1 Course Directors Martin J. Abrahamson, MD, FACP Associate Professor of Medicine Director, Division of Continuing Education Dr. Abrahamson is Associate Professor of Medicine at, Director of the Division of Continuing Medical Education in the Department of Medicine and an active faculty member of the Endocrine Division, Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his medical degree from University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa, and completed his internship, residency and clinical fellowship in internal medicine and endocrinology at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, where he was a research fellow before joining the faculty of medicine at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. Dr. Abrahamson was joint head of the Endocrine Unit in Cape Town before taking up a faculty appointment at and Beth Israel Hospital in He joined the faculty at Joslin Diabetes Center in 1998 where he held positions as Chief of Adult Diabetes, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs until While at Joslin Diabetes Center, Dr. Abrahamson led the reorganization of the Adult Diabetes Section into multidisciplinary teams comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse educators, nutritionists, and exercise physiologists and spearheaded pathways of care for patients referred to Joslin (JoslinCare). He has co-authored guidelines for the pharmacological and perioperative management of patients with diabetes and management of hyperglycemic emergencies, and authored more than 80 papers, review articles and chapters related to diabetes. Dr. Abrahamson s research interests include the management of patients with diabetes, and use of technology to improve diabetes care and outcomes. Dr. Abrahamson is board certified in internal medicine and in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, and is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of South Africa. He has been cited regularly in Boston Magazine as one of Boston s top doctors, and has delivered numerous invited lectures nationally and internationally on the management of diabetes. In 2010 he was the recipient of the Samuel Eichold II Memorial Award for contributions to Diabetes from the American College of Physicians.

Ariyabuddhiphongs, MD Assistant Professor of Medicine Medical Director Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization (BIDCO) Kim serves as medical director of Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization (BIDCO), the valuebased physician and hospital network and ACO (Accountable Care Organization) where she engages physicians and hospitals by leading initiatives to improve quality and manage cost. BIDCO s physician members include 600 primary care physicians, 2,000 specialists, and 7 acute care hospitals. Kim collaborates with primary care physicians, practice leadership, specialists, and hospital leadership to ensure success in value-based payment models. Kim practices Internal Medicine at Healthcare Associates, the academic hospital-based primary care practice of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her clinical focus is on the primary care of women. She is the former medical director of HCA where she led the practice in practice transformation, redesign, and transition to a patient-centered medical home. HCA achieved Level III NCQA recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. She is Assistant Professor of Medicine at. He co-directs the Division of Continuing Education in the Department of Medicine at and also serves as a Marshall Wolf Master Clinician Educator in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women s Hospital. For 12 years he led the most robust academic Continuing Medical Education enterprise in the world, reaching out to 80,000 clinicians in 150 countries each year. Dr. Chopra is also editor-inchief of the hepatology section of Up-to-date, an online resource used by more than 1.2 million physicians in 195 Countries for clinical decision-making at point of care. Blumgart Professor of Medicine at and Physician and Chief and Chair of the Department of Medicine at in Boston. He has made important contributions to our understanding of how the kidney helps control body chemistry, and has led several successful national initiatives in medical education. 4 Faculty Carlos A. David, MD Associate Professor of Neurosurgery Tufts University School of Medicine Director, Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Dr. Carlos A. David is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and Director of Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, in Burlington, Massachusetts. He also serves as Co-director of the neuroscience ICU and associate program director for the Tufts-NEMC Neurological residency training program. Dr. David graduated with a major in Biochemistry from the University of Miami in He completed medical school AOA from the University of Miami School of Medicine in He completed his internship and neurosurgical residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and an 18 month clinical fellowship in Cerebrovascular and Skull Base at the Barrow Neurological Institute from 1996 through 1997 under Dr. Robert Spetzler. He joined the neurosurgery department at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Dr. David specializes in the surgical treatment of cerebrovascular disorders of the brain and spinal cord and skull base tumors. He has particular interest in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms and cerebral bypass surgery, as well as tumors of the lateral skull base and jugular foramen. Dr. David s research focuses on the morphological differences between ruptured and unruptured aneurysms, 3D modeling of AVM s, and evaluation of the efficacy and cognitive effects of cerebral bypass surgery for ischemic occlusive disease. Dr. David also has a strong interest in education and teaching methods for both residents and medical students. Dr. David is past Vice Chair of the Cerebrovascular Section and member of the executive board for the North American Skull base Society. He is also an active member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Julia H. Lindenberg, MD Instructor in Medicine Attending Physician Assistant Medical Director, Healthcare Associates jlindenb@bidmc.harvard.edu Dr. Julia Lindenberg graduated from Mt. Sinai Medical School and completed her residency in primary care internal medicine at in Boston. Since that time, Dr. Lindenberg has been a primary care physician at Healthcare Associates (HCA) at BIDMC in Boston, where she now also serves as Assistant Medical Director. Dr. Lindenberg has long been interested in addiction medicine as well as chronic pain and has taught broadly on these subjects. Since 2016, she has been a member of the hospital-wide Opioid Care Committee. In , she was a Linde Fellow in the Linde Family Fellowship in Primary Care Leadership. For her fellowship project, Dr. Lindenberg successfully developed and opened the Healthcare Associates Office Based Opioid Treatment Clinic.

