0-review approach the management of major trauma and have an understanding of the processes of rehabilitation. b- Intellectual skills b- Analyze the causes of falls in the elderly. b- Classify brain tumors and bone tumors. b- Differentiate those signs and symptoms which demand emergency treatment from those do not. b- Distinguish the pathophysiological processes which produce common symptoms and physical signs e.g. dizziness, epilepsy, and swollen joints. b- Plan the diagnosis, investigation and management of patients with joint disease. b- Evaluate the interaction between psychological and physical illness in patients and the effect of such illness on their carers. c- Professional and practical skills c-assess conscious level. c-examine mental state. c-evaluation of cognitive function. c-assess suicide risk. c-apply neurological examination.