McKee, MD Assistant Professor Tufts University School of Medicine Division Chief, Radiation Oncology Co-Director, Rescue Life CT Lung Screening Program Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Partner Radiation Oncology Associates, PA Dr. Andrea McKee is a partner at Radiation Oncology Associates, PA and currently serves as Chief of the Division of Radiation Oncology at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) Sophia Gordon Cancer Center in Burlington, MA. She received her medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed her residency in radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where she served as chief resident. In early 2012, Dr. McKee and a team of allied health professionals at LHMC initiated the Rescue Lung, Rescue Life community benefit CT lung screening program to save lives and open screening access to those at high-risk for lung cancer regardless of financial means. Dr. McKee has coauthored numerous seminal peer-reviewed publications on the design, implementation and management of clinical CT lung screening. Dr. McKee is actively involved on a local and national level in preventative health issues focusing on patient-centered care, patient advocacy, and patient empowerment. Dr. McKee is a member of several New England based patient advisory councils and currently serves as a member of the Massachusetts State Cancer Control Steering Committee, Co-Chair of the State Lung Cancer Subgroup, and as Advisory Board Member to the Lung Cancer Alliance and the American Lung Association. She has collaborated with lung cancer advocacy and occupation risk groups, including the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, and the Vietnam Veterans of America to bring about the goals of saving lives of those at high-risk for lung cancer. Jacalyn M. Rosenblatt, MD Associate Professor of Medicine Medical Director, Cellular Immunotherapy Lab Deputy Director, Immunotherapy Institute Leader, Multiple Myeloma Program Dr. Jacalyn Rosenblatt received her MD at McGill University School of Medicine in She completed her internal medicine residency training at McGill University Health Center and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at. Dr. Rosenblatt joined the attending staff of Hematology/Oncology at in 2003, and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at. Dr. Rosenblatt`s research has focused in a translational research program for immunotherapy for hematological malignancies.

Rosenblatt, MD (contnued) She leads the multiple myeloma program at BIDMC, is co-director of the cancer vaccine and cellular immunotherapy program, and is medical director of the Cellular Immunotherapy Cell Manipulation Facility at BIDMC. Richard M. Schwartzstein, MD Ellen and Melvin Gordon Professor of Medicine Faculty Associate Dean for Medical Education Executive Director, Carl J. Shapiro Institute for Education and Research Vice President for Education Associate Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Richard M. Schwartzstein, MD, Professor of Medicine and Medical Education at Harvard Medical School, is Associate Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at BIDMC where he directs one of only two national centers for the study and treatment of dyspnea (shortness of breath). After earning his BA in politics from Princeton, Dr. Schwartzstein received his MD degree from Harvard, followed by clinical training in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital and in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Brigham and Women s Hospital. Dr. Schwartzstein has been an active clinical educator and researcher since he came to the HMS faculty over 20 years ago. He completed the Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education, for which he was named the Kay Senior Fellow, and developed a program in clinical education for the BIDMC s Department of Medicine that employs a core faculty teaching model. He is course director of Integrated Human Physiology in the first year New Pathway curriculum, and he developed the Principal Clinical Experience program at BIDMC for third-year students. Educational leadership roles include serving as the Executive Director of the Shapiro Institute for Education and Research and Vice President for Education at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center since 2004, and as the co-chair of the Year 1 Fundamentals of Medicine Committee. He is the named Director of the HMS Academy for Teaching Excellence and Educational Innovation in 2009 and in this position holds the Ellen and Melvin Gordon Chair for Medical Education. In addition to many awards and honors for his teaching at HMS and BIDMC, he has received prestigious national teaching awards, including the Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teaching Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Schwartzstein, along with Rabkin Fellowship graduate Dr. Michael Parker, co-authored a textbook of respiratory physiology, which received the 2006 Frank Netter Award for Special Contributions to Medical Education; two additional books in this series (cardiovascular and renal physiology), for which Dr. Schwartzstein is the editor, have also been published. Drs. Schwartzstein and Parker served as series editors for Interactive Physiology Grand Rounds for Chest, the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Schwartzstein is on the editorial board of the journal Chest and on the Perspectives Advisory Committee for the New England Journal of Medicine.
